Pretty common in lots of places - you get charged after n false-alarms and are required to fix your broken sensors or whatever is causing the issue.

Get a custom-made cloth or use a thin microfiber like a lens cleaning cloth and put it between the keyboard and screen. Whenever you close the computer. Keeps the smudges off and prevents key shaped wear marks in your display.

Aside: Nice site and concept/business. I have service from a local WISP and am quite happy with it.

It might be interesting to have a list/map of WISPs on your site!

Maybe a bicycle counts as a vehicle.

Yeah, lots of prior art for fan cars.

I wonder how the roadster got around any patents that McMurty might have.
I hadn't tried that question before. Gemini knew the answer.
Re:Reasons I didn't become an EMT, ranked on Sunday October 04, 2026 @01:30AM (#49950937)
Joining your local search and rescue/ mountain rescue/dive team/etc. Is an amazing way to have fun, learn. Lots of specialized skills, go places few others do, and help out your community.

Generally first aid/ CPR is the basic medical requirement, but they will teach you that. EMT or higher is absolutely useful though.

Through which process are they going to get food and housing?
There are so many other methods aside from lithium batteries for grid scale energy storage.

One of my favorites is pumped storage hydro.

Interesting project. I'm curious what the purpose is. (Having visited a number of sites with microwave antennas. (But there for VHF and UHF projects.)

How else are we going to support public infrastructure and society?
Re:Geothermal Heat Map of US Hot Springs on Thursday September 24, 2026 @04:40PM (#49836476)
Same here. I wouldn't go traipsing through the woods looking for a spring at a set of coordinates without first finding out who the landowner is and contacting them for permission. (If it's not public land.)
I'd go with an ancient boat anchor LaserJet but, otherwise, yep.
Years ago I was touring a POP in a small city. They were very proud to point out one fiber coming in one side of the building going South and another on the opposite side of the building going North.

AX, not to be confused with Ax the machine learning tool from Meta for optimizing experiments.

Sauropod Vertebra Picture of the Week - https://svpow.com - is one that shows up on Hacker News from time to time. (There's much more to it than the title might suggest.)
The Scientific 7-Minute workout is a great starting point.

"stack them up during a disassembly and then unstack them as I reassemble."

I love this! Automatically sequences the fasteners.

Another option is a piece of corrugated cardboard. Poke the screws into cardboard in the pattern they are in the device you're disassembling.

So nice!

My friend makes little shadowbox dioramas like this - such a neat atform.

Re:Show HN: Nikon F100 Film Camera Repair Notes on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @01:54PM (#49364848)
I have an F100 sitting in a box somewhere waiting for repair. At some point I snapped the finger off the ring around the lens mount which couples the lens aperture. Stupid thing is plastic and easy to snag or bump.
I bought the cheapest PTZ camera they have listed and, as you say the install was easy. The interface is useful and it does what it says on the tin.
