Re:It's getting harder to focus every day on Friday July 24, 2026 @02:33PM (#49039820)
It feels pretty obvious at this point that overstimulating ourselves with a multitude of different apps, social media, short form video, and so on, is hollowing out our capacity to focus. Cal Newport had a great opinion article in the NYT recently that spoke to this, and how reading might help us "train" our minds when so many media are adversely affecting our attention.'

edit history in Google docs is a good way to defend yourself from AI tool use accusations
Re:The next chapter of the Microsoft–OpenAI partnership on Tuesday October 28, 2025 @10:22AM (#45733258)
some argue that we've already achieved it, albeit in minimal form: https://www.noemamag.com/artificial-general-intelligence-is-...

but in reality, it's a vacuous goal post that can always be kicked down the line.

Re:It's insulting to read your AI-generated blog post on Monday October 27, 2025 @03:32PM (#45725302)
AI generated text like a plume of pollution spreading through the web. Little we can do to keep it at bay. Perhaps transparency is the answer?

Re:Sora: Infinite Meaninglessness on Tuesday October 07, 2025 @11:56AM (#45504769)
what alternative mechanism would you propose?

seems like if we can't find some consensus on regulation, the best option is to create protective mechanisms, attitudes perhaps, some barriers (through norms?) that keep out the slop.

Re:The Dosing and Dependence of LLMs on Sunday June 01, 2025 @02:46PM (#44152919)
Couldn't agree more.
Re:Your Chatbot friend might be messing with your mind on Sunday June 01, 2025 @02:30PM (#44152830)
this is a major risk factor that the LLM providers aren't contending with adequately. from chatbot addiction to the risk of manipulation. there are a lot of "AI Safety" issues that hardly have to do with potential superintelligence.
