Firearms are legal in Texas. One person committed violence. Others got 50 years for being at the same protest. Another got 30 years for picking up his own box of zines.

The First Amendment was written by people who experienced this same chilling of free speech.

And Delaware would say, what responsibility? The state wants to sanction “AI-managed” corporations. https://oversight.house.gov/release/comer-investigates-poten...

Pal, I’m not the one who used the word. I am observing that books are predominantly black ink in white paper, despite color ink being around before the printing press.
I love how the Apple Watch patronizingly congratulates me for standing in the morning. Can’t wait til the battery dies and I can get a Swatch.
But how do you know when to stand?
Color ink remains a niche in books.
I have a b/w page-sized Kobo, but I can tell you one nice thing vs the iPad is the weight. I don’t think the color (at lower resolution) is worth it for me.
The separation between advertising and editorial has never been greater. Brought to you by the marketing wizards who saw you bought a vacuum cleaner on Amazon and concluded you love buying vacuum cleaners so here’s some more.

Because it's pointless. 10 years into the experiment, there's nothing to learn. People are economically anxious but vote against their own interests so they can reinforce a caste system? People are gullible or hypocrites? People are willfully ignorant enough to want to ask the mob their agenda?

If you really want their viewpoint, plenty of sob stories at https://www.reddit.com/r/LeopardsAteMyFace/hot/

Okay, then take those back out before dissolving DHS.
You're telling me appeasement doesn't work?

> I'll also point out that throughout the article it points how the operation was authorized by Obama, appealed for bt democratic senators trying to stop "disinformation" and prevent election "interference" as well as Republican presidents.

This is a culmination of everything post-9/11. The lesson for administrations is to not create institutions that will be weaponized by future administrations — against your party too, if you won't think about the citizens. Decentralization has been our saving grace.

Re:Ask HN: What's your favorite children's books? on Sunday October 11, 2026 @12:31AM (#50039807)
In that case, anything you can stand to read over and over again with feeling (Little Blue Truck was it for me), and the Eric Carle and Sandra Boynton books.
Eh, your example is a different kind of game. Not into linear choose-your-own-adventure games myself. I think the UI of this one accurately models the many moving parts and forces in the process it's simulating, and I didn't have a problem picking it up though I skipped the tutorial. It has a sense of humor (read the speaker comments at meetings, and the news articles), and hits you with the real world outcome each development is based on. Made an impact on me.
What I thought was interesting about this one was the broken regulatory system that allowed this, and that led regulators not to penalize the unlicensed business, but to issue a cease and desist for expediency.

At licensed farms, California investigators have collected the milk themselves. And because newer batches might not have the same contaminant that sickened consumers, they have also combed the farmland for the pathogen, sampling dirt, groundwater and animal droppings.
Department officials told ProPublica that California law does not permit investigators to enter unlicensed properties, even when they receive reports of unlicensed activity.
Re:The designer lamps in my house on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @12:31AM (#49974208)
Since you’re a fan of Sapper, have you peeped the Halley? He did it for an LED lighting startup (back when that was a thing), very artsy for him. I got one on eBay several years ago that I use as a work lamp because of its supreme adjustability. Uses my favorite electromechanical connector of all time, the 3.5mm audio jack (I’ve used it on every one of my hardware products).
I just got my kid a cheap flip phone that isn't as dumb as I wanted, because it's got KaiOS, a FireFox OS offshoot. An undiscovered country with just a few thousand apps in their store, and a web framework to make your own. If HN would get into it like it's an e-ink display, we could have all the little apps we need, and no ads or distractions.

Adrian Tchaikovsky has a good take on it as well, Human Resources.

I think they should’ve used the word ‘focused’. Everything else about the presentation says it’s a professional communication tool.

Bring back OS licensing, Apple!

Axon (among others) has operations hubs for data fusion centers and other platforms for police like Evidence.com, so it’s an easy sell to departments.

Communities are starting to pivot to the wider issue, but a reason that this issue found purpose is that Flock is a more evocative target than “ALPRs”. I think it wouldn’t be a bad thing if “Flock” becomes the generic name.

Reminds me why a friend picked RCN over Comcast for his Internet. “They’re the more incompetent evil company.”

One of my favorite books is Turtles, Termites, and Traffic Jams (https://mitpress.mit.edu/9780262680936/turtles-termites-and-...), basically the thesis of one of his students (and current MIT Media Lab professor) Mitchel Resnick. It's about the educational value of modeling distributed systems with StarLogo.
