Re:Big Fish: Exploiting a 37-Year-Old Kernel Bug in OpenBSD on Friday October 16, 2026 @12:08PM (#50120185)
Heavily audited might be a stretch. Who did the audit and what knew to look for is key. I wonder if they are using agentic tools to help improve the frequency and quality of their audits. Volunteer time is precious and getting robots to help might be useful, but I can also see it taking more of that same volunteer time to get good results from the robots. Either way, its their project and and they'll do as they deem fit, which is totally fine.

Re:Device detection and occupancy monitoring for Airbnb hosts on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @11:41AM (#49994404)
No way. Hotels are already too expensive as are restaurants. I like to stay in a place and I don't want the cost increased just because the local gov't won't build housing. That is a different problem and I guarantee that tax won't fix anything.
Re:Device detection and occupancy monitoring for Airbnb hosts on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @11:39AM (#49994377)
This is purely party prevention. I've had ZERO pushback asking to host a group of friends over for dinner. I ask the owner. Mild inconvenience IMO when you think about the problem they are trying to prevent, the home being thrashed by a large party and the guests having no care about your home.
I want to use sbx more, but I got turned off by having to authenticate so much. Just fired up a session yesterday and I had to re-auth. Nope. Nuked it and setup nono. Sorry docker, this was a huge miss.
Re:Mosquitoes Are a Choice on Monday October 05, 2026 @02:03PM (#49968221)
How does this affect fish that eat mosquitos like trout? Do they have enough food without mosquitos? Just wondering.

Meanwhile I can't afford a new gpu or ram...or cpu now.
Yeah, this is the new norm. Best not to waste too many tears on it. I guess this surprises some people.

Re:OpenAI's Only Ethicist Reportedly Left Last Month on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @08:52PM (#49266523)
There are shareholders to please and money to be made. Of course ethics are out the door.
This is normal tech company marketing strategy, right?
Re:Read this before you buy that TV streaming stick on Thursday July 30, 2026 @07:37PM (#49117237)
You buy garbage, you get garbage. You can no longer depend on resellers or to protect you. They are unphased and unaffected by selling you this garbage. No one else has a financial incentive to protect you. Sorry if this sounds victim blamey. Don't mean it to be. Just trying to convey that we're on our own.
Re:FDA approves new kind of cholesterol pill on Sunday July 19, 2026 @01:51PM (#48970206)
Lose weight, yes. Exercise, yes. Accept a potentially fatal genetic defect when an option is available? No.

Advise not callously generalizing your opinion on things like this. It's clear that you either spoke without knowing more, which happens, or you really don't seem to care to know more. I hope you're not in the latter.

Yeah, I was looking for this comment. Dell/Alienware have been doing this for YEARS. Part of the many reasons I moved from Window to Linux.
"Ray-Ban Wayfarer used to be a such classic design. By associating them with cameras and Meta, Essilor Luxottica has messed up an iconic name and brand."

Fixed it for you.

I love having a 3rd person in an interview. If they are taking notes, I can have a conversation with the candidate.

Re:The truth about being a manager on Tuesday June 23, 2026 @02:20PM (#48649107)
If it scares you off, thats a good thing. A manager who doesn't want to do these things might not be an effective manager. I think its better to go in eyes open to what it really means. I think the author did a good job of that.

I was hoping for more upsides, but, I'm not surprised by the short list either.

Re:The truth about being a manager on Tuesday June 23, 2026 @02:18PM (#48649080)
The list of tasks piled on to a human manager are too much for a manager to do well. The role of management feels like a dumping ground for menial tasks, but oh yeah, you need to pass a coding review too, in some roles. LOL
