Database Subsetting with DBSnapper 2.0
DBSnapper 2.0 - Featuring Database Subsetting - is Now AvailableWork with smaller, relationally complete snapshots of large databases for real-world development and testing.Learn more and get started in just a few simple commands:https://dbsnapper.com/blog/introducing-dbsnapper-v2
It's closed-source / proprietary at the moment, but I'm highly considering opening parts / all of it up as a golang library at a minimum, or do a free/pro version to support development. Any thoughts, suggestions?
I have a prelease build (v2.0.0-alpha) available at https://github.com/dbsnapper/dbsnapper/releases
And I'm updating the documentation for v2.0.0 in real-time https://docs.dbsnapper.com. The new configuration is there, but I have some work to do adding docs for the new features.
Works with Mac and Linux (Windows soon)
If you're interested in giving the alpha a try, I'd love feedback and can walk you through any issues you might encounter.

Now I'm no hydrologist, and haven't researched this idea deeply yet, so don't know second and third order effects (i.e. brine disposal mentioned above, and of course the economics of such a venture.) It seems at some point our collective hands may be forced and we may have to do something that doesn't make a profit, yet sustains humanity as a going concern.
Finally, the fact that we haven't "terraformed" in this fashion drought-stricken places like Africa or elsewhere is a pity. But yes, economics, profit, geopolitics, power struggles, I get it.
Handling accidental customer email unsubscribes without bothering development
Yes, and "chemical imbalance" is totally legit but not like its predominantly being marketed. The chemicals (dopamine, seratonin, whatever) are already present in our bodies - they just aren't consistently expressed across the population. For many people, these chemicals aren't released as regularly or in sufficient quantities for a given time period. Often due to lifestyle, but also just differs from person to person. But hey, put in 45 minutes of Z2-Z3 cardio and it can be amazing how the cobwebs get cleared.
> The trend on social media and pop culture is to explain obesity away as a chemical or societal problem
The somewhat recent corporate opportunism targeting obesity and marketing it as completely normal and healthy, almost something to strive for, is incredibly concerning.
Not to mention, exercise is "too hard" for most, the food supply is weaponized with sugar and FUD, everyone is so tired at the end of their "BS job" workday, so hit the couch and stream the streams. And now you have a vicious flywheel that quickly turns people into candidates for the latest big-pharma "cure"
HN Disclaimer: I'm in the US and making generalizations based on my observations. Not saying that there aren't needs for pharma / pills / afflictions that aren't solvable by the above, etc...
AccelaLonely? How to avoid the post-startup-accelerator loneliness
No Touching Creating database snapshots without giving away your data
Why a Fractional CTO Is a Cost Effective Leadership Option for Startups
FYI - Your github link seems to be broken
I’ve been building DBSnapper because I’ve found that a lot of startups lack an easy way to get realistic customer data for development and testing purposes. Manually modeling the database with brittle fixtures is the usual answer to this problem, but often fails to consider many important use-cases that real-world usage data would uncover.
Let me know what you think!
