Re:Westinghouse sees a tech disrupter in its eVinci microreactor on Thursday November 24, 2022 @01:28PM (#33734657)
In Belgium we're at €0,50/kwh We're ordering 36 panels and 10kw battery tomorrow.

The only sad thing is that we can't utlize the battery when we lose netpower. Huawei has an addition, but it only gives an outlet on the battery. I wanted inline, like my ups.

True, but how long will the rest of the world accept the USD as universal currency. When they don't the US can't keep printing, so the US will do everything to keep its current position. The 'switch' will be the problem of our generation.
It's happening all over the western world. 50 years ago everything of value happened in the west. Currently there are alot of block on the economy and they only grow.

- people work less hours - education is slipping - lots of imports because we don't have it anymore (outsourced because of lack of cheap labour or environment laws) ...

Re:Indian ISPs: We already give govt full access to web traffic on Thursday November 10, 2022 @05:10AM (#33544465)
Don't all ISPs do this? They can be stubborn and lose connecting with the rest of the net.

The residential solar which is immediately used by the house, is it counted in this table?
Re:SimulaVR Has Been Subpoenaed by Meta Platforms, Inc on Thursday October 06, 2022 @02:32PM (#33112129)
Ordered a founders edition many months ago. I hope to use it one day and add it to my nixos config. If not it'll help the open source community. One thing is certain, the VR/AR I want to use won't come from big tech.
Re:Ask HN: Companies of one, what is your tech stack? on Monday September 26, 2022 @03:58PM (#32987557)
I started 3 days ago It's been hard.

At first I had validation on an email input field after a day all text is put through.. I'll have to look into it next week.

The validation lines are still in de code but don't seem to work. It's probably something stupid.

For now the website is live. I used a single db table for everything. Later I'll do it the proper way. I couldn't find an easy example how to add more complex systems.

I used gen.auth and this comes with multiple tables. I guess there is a way to gen it in ecto. But is there also a gen for a basic liveview crud, which can be changed. This way new users start with something, otherwise you start from a void.

I'm not going petal yet. I'll first try without A. I'll probably have to use it in a month when I have to integrate a js library(Html5-QRCode).

Re:Google suspended our domain out of the blue – lyearn[.]com on Sunday September 11, 2022 @06:32AM (#32798473)
Why would you use google for your domains?

Domains are important(most of the time), I use a registrar which specializes in it. If a company does less than 50% of their revenue in domains, don't use it..

Re:DIY Home Router with NixOS on Sunday August 07, 2022 @02:48AM (#32374434)

Re:Ask HN: ZFS native encryption vs LUKS on Thursday August 04, 2022 @01:48PM (#32346004)
That's what I'm doing

Nixos with natively encrypted zfs mirror.

Next step is impermanence

Yes
Re:Element (Matrix) adds video/voice rooms on Thursday July 14, 2022 @10:55AM (#32096833)
Could we use matrix as identification for git issues, etc.? On self hosted git repos. Instead of github, gitlab, bitbucket.

Then you can communicate with all those self hosted repos without making accounts for every single one. And you could choose your software (gitea,gitlab,...)

Re:NGINX Proxy Manager on Monday May 23, 2022 @04:27PM (#31484418)
No, I'd like to know why he called it 'less reliable'. He must have used it on nix(linux) or nix(darwin) or NixOS..
Re:NGINX Proxy Manager on Monday May 23, 2022 @03:09PM (#31483617)
How was the Nix experience? Did you try just nix or also NixOS?
Re:Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen3 Review – with Linux on Monday May 02, 2022 @08:14AM (#31234107)
I'd love to buy a new Thinkpad But it doesn't exist.

Thick design: 15 inch 4k, backlit full keyboard, replacable big battery, replacable ECC ram, gpu or igpu but no Nvidia(swaywm on nixos), 2 ssds (zfs mirror), ports: rj45, usb-A and usb-c at all sides(left/back/right), hdmi

No need for webcam, fingerprintreader nor touchpad(trackpoint with 3 buttons is king)

And yes, it can be thick/heavy. If I need it light. I'll use a smartphone...

Privacy hardware buttons would be a bonus, as is open firmware.

Why the need to fork NixOS? Why not contribute?
Re:Operating systems battle: OpenBSD vs. NixOS on Tuesday April 19, 2022 @02:57PM (#31087348)
Why a fork and not a configuration?
