Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (October 2026) on Friday October 02, 2026 @11:21AM (#49934530)
Rebar | Software Engineers (Product, Applied AI, ML Infra, Data Platform) | ONSITE 5 days/week, New York City (union square area!) | Full-time | $150k–$260k + equity | https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/rebar

We build AI estimating software for commercial HVAC, plumbing, and electrical contractors. Before bidding on a job, a contractor or estimator has to count every duct, fitting, diffuser, and piece of equipment across a set of construction drawings that can run to thousands of pages. We speed this up by ingesting the drawings, detecting the equipment schedules, finding symbols, and producing a priced takeoff that the estimator reviews and corrects in a collaborative canvas editor. We have strong PMF and raised a $14M Series A earlier this year.

It may not sound sexy, but it actually is!! There are a ton of hard and interesting engineering challenges. Just to highlight a few:

* very dense document drawings with a realtime collaborative canvas editor (think 50k DOM elements and up) * segmentation models (and many more) whose output has to become geometry a user can interact with * gpu inference across hundreds of concurrent jobs * dynamic analytics and chart generation from agentic workflows custom built for estimators

Open roles:

* Software Engineer, Product ($180k–$240k): https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/rebar/5ab49c2d-9a70-4723-9217-7704a... * Software Engineer, Applied AI ($150k–$250k): https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/rebar/ad41a627-d9a4-49a4-a1b4-f7202... * Software Engineer, ML Infrastructure ($200k–$260k): https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/rebar/ead8df0c-b6da-4e79-90d0-99651... * Software Engineer, Data Platform ($170k–$220k): https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/rebar/c227ea05-98f8-4a08-9760-f7e3c...

Re:Dropbox CEO Drew Houston to step down on Tuesday May 26, 2026 @06:02PM (#48286624)
I was lucky enough to work at Dropbox for a bit. Awesome engineering culture and such good people. Got to even grab a beer and rip karaoke with Drew. Thanks for creating such an awesome working environment Drew. I cannot say thank you enough for those memories or that experience. By far the best CEO and leader I've seen.

Show HN: Odozi – open-source iOS journaling app

https://odozi.app

Yeah I know I hate the name too but I wasn't about to pay up for odyssey.app.It's an open source project so feel free to poke around with it / fork it. I talk about it more on the marketing website, but a few of us have been using it for the past month and kind of fun. Obviously there will be a slew of issues / feedback / nits that come from this, but c'est la vie. GH is here:...

Sick project. Great work. Thanks for the HF dataset as well.
Re:Ask HN: How are you doing RAG locally? on Thursday January 15, 2026 @08:03AM (#46631836)
+1 on this one, I've been pleasantly surprised by this for a small (<3GB) local project
Re:Show HN: New Ensō – first public beta on Monday June 30, 2025 @10:04AM (#44423425)
Just want to say beautiful website and product. Ensō looks well designed. And your "digital garden" is gorgeous as well.
Re:Tennis Scorigami on Sunday June 29, 2025 @09:32PM (#44418305)
Just a note, if you guys haven't checked out the `Explore` page, I would highly recommend doing that for some interesting visualizations. My first page -> second page dropoff % is higher than I would have hoped for...
Re:Tennis Scorigami on Sunday June 29, 2025 @09:30PM (#44418289)
Great feedback. I hear ya on the automatic carousels just was trying to capture that scoreboard-esque feel.

I'll take action on these comments soon(ish). But yes, I concur I need to drastically improve the mobile layout tbh.

Re:Tennis Scorigami on Sunday June 29, 2025 @09:28PM (#44418284)
Honestly, it ends up being about 30% of the way I interact with my landing page. For better or for worse.
Re:Tennis Scorigami on Sunday June 29, 2025 @09:28PM (#44418281)
Ok 1) thank you for the comment about the website haha I am flattered. 2) Anything I could do to make your more invested in the numbers? I get what you mean about some of the scores being almost too homogenous and therefore the fact it's unique at a best-of-5 level makes it almost less globally unique. Any thoughts on how I could make the "story" a bit more interesting?
Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (June 2025) on Sunday June 29, 2025 @08:45PM (#44418034)
I'm working on Tennis Scorigami - a data viz and tennis centric project somewhat similar to NFL's scorigami, but with a little bit more (if i do say so) interesting visualizations / new ways to look at the data.

From a technical side, I've processed around 325k+ matches. Right now, only main ATP / WTA matches (no challengers, no doubles, no mixed) sadly. I'm working on expanding that, improving our infra layout, exposing a public facing API, collecting the data on my own, and most importantly live score ingestion (especially given the fact that Wimbledon is starting tomorrow).

Feedback on the app through Canny / joining the Discord / following the Twitter / or any and all of the above would be much appreciated.

Yeah great work with this. Seems like a real opportunity given how hard Duolingo is dropping the ball.
Yeah for what it's worth, ChatGPT with custom instructions can definitely do this! This was something that I did pretty early on: https://chatgpt.com/g/g-6mfNb9Hys-calendar-creator
