Hmm are you sure? google "memphis style symbols" and let me know if you see any similarities.

It's like saying Apple is not Bauhaus.

It's a "Memphis style" variant. Pretty trendy these days. Now the industry is starting to move to "Neumorphism".

Re:Ask HN: Starting a SaaS business as non-technical founder on Saturday August 01, 2020 @11:45AM (#24021324)
Learning to program will give you resilience. As a founder you are "the last resort" of the project. You will find yourself in this scenario many times and it's better to not depend on anyone.

When it comes to starting up, resilience and determination are much more important skills than outstanding programming skills. Or at least that's what experience has taught many of us.

Nowadays you can do a lot with few resources thanks to no-code tools [0], try to keep it simple and reduce LoC as much as possible. If you need a backend, tools like Firebase/Netlify/Saasify [1] are enough to build an MVP and get the ball rolling. And of course, do not try to build something that has 0 demand, just try to build the MVP that meets the demand you have identified and then take it from there.

Seems like GenZ is having their occupy moment. The police is probably just waiting for them to get tired and go home. In few weeks back to "normal".
Woah, this is definitely the solution that the OP needs. I did read about WaveNet's text-to-speech a couple of years ago but didn't know it has progressed this far. It's crazy good, mindblowing.
Congrats, the project looks solid. It's obviously targeted to JS devs who are familiar with firebase or want an easy/similar abstraction for realtime apps. It's great to have several great frameworks tackling the same problem with different flavours (Hasura, Phoenix, Supabase, etc), all with postgres as first class citizen.

I feel like the key is in the choice for the realtime backend (Phoenix/Elixir). I've built real-time firebase apps (JS) in the past and today my choice would probably be Phoenix. It also saves many LoC (80-90%?), and it's a joy to work with. Reduces the JS fatigue and opens up a new paradigm that makes programming fun again.

Programming Phoenix 1.4 is probably the best book. Very friendly and easy to follow (and written by the Phoenix and Elixir creators)

+1 for distillery, very convenient...

Well, I'd say the situation is serious enough to require daily coverage in all front pages. This is the biggest global crisis since WW2.

We've had a global underreaction that didn't pan out exactly well due to politicians and media sticking the head in the sand while the outbreak started in China.

So I disagree, this is good, the situation is critical and people need to be fully aware/informed.

Well, wouldn't surprise me if Apple is now trying to kill aspects of the "open web" they dislike. Ironic because they used "upcoming" web standards as argument to kill Flash.

Apple will do whatever it takes to protect its closed ecosystem, and if that means killing PWAs built with open web technologies they'll provide any dubious excuse to justify it (security, privacy, blahblah). They did the same back in 2010, killing a perfectly valid app platform that was picking up momentum, but they didn't control. A platform that was 5-10 years ahead of the "open web".

Looks like this time they won't use HTML5 as piss-poor excuse.

PS: if you downvote at least comment why

I used to do this 15 years ago, but it's 2020... rock solid hosting for small projects has been free for a long time and takes 0 maintenance time. Plus making it to the top of HN won't kill your site.

A true hacker way in 2020 would be using IPFS or Dat... =)

Hmm you conveniently omitted comments about HA, latency or scalability... Pushing a bundle of files to a CDN it's undeniably a superior static site/SPA hosting in many ways.

Maybe the article overcomplicates but with services like Netlify, Amplify or Firebase Hosting it's stupid easy and cheap, and there's no vendor lock-in.

Although I still use it professionally in some projects, I got over the fullstack JS some time ago.

Now half way through this Phoenix book:

https://pragprog.com/book/phoenix14/programming-phoenix-1-4

Learning Elixir/Erlang/OTP has been a joy so far. It's a new and exciting world in the middle of so much js fatigue.

I think that reached this point is obvious that in our hyperconnected cities a containment is going to be very difficult if the R0 is 3+ and we don't shutdown commuting

Re:Ask HN: A New Decade. Any Predictions? (2010) on Friday January 03, 2020 @08:30AM (#21945637)
It is cool because it really disintermediates powerful entities. Maybe the first iteration of digital money/assets is not that efficient, but that could also be argued for many other innovative technologies.

What is groundbreaking is the concept of P2P value exchange. And that's what bitcoin really is, still a young PoC that will surely evolve or get superseded by a 2.0 tech.

The genie is out of the bottle....
