I'm proficient in and have written production code that services millions of users in NodeJS, React/NextJS, Go, MySql, PostgreSQL, AWS. Strong preference for Typescript over Javascript. I used to write a lot of Python and Ruby as well. I've also architected and managed infrastructure using Terraform & k8s.
Available up to 3 full days per week and could go to 5 days a week for the right project.
I'm looking for individual contributor work that I can enjoy and open to very competitive rates for non soul crushing projects.
Reach out if you are looking for someone senior who can step anywhere into the stack and make a quick impact.

Look into Proxmox(https://www.proxmox.com/) for setting up your own ec2 like VM platform. This makes it pretty easy to experiment with setting up and running different services on the same box in an isolated way. Practice things like setting up a VM with a GPU passthrough and then running gpu enabled docker containers on the VM.
Also look into getting a Hetzner server and setting up site to site Wireguard.
FWIW you don't really need to buy a mini pc. You will learn more by doing a build. The great thing about doing something like this is that you can get old data center parts for cheap. Ex: pickup a server motherboard (maybe a SUPERMICRO X9DRI-F), CPUs, and RAM on ebay for < $300. Then put everything into a used server case with a new PSU and you can do everything for $500 or $600. This setup will have more resources then any off the shelf thing you can buy.

Develop against large language models without the big bill. This application serves as a reverse proxy with caching capabilities, specifically tailored for language model API requests. Built with Golang, it facilitates interactions with models hosted on platforms like OpenAI by caching responses and minimizing redundant external API calls. The goal is to allow for you to develop against llm api's...

Is "Keeping Up with the Joneses" a bad thing?
Ask HN: Is anyone else concerned about OpenAI and safety?
Given all that is going on (battling factions, loose governance, general drama) is anyone else concerned with OpenAI’s ability to develop AI safely?
The RefinedWeb / Falcon model has proven this is not true.
Show HN: This weekend I built a GitHub GPT-4 coding bot

I’m hoping to open source it this week once the code is cleaner. I’m just really excited to share the progress. The workflow is just like the workflow we know and love. Open an issue on a repo and communicate with the GPT-4 via issue comments to design a solution to a problem. Then you approve the design. The AI writes the code and submits a pull request based on the discussion.
No two companies are the same. Take advice (or insight) with a grain of salt.
I know with kids/marriage/etc this can be hard to do but I (someone in a similar situation) find that an hour of exercise every day makes all the difference in the world.
The great thing about software is that you don’t need permission (a job) to make impact and to build skills.
Build something or contribute to open source.
If I were staring my career over and had trouble getting a software job I would get any job I could to sustain life -ex busing tables. Then I would spend all of my nights and weekends working on open source or building things publicly.
If you spend the next year doing open source contributions for 30+ hours a week I can pretty much guarantee that you will have a job.
It will be hard sure. But this is the way.
Develop skills and the jobs will come.
