Re:Please, Stop the Coding Challenges on Friday November 15, 2024 @01:03PM (#42149299)
I wholeheartedly disagree with this take. there's nuance obviously and takehome coding challenges can be done horribly but when done right and assessed properly, they are a wonderful tool for hiring.

yeah to me a field-recorder with transcription is aimed at least somewhat towards journalists who can't even come close to affording this

It seems much more prone to accidental stopping with the reel on the front. neat looking feature but not sure how practical it is.
Re:Genders.wtf on Wednesday January 11, 2023 @06:54PM (#34346883)
Oh I’m aware, they just don’t need to exist. I wear both men’s and women’s shirts, and dresses and pants and skirts and whatever I want and they all fit me just fine. That’s the point I’m trying to make, it’s a false binary
Re:Genders.wtf on Wednesday January 11, 2023 @12:53PM (#34341741)
What category of clothing it is? dresses and blouses don't need to be gendered just as much as a t-shirt doesn't need to be gendered

Re:Photography is not just about the camera on Thursday November 03, 2022 @05:13PM (#33457690)
I do think it's good advice for folks just getting into photography that you don't have to have every lens to get close to the image you want.
The irony of this announcement being paywalled...
I've done this and we have someone currently out on leave (both of us founders). We do 2 weeks of radio silence, 1 week working half time remote, 1 week of full time remote, then back in the office. The two weeks is tough but we've been able to spread the workload to other members of the team.

Yeah it looks like they're including user's inputs in the random list. I've seen some pretty vulgar ones

What's more disrupting, my one little comment, or you bickering with me about it? it's not language policing, it's treating folks with respect. Also, glad you created your account just to say this.

Re:Ask HN: How do you have fun without alcohol? on Thursday January 06, 2022 @10:37AM (#29824856)
Came here to say this, spend time outside or find a hobby!

> I think people end up drinking because the activities they're doing are kindof boring. Sitting in a bar is pretty boring, board games are extremely boring.

I think your underlying point of, "If you're doing things you don't like or enjoy, alcohol might make them seem more fun" is spot on. I think board games are fun with or without alcohol. The key is to find things that you enjoy doing.
