Re:Transformers Create Shapes of the Universe on Tuesday October 01, 2024 @04:58PM (#41714088)
Haven't seen this train of thought discussed. Takes some interesting comments from Karpathy and others to argue that transformers can distill down things well beyond just text and images
This opens the door to many use cases for secure, privacy focused, and scaled asset transfers leveraging taproot, lightning network, and the existing bitcoin protocol. Very exciting news
Yeah no doubt about this. But its also important to remember we've been doing this non stop since 2008 minus a few months in 2018. So this is a multi president, both parties are involved in continuing this train.
Re:YC’s $500k Standard Deal on Monday January 10, 2022 @01:05PM (#29878840)
That seems to be the suggestion with MFN, it gets priced at the lowest term sheet so in this case the sale term sheet
Re:TSMC hikes chip prices up to 20% amid supply shortage on Thursday August 26, 2021 @03:17PM (#28319303)
I highly doubt the chip shortage a la increased chip demand from a company perspective has to do with gaming/mining GPU demand.

Much of the supply demand can be traced to increased car chip demand (Toyota cutting production by 40%) as well as general device chip demand across many sectors.

We should probably also find a way to tax US dollar usage with CO2 tax as the net energy usage here is quite high as well
Re:Bitcoin is not a Battery – it is a Sink on Sunday March 28, 2021 @01:52PM (#26612469)
Mining bitcoin is exactly what the author mentions a heat sink not a battery.

But mining bitcoin and capturing excess heat produces a provably scarce and globally accessible digital asset.

You are not transferring energy across time or space. Instead you are directly converting cheaply available energy (usually hydro) into monetary value that can be easily transferred through time and space.

Re:Bitcoin is not a Battery – it is a Sink on Sunday March 28, 2021 @01:35PM (#26612291)
Bitcoin is not a battery it is not a valid analogy. It’s more a store of value of the energy produced. It’s a monetary incentive to capture the cheapest (now mostly hydro, solar, wind potentially nuclear) wherever you can cheaply or safely find/capture it at the source (since energy transport is inefficient over long distances)
Re:Bitcoin is not a Battery – it is a Sink on Sunday March 28, 2021 @01:27PM (#26612222)
Bitcoin energy consumption is a brittle argument, our entire monetary system is backed by much more expensive energy usage. Energy usage for security is a trait of sound money.

What’s the point of sharing this on an article about his passing?

Re:Ad Boycott of Facebook Keeps Growing on Wednesday June 24, 2020 @11:04AM (#23628640)
Can you explain this a bit further, long tail which was better ROI
Building on this. If you have the risk tolerance. Just stating that you have to work remotely (if its legitimate) at-risk health, child care, family care I'm sure there can't be a ton of pushback on an individual level. Otherwise it might be a GREAT signal to leave a company who in the midst of a pandemic is irrational.
Zuck. Pathologically lies and moves the goalposts. But employees are essentially powerless in this.
Worth reading all chapters that are in here, but chapter 3 gets at the meat of where we're heading. We're at the end of a long credit cycle post WWII, dislocation of the dollar from the gold standard, to bretton woods, to now QE printing of money being loaned to the government by the fed.

Market reflects the cash flow available being printed by the FED to keep the markets up.

Re:Business Chat – A whole new way to talk to companies on Sunday April 19, 2020 @11:23AM (#22916501)
This is a primarily large company focused initiative. You’ll need to work with apples partner integration chat providers to build on it. It’s invite only at this point.

Donation to food banks seems to help the highest critical need people otherwise seeing funds that work with homeless shelters may be a good source to focus on as well.
Do you have a reference for this or is this just a major assumption
