Re:Claude Status – Elevated errors for multiple models on Monday September 21, 2026 @10:19PM (#49796067)
When something happens regularly, is it really front page of HN worthy?
Why aren’t we raging at movie theaters? They’ve been putting ads before the content we actually paid to see for a long time now

I'm pretty biased these days, but I don't think the bean counters share that vision of the positive impact that AI could have on our working lives.

Appreciate the link!

Wasn't really the point of my post, but definitely something for me to think about. Appreciate you reading!

Oh snap, I remember that post!! (or I'm mistaking it with some other post that also linked to a Zine maker) -- do you happen to have Little Free Libraries in your neck of the woods? pretty good for distributing stuff like that
Re:I stopped drinking the AI Kool-Aid on Sunday September 20, 2026 @08:28PM (#49781617)
Well said :)
Re:I stopped drinking the AI Kool-Aid on Sunday September 20, 2026 @08:21PM (#49781582)
Thanks for the feedback! When I ran it through an LLM it had some similar feedback that I purposefully didn't action on ;)

TIL on the Flavor Aid. Appreciate you taking the team to read and respond!

Similar here in the states, but we've neutered it a bit to effectively describe the "One of us, one of us" scene from the movie Freaks
Re:I stopped drinking the AI Kool-Aid on Sunday September 20, 2026 @06:58PM (#49780999)
Let's say it was critical for the business, with no viable alternatives? I'm all for "find a way or make one" but there are times when you need to be more practical than dogmatic.

Would love to hear your thoughts

Very cool! Heck, need to force that hand just to help spread the word about the other zines! :)))

Appreciate the kind words, tyty
Re:I stopped drinking the AI Kool-Aid on Sunday September 20, 2026 @06:13PM (#49780628)
really? that's freakin' cool. what kind of topics??

I'm old, so I remember 'zines from the 80s and 90s :)

Re:I stopped drinking the AI Kool-Aid on Sunday September 20, 2026 @06:09PM (#49780587)
Yeah, that closeness of options makes it tough to really dig the heels in. Also, you can become a customer today, and have them fire their entire support staff and replace it with an agent tomorrow. Dwindling QC and CS isn't a new concern though, just need to make sure the space isn't owned by a single company
Re:I stopped drinking the AI Kool-Aid on Sunday September 20, 2026 @06:06PM (#49780568)
Totally get that. I think the fear there is that maybe this is the timeline where we just keep running out of those options.

I still favor a longer line with a human or two in the loop at the store rather than self checkout. Depending on the time of day, self checkout is the only options. Fortunately, there's usually problems and you still get a chance to connect with a human :)

RMS drew a line in the sand with how he interacts with closed-source systems. Starting to wonder if that's how extreme we need to be AI systems.

Re:I stopped drinking the AI Kool-Aid on Sunday September 20, 2026 @06:03PM (#49780540)
:wq indeed :)

it's been a wild ride, in a lot of ways I feel like I speed ran running my EQ into the ground, only to be reborn like a phoenix.

I've been told in the past to "think like an entrepreneur, not an engineer" and in a lot of ways I think that was bleeding into how I was approaching AI-usage.

I'm on your blog now, hoping you've posted your own musings so I can read them!

Re:I stopped drinking the AI Kool-Aid on Sunday September 20, 2026 @05:55PM (#49780495)
How would you approach this. You email a company that has something you want to license. An agent responds. Do you abandon your pursuits at that point and consider other options?

I'm humbled that somebody made it to the end. Doubly blessed because it's not every day you get to make 2 Keanu Reeves movie references in one post

Re:Ask HN: One-person SaaS apps that are profitable? on Friday April 19, 2019 @09:19PM (#19704276)
I'm the solo founder of Holiday API - https://holidayapi.com - a DaaS platform for holiday information.

The project was originally started in 2013 as an open source side project, while I running a network of niche social networks full-time (also quite profitable for a while), after serving as CTO of a daily deal company, that stemmed from my need for reliable holiday information without the overhead of actually maintaining said data on a regular basis.

A shift to a premium model was made in 2016 and the first month into being a premium service, it was profitable (sans my time ;) and has grown to ~$1500 MRR.

Ironically I started the project as a way to NOT have to maintain said data and now part of my day to day involves maintaining data accuracy... and sales outreach... and DevOps to improve... my own development efforts... and... and...

Recently received my YC rejection email for the upcoming batch (actually interviewed with another project with a partner a while back), but still hustlin'. Flying solo is great, but definitely can't get caught up in the echo chamber. Would highly recommend building a peer group of founders / other hackers & hustlers to meet / chat with regularly.

Re:Ask HN: What's your working day like? on Monday May 08, 2017 @01:53PM (#14293904)
Profession: Senior Software Developer - full time, in office - <50 employees

Also a husband / father and run some revenue generating side projects

[08:00ish] Wake up, piss, weigh myself, brush teeth then read

[09:00] Shower, get dressed, etc

[09:30] Drive into the office

[10:00] Get some coffee, plan my day and get to working (standing desk)

[11:15] Get up and walk around

[12:00] Lunch (catered in)

[12:30] Back to the grind (sitting down)

[15:00] Another walk

[17:30] If it's Wednesday, there's some Whiskey about now

[18:30] Hit the road

[19:00] Get home, dinner with the family, sometimes a quick board game

[20:30] Do some burpees then get to hacking on side projects

[23:00] Read

[00:00ish] Sleep

Weekends are dedicated to more family time

There are some weird price anomalies at other price points as well for hourly. In my previous posts Lightsail ended up being a fraction of a cent more than the others.

As for the 1GB vs 1000MB, I assume it's as another poster mentioned, 1024 vs 1000.

For things like the overview, I pull that stuff from the hosting companies pricing pages. I assume each company has good reasons for why they price and word things they way they do.

yeah, I was speaking more in the context of a out of the box solution like Linode's NodeBalancer and DigitalOcean's recent offering. Nothing stopping ya from spinning up a Lightsail instance and slapping varnish on it though :)
was a typo ... updating shortly :)
yeah, since been updated... remnant from a previous post.. i'm only human :)
Re:High-Memory Instances and $5 Linodes on Wednesday February 15, 2017 @11:21AM (#13653091)
Appreciate the link, I have a $5 review up as well now :)

Since my posts are straight benchmarks, I don't touch on the support side of things typically (mostly because I only have had support interaction with the companies I use).

That said, I've had exceptional support from both Linode and DigitalOcean over the years. Always responsive and friendly.

Interestingly enough though, yesterday my Linode went down due to a power outage in the Atlanta data center. I'm a huge fan of Linode, but something like a power outage at this stage in the game seems a bit like amateur hour.
