Payment is either broken or a scam. Unsure. It gives what looks like a stripe error. Payment processor is on a Somalian domain and the contact page links to a Nigerian twitter account. Payment company claims to be Belgian. Both this site and the payment site domains have private whois info. Very suspect.

Betting on black probably has a higher success rate than the average startup though.
I worked for the Watson group. It was largely a marketing play which did land with some enterprises but is ultimately a failure because the tech was not there.
Re:Slack is down for some users on Tuesday February 22, 2022 @11:55AM (#30430283)
I love slack. Slack search is terrible for me, but maybe it's the quality of data it has to search through.
Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (July 2021) on Thursday July 01, 2021 @12:26PM (#27700877)
Moveworks | Mountain View, CA | ONSITE or REMOTE (some positions)

We're instant help at work. An AI chatbot solution that integrates with the chat system a company already uses (slack, teams, gchat, etc) to provide help for IT, HR, Finance, and other questions and issues. We automatically resolve several types of IT tickets to free up support agents from mundane tasks.

We recently raised a $200m Series C at $2.1b valuation - https://www.moveworks.com/insights/moveworks-raises-200-mill.... We're going to be hiring a ton of people. Here are a few of the key positions.

* Engineers - Data Platform, DevOps, AI, ML, NLP, NLU, Security, SRE, Front-end, Full-stack (mostly python/go), Search Engines

* Client Facing - Customer Success Engineer, Customer Success Managers

* Data Science - Data Analysts, Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists

* People - HR, Recruiting

* Sales - Pre-sales Solutions Architects, Account Execs, Sales Dev Reps

* Product - Designers, Product Managers

We're considering remote for some roles and probably hiring for many positions that aren't even listed on the website yet. If you have any interest, apply and talk a recruiter about what you're looking for.

If you are curious you can reach out to me on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnathanward or email jward+hn [at] moveworks.ai or apply on our careers site https://www.moveworks.com/careers

It's really a great place to work. Checkout us out on Glassdoor https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Moveworks-Reviews-E1730936...

I'm not sure that IBM leadership really understands what direction they want to go. They seem to pivot all-in on a tech sector and then abandon it a few years later. Rinse and repeat. It was AI/Watson, then a cloud platform, now its "hybrid cloud" because they can't compete with the established cloud providers. What will be the all-in bet next week? I also have to mention their strategy of trying to cut their way to prosperity.
Re:What Happened to XPath? on Friday October 30, 2020 @01:12PM (#24944447)
I do a bunch of of XML/XSLT work still. I use XPATH 1.0 basically everyday. It's also awesome for web scraping. Overall, it's a great tool that doesn't get a ton of exposure.
Re:Evolving Reddit’s Workforce on Wednesday October 28, 2020 @10:34AM (#24919154)
> Living somewhere expensive (within your country) seems like a lifestyle choice like any other.

Right. I'm really looking to be able to drive a Tesla and vacation several times a year on remote tropical islands. Should my company pay me more for that choice?

Re:Evolving Reddit’s Workforce on Wednesday October 28, 2020 @10:24AM (#24919038)
This is great news. I wish worker pay was more based on the value they provide versus where they decide to live. If you're making $200k in the valley and you decide to move to Ohio, why are you suddenly worth less to the company? If everyone goes remote you no longer have to live in a high cost of living area. If you choose to that's on you.
Really? I had some decent success on FB early but not now. I also made a killing when MySpace launched it's terrible ad service.
> hey also ban you by default, assuming,

I think I had my account banned the last 3 times I created a new ad. None were against their policies. My account go reinstated each time but still.

Re:Dropbox Converts to Permanent WFH on Thursday October 15, 2020 @11:29AM (#24789617)
Not only will they save money on office space but many of these companies are requiring employees to take pay cuts if they move to a lower cost area. Like all the sudden your value to the company changes because you moved?
Re:Dropbox Converts to Permanent WFH on Thursday October 15, 2020 @11:27AM (#24789586)
> But if you're single, staying cooped up alone at home can be a disaster.

During COVID I would say this is more of a problem but in my 8 years of remote work I don't really miss the office at all. In normal times you can get out if you want to head to a coffee shop or something. We do video calls which seems to help some of the team members feel better about the situation. Having a commute was absolutely the most stressful thing for me.

I do most of my socializing outside of working hours. Being alone and remote doesn't seem to effect me but I'm also super introverted. I understand this may effect extroverts differently.

Re:Dropbox Converts to Permanent WFH on Thursday October 15, 2020 @11:23AM (#24789534)
> which is problematic for building teams and culture;

Why? I've been remote for about 8 years. I don't think I've had any problems building relationships. The only thing you miss from the office is the time spent screwing around with co-workers. I guess you could consider that "Team building".

Re:IBM is splitting itself into two public companies on Thursday October 08, 2020 @01:32PM (#24721527)
I think that's what they attempted to do with Watson and Watson Health, but it didn't take off the way they were hoping. It seems like they were early in the "AI" space.
Re:IBM is splitting itself into two public companies on Thursday October 08, 2020 @12:47PM (#24720955)
Their legal team is pretty good?
Re:IBM is splitting itself into two public companies on Thursday October 08, 2020 @12:45PM (#24720929)
Speaking as a former IBMer. I understand IBM wanting to be a player in the cloud space but I'm not sure they ever will be. Like who seriously uses IBM Cloud? I know some big corps probably accidentally get IBM cloud credits with their large IBM contracts but does anyone actually choose IBM in this space?
Re:Roof blows off new Tesla Model Y on Wednesday October 07, 2020 @03:19PM (#24711647)
They don't. Tesla has stores that are company owned. Dealerships are a franchise system from what I understand.
Re:Leaving Mozilla on Wednesday October 07, 2020 @10:39AM (#24708697)
Man when I was at IBM I had to buy a Watson shirt.
Re:Leaving Mozilla on Wednesday October 07, 2020 @10:38AM (#24708689)
I do wonder what breaking up large US tech corporations does to the competitiveness of the US on the world scale.
For those that don't know, there was a public case about the legality of scraping involving HiQ and LinkedIn (https://www.forbes.com/sites/emmawoollacott/2019/09/10/linke...)

TL;DR; It was considered to be legal because HiQ were scraping public profiles.

This case may be a little bit different because these scrapers seem to target both public and private data.

Also see: https://medium.com/@tjwaterman99/web-scraping-is-now-legal-6... (which mentions a facebook example very similar to this)

Re:Employee works for both Google and Facebook from home on Thursday October 01, 2020 @11:11AM (#24651789)
This was has been my experience with other firms like IBM. I remember it being stated in my employment agreement that I needed permission to work a second job. It even limited your open source exposure. Whether it could be legally enforced is a different matter.
I would have thought these companies paid a better base salary being in such a high cost area.

Also, do FAANGs typically grant more equity after the 4 year vesting period?

Yep analytics is experiencing issues for me.
