You will never start over and rationalize water like that for ag. And it's an easy and popular target for lots of people who are disconnected to it. Residential use is where the waste is.
I have a hard time complaining about agriculture, which makes food, when everyone is mad about how much food costs, and suggesting we increase the cost of their inputs, even though in some places they are wildly subsidized like the southern sq valley.
10% of California's electricity goes to pumping water around. Or that was the figure not too long ago. And it's being pumped all over, not just to ag.
The reality is, the most wasteful users of water are residential, where a lot is used to ornamental things like lawns.
There's a lot to worry about with AI, but data centers? Now? No one cared when they were being built out for AWS to host 7 gazillion Wordpress pages.
1. It's a Pyrrhic victory at best, read it. In reality, 4chan won even though they technically "lost" their argument. They aren't enforced up. That's the win.
2. It's not really obiter dicta because it's a district court order it's not something you cite, really as binding precedent. But if you read between the lines, the court is only dismissing Ofcom because it is part of a sovereign, which means it cannot maintain it's other position. The judge was making it clear he thought Ofcom needed to stop. The ruling is addressed to the parties not really to a future court. If I were Ofcom's lawyer, I wouldn't be celebrating this.
American double standards have nothing to do with this case and it's just a sort of throw in everyone seems to need to mention here. So what? Are they good or bad? If you think they're bad to extend jurisdiction, then take the win.
Long arm jurisdiction is the opposite of what happened here. That's where you pull people into US courts that might not be US citizens for things that happened not in the US. Somehow that implies that foreign companies should be able to reach into the US and bug people in the US not doing anything in their own country? Oh, but USA bad so you scored that point.
I think you're just seeing Lincoln's hat in the clouds.
Everyone on HN apparently thinks they have a law degree.
Are you American? Have you been to a Home Depot on Saturday?

Name one discovery ever that didn't depend on someone else's work.
Come on this is all just pure copium from people who swallowed this hook line and sinker.
The worst thing anyone mustered about this is it was a breach of the cordial way mathematicians treat each other.
OpenAI solved Navier Stokes and that’s all anyone will remember about this no matter how mad people are about it and no matter how much they’re coping that they “stole” it.
Newsflash: team Anthropic was using AI too full of people’s “stolen” content.
I didn’t say it did, I said the UN is not a democratic body. He said the world decided. What is your problem?
As alleged by the team with the Anthropic employee.
It’s just a coincidence the other team had an Anthropoc employee on it, I’m sure.
If that’s something you have time to be annoyed by you live a blessed life.
AI derangement syndrome is amazing.
The researchers were also using AI so we're really just arguing over how much AI is allowed. But somehow a lean-verified proof that came first doesn't count because reasons.
If you have been involved in academia in any way, you know this happens all the time because the field is nearing a breakthrough, not a single person.
"The world" is not represented by the UN General Assembly. Did you vote for your representative?
80% of the human population lives in the northern hemisphere, but closer to the equator.
Singularity and inflection point are incompatible mathematically and in the plain sense, it really is focused on a particular moment and always has been, hence the term.
And it's definitely supposed to imply some kind of historical discontinuity not a change in convexity.
I posted here a while ago when his bubble prediction lapsed and plenty of his fans were here. Telling me how I was wrong and the Q2 reports weren't complete yet because it was still early July and blah blah
That's because it's really just not comparably impairing compared to alcohol and uppers.
On the other hand, the cardiovascular health effects, especially at the really high doses with high availability weren't predicted but are still a problem.
None of which changes the fact that putting people in jail for this was dumb and we shouldn't go back.
Claude in particular seems to try and use its internal thesaurus but not exactly align the senses. It constantly uses "address" for place or location and "grammar" for structure, meaning, etc.
This is kind of a nitpick, but it seems like with prose writing there are still some things to learn.
Notable both for the launching of a thousand ships and being so short yet so impactful. Also causes one to reflect on the power of OR.

51 tries to get the stay puff Marshmallow man which is what I think a lot of men of a certain age will think of when told to thing of something (or not). I loled.
I don't know anything about this topic and I'm not Canadian, but this has to be the most narrative destroying thing I've seen in a while.
the cases where its useful, it's in vectorized instruction sets, etc.
For the vast majority of people the problem was their first exposure to LED bulbs were in harsh temperatures and they wrote them off. The lightbulb wars aren't new. It's an evergreen political football.
If you strongly prefer incandescent that's fine but it doesn't take the 5-7 years the author suggests to recoup your investment. It might, or it might not. Where your curve lands depends, but they do in fact use a lot less energy.
5700 is a terrible temperature for lighting unless that matches the daylight. Soft white and even reddish is much better at night. Presumably, most artificial light it used at night. 2700 is more like it.
My LED lightbulbs change temperature based on the time of day and are dull red at night so you both don't wake up and you don't stub your toe. Show me a non-LED that can do that.
This is the kind of ad that may be opportunistic but sort of speaks for itself: they're not going to make excuses. I've been happy with Tailscale for years and this is part of why.
We also don't have 60,000 people breaking down fences to escape. They just .... get in their cars and drive to other states.
