Let's go Pittsburgh startup! I was ecstatic to see netbeez on the front page.

Also, with us opening remote offices, this might be something that comes in handy.

I like that second quote a lot, I bookmarked your ref to read this evening.

However, I do think it is important we consider Mr. Altman's follow up to your quote: "Even if you miss, you’ll probably end up in a pretty good place." If it weren't for this, "Aim to be the best in the world at whatever you do professionally." would have made me shift in my seat.

I admire your empathy and that you evidently examined the situation versus reacted. Props to you.
Re:2015 Tech Salary Guide [pdf] on Friday March 13, 2015 @12:55PM (#9198186)
Does anyone know of resources similar to the 1994 onward timeline they outline here, but with much much more detail?

Not so interested in the future predictions (without a solid explanation on why they are predicting those, it seems more like at best guessing and at worst marketing hogwash to me).

Re:Ask HN: Career at Intersection of Econ/CS? on Friday February 27, 2015 @06:50PM (#9122119)
Though I am happy with where I am now, I will definitely look into this to see what they might be looking for.

Oh yeah I flinched at the mention of VBA and MS Access.

Thanks for the input!

I would love to buy you a virtual coffee or month of reddit and chat about this sometime if you're down.
Re:Ask HN: Career at Intersection of Econ/CS? on Friday February 27, 2015 @06:47PM (#9122105)
Thanks for this! Great comment for sure.

AI is definitely of interest to me, but unfortunately I am unsure why economics interests me. I would say that it is because I like knowing what people value, but that is admittedly painting with broad strokes.

I find "Meditations on Moloch" intensely interesting. Thank you so much for posting this.

Ask HN: Career at Intersection of Econ/CS?

I find economics and computer science more interesting than anything else, but am unsure of how I can turn this into a career. (Currently an Infrastructure Engineer at a startup, enjoying that position very much because of the rate at which I am learning).Does anyone know of projects/companies that are seeking people interested in economics and CS, or of people who hold positions where they use...

Ask HN: Benchmarking stats repository?

Has anyone stumbled upon a resource that would enable someone to cross reference applications (apache2 vs nginx vs Cassandra vs "generic" JBoss application) and instance specs (hopefully as specific as DigitalOcean droplet or AWS instance type).Of course, there are stats out there on blog posts, but these usually provide at most a handful of instance types (usually previous generations at that)...

Re:Getting Better at Getting Better on Monday November 17, 2014 @12:39AM (#8617004)
Great point.

This is easily observable in the idea that an artist refines his or her's own style. For example, I recently toured the Andy Warhol museum, and the progression of his style/projects were clearly showcased.

Certainly, people recognize him as having an intrinsic talent, but one that he built on to create some of the works for which he is most recognized.

Re:Guacamole – HTML5 Clientless Remote Desktop on Tuesday August 12, 2014 @01:59PM (#8169118)
I have used Guacamole as a solution to supporting remote desktop when the client location's firewall(s) allow nothing except port 80 and 443. Worked perfectly allowing users to connect to multiple desktops with no installation what so ever. Simply the perfect tool for what we needed and setup is a breeze once you familiarize yourself with the documentation.

Definitely keeping this in my mental toolbox!

Re:Ask HN: What does HN community think of new gTLDs? on Wednesday July 02, 2014 @03:36PM (#7979163)
A greater variety of gTLDs allow better descriptions of a site's purpose and function than the traditional gTLDs. I like them and hope that we see more in the future. Are there any downsides that I am missing?

I am currently utilizing both a .email and .io address.

This is part of the plot of "Soylent Green".

Well best of luck! Of course I don't really know, but you're obviously motivated and have skills, so I would bet you're now on the upswing.

I am finishing something now that I hope to post to Show HN as well. Get some feedback, etc.

Edit: AKA derpson5, decided to change my username. Sorry HN DBs, wasted a record.
