From his reply tweet:

N-body simulation made with Python, parallelized with numba, and animated with matplotlib.

N=100.000. Computation time around 5h for 2.000 steps. Around 1s of compute time per step. Collisions are handled with a softening length.

A truly great HN comment. An example of why it’s still worthwhile to be here.

Episode 823: Planet Monet

> The art market is going nuts. People are spending record amounts of money of paintings like Leonardo da Vinci's Salvator Mundi. But not everyone is rushing home to hang their new artwork up on their walls. A lot of buyers are storing their art in vast warehouses near airports. They're called, "freeports."

> Freeports exist between countries, a sort of no man's land, which means you can store your artwork there as long as you want, without having to pay any taxes on it.

> Where are these freeports? How do they work, and are they even legal? Today on the show, we try to find out.

You must be fun at parties.
Re:Men Are Waiting to Share Some Feelings (2018) on Saturday September 28, 2019 @09:32AM (#21100189)
There are many problems with your argument, but I’d like to focus on the fact that your understanding of the definition of The Patriarchy is wrong.

From Wikipedia[0]:

> Patriarchy is a social system in which men hold primary power and predominate in roles of political leadership, moral authority, social privilege and control of property.

How many female presidents have we had here in the USA? What percentage of Fortune 500 CEOs are women?

Re:Men Are Waiting to Share Some Feelings (2018) on Saturday September 28, 2019 @09:22AM (#21100146)
It seems to me that your comment being downvoted is a perfect illustration of the patriarchy.
Re:Ask HN: I don't enjoy being a CTO. Now what? on Monday June 13, 2016 @09:13AM (#11893506)
OP not enjoying the CTO role doesn't mean he/she should waste company resources for their own amusement.

Re:My Biggest Regret as a Programmer on Wednesday April 06, 2016 @08:23AM (#11438255)
It might help the HN crowd if you say it's a sarcastic poem about survivorship bias ;)
Re:The Drugging Of The American Boy on Thursday March 27, 2014 @11:31PM (#7485188)
This sounds an awful lot like imposter syndrome, but with your own health instead of programming ability.

See a doctor. Be honest. Let them do their job and then trust their diagnosis.

The bootstrapped.fm link makes me wonder what other wonderful sites the HN population visits, but that I have no clue about.
Re:To Elon Musk and the Model S: Congratulations on Saturday June 30, 2012 @11:42AM (#4181894)
I just wanted to include the last line of the interview that you left off, as I think it's actually pretty important:

Wired.com: So what have you learned so far? Musk: Patience is a virtue, and I'm learning patience. It's a tough lesson.

Re:What Makes Great Programmers Different? on Wednesday June 06, 2012 @04:43PM (#4076119)
Your last line reminded me of The Tao of Programming: http://www.canonical.org/~kragen/tao-of-programming.html

This is very high praise.

They were putting out ads against Romney at the beginning of the Republican nominee campaign.
Re:Space Station grabs SpaceX Dragon ship on Friday May 25, 2012 @11:29AM (#4023881)
that's easy: whichever company can shoot down all other companies ships, and still manage to land and mine said asteroids, wins.

the name of this game? "king of the asteroid"

"This sim went really well, let's do this for real."

Excellent to see astronauts with a refined sense of humor as well.

Absolutely, but he worked methodically when he was younger to get both himself and his family into the USA.
You're getting dangerously close to describing continuations. And I think it's important to remember that just because a programming language doesn't give you access to a data structure, it doesn't mean it's not using it under the covers. The call stack is a data structure in all programming languages, only a few provide you with easy access to it.
Applying De Morgan's laws to fix how to determine if you're in or not then yields: say the wrong thing AND do the wrong thing

I would also like to point out that an ability of your parent poster clearly stood out, that of making themselves memorable. Hiring is a multivariate problem, focusing on just one of those variables could be the most broken solution within the space.

Jobs created the Mac, and the iPhone. I just recently went back and re-watched the original iPhone keynote, and I believe this is very much a theme of what he was saying on stage.

Making something new, at world class quality, is incredibly difficult.

Re:Steve Jobs and the Purpose of the Corporation on Monday October 24, 2011 @09:02AM (#3149412)
In theory, theory and practice are the same.
Re:Signs that you are a bad programmer on Thursday October 20, 2011 @10:29AM (#3134966)
And the ability to save all of that into a variable so that you can pass it around to other parts of your program means that your programming language supports Continuations.
Re:Remember The Milk can sync with your iPhone calendar on Thursday October 20, 2011 @12:40AM (#3133471)
I upvoted because I completely agree.

But then I thought about it, and isn't this also an example of a hack in it's purest sense?

let's say an end user of your app is having a problem getting it to work. would you rather that end user be a developer, or someone that doesn't know anything about development?
Re:If this then that on Thursday September 08, 2011 @12:18AM (#2972613)
you _might_ want to see if you can hire the guy/girl, even if part time. just a thought, and all disclaimers apply.
Re:Android Tricorder Killed By CBS on Saturday September 03, 2011 @12:06PM (#2957504)
"Since I don't have legal weasels of my own, or the time to deal with this, that's it for Tricorder."

Why doesn't a fleet of open source lawyers exist? I mean, I know why it doesn't exist, but it seems like there could be a community of lawyers willing to help him out, or, at least, that one could be grown over the next few years.

Re:Poll: Do you use Google Reader on a daily basis? on Monday July 25, 2011 @11:02PM (#2805793)
isn't that HN?

and please don't downvote, I'm being serious.

Re:Everything You Know About Fitness is a Lie on Saturday March 05, 2011 @01:41AM (#2290979)
to be fair, the author lambasts health magazines in a gym's waiting room/lobby, while the article appears in one of those magazines.
