People die and kill for just a few square meters of land, you're delusional if you think the Russian nation will just let itself be destroyed without fighting back. Nominal GDP is not a good way to measure wealth, GDP PPP, industrial output and other stats are better. Russia is not a superpower but no one can deny that Russia is an industrial power. Your hate of Russia disgust me.

Firefox for Android & Yandex.Mail on Yandex.Store. Here you go three examples.
I learned programming with JRuby SL4A on my smartphone. I can't imagine anyone doing this today. Gingerbread is without a doubt my favorite Android version. You had so much freedom back then!

>The argument is essentially that China's economy doesn't function as a proper market economy.
Which is true. I really hope this happens, it's time for China to start playing by the rules of a real market economy or lose access to the global market. We should not tolerate China subsidizing their industry, at the expense of other industrial countries.

If anyone has where could I read more? In my imagination it would work like this. I upload some documents I need to print. I go to a convenience store where there is a printer. With my smartphone I scan a QR code on the printer, I print what I want to print, I pay over the Internet. I get going to where I am supposed to be. If the printer is occupied I go to the next convenience store a few...
So to be clear, "you would not be willing to sacrifice your own life, to save the elephants", yet you would kill the father, the brother, the son of someone, to save the elephants?
>That's why I'm proposing an immediate, violent solution, not one based on nonexistent cooperation, politics, or locals who care.
You surprise me, from the comments you made a few days back on the European refugee crisis, I though you were a peaceful person. Now your true nature is revealed. Would you be willing to sacrifice your own life, to save the elephants? Would you be willing to kill another human being yourself, to save the elephants? If your not willing, I don't even know how you come up with this ideas!

I myself like the Silicon Valley series way more than any of those two.
I miss Snow Leopard and I miss pre-iPhone Apple!
Great, another App we'll get bundled in our Android devices. (>_<) I don't think so Google!

Out of curiosity, why didn't you make a fork?
No!
Thank God we will always have BSD/Linux.

I don't think you can lump Russia and China together. China is truly "on lower moral/ethical grounds". I can't trust any country that has such pervasive censorship policy and such blatantly protectionist policies as China. Frankly I trust the Russian government as much as I trust the US government or as much as I trust my government (the Mexican government). I don't think I would feel safe living in China! I wouldn't even travel to China but that's just me.
For starters it's not very crowded on usernames, so I got to use my 'namelastname' as username, also I don't think I've seen any ads so far. Another aspect of the service I really like, is that it has less magic than Gmail. I always get email labeled wrong in Gmail. At first I tried to label them properly and expected Google to get them right over time, now I don't bother. I would definitely pay for this service if this was an option. To be fair Russia along with the US, France & Japan is one of my favorite countries, so I might be very biased.
Yandex.Mail is my favorite email provider and I would invite anyone reading this to give it a try.
It is insane how some people believe technology will fix everything. As you say, it will most likely be business as usual until industrial civilization collapses.
Around $50 USD in Amazon, like today. I just thought it was too much for the quantity of pages. But really, few programming books are as good as K&R. I still think the editorial is particularly greedy when it comes to this book. Still I don't recommend any C book, other than K&R.
>Complaints about book prices are silly. Take your career more seriously.
Not everyone is a professional developer in an advanced economy, I am neither. Some books I've bought, have costed me as high as 25% of my monthly income. Also I am not talking about Tanenbaum hardbacks, I have never bought a book that expensive.
https://www.gnu.org/software/gnu-c-manual/gnu-c-manual.htmlThis is my favorite C related documentation online. The first book on C I read was a PDF of K&R, I liked it. I used to think the paperback was way too expensive. Instead I bought C Primer Plus, never read it. Few books capture the gist of a language as well as K&R in as little space. Though Modern Perl and Programming in Lua also come to mind. If they ever make an updated version of K&R I would definitely buy it.

We hear a lot about Google, Apple, Microsoft & Facebook, since most people use one or more products from these companies. Yet we never hear about Visa & MasterCard, even though their use is equally widespread. After reading Wikipedia I got curious, so I am wondering if anyone on HN has ever worked at any of these two companies.
