Please suggest a better alternative for a cloud server? (Genuine question, where do I move?)
Re:Official Claude Code extension compromise on Friday October 30, 2026 @02:50PM (#50308466)
Ironically, that page has a paragraph "How Cursor reduces supply-chain risk:"

Which is exactly the opposite of what happened today.

Re:Official Claude Code extension compromise on Friday October 30, 2026 @11:58AM (#50305798)
Ok, so... Summing this up

- Cursor (obviously) is not using MSFT vscode extensions library - Cursor (apparently) is not using Open-VSX either! - Cursor uses it's own "Cursor's marketplace" which is not public, no one knows what it is exactly, and looks like it is proxying open-vsx marketplace (?) - THAT "Cursor's markeplace" is what was compromised today.

So. I would really really love someone from Cusro's team to step in and explain WTF just happened! (pardong the language)

Oh god... this needs more attention

An official announcement from Anthropic would be nice!

Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:18PM (#50293576)
69k rep here. I treated stackoverflow as my “facebook”. I even have moderator permissions.

I still left eventually and LLM has nothing to do with it. It’s the “closing as duplicate”, it’s the “provide text explanation not just code”, it’s the “deleted as off topic”.

I can’t tell you how many times I was finding useful info in DELETED answers (I see them as moderator). And the existing “vote for undelete/reopen” procedure does not work.

SO did not die because of LLLMs. It died because it was driven to the ground then sold private equity and about to be sold again (mark my words)

Dog barking is, like, 1% of the findings. They also claim the TV is:

1. taking screenshots of your screen 2. fingerpriting devices on your local network 3. connects to bluetooth mics in the room and recording audio without asking etc.

Re:Microsoft-Decision-1, our model for fast decision-making on Saturday October 10, 2026 @08:57AM (#50032479)
They do mention it in the article

“To build Microsoft-Decision-1, we post trained Qwen3.5-9B”

Time to do what? Watch more Netflix, doomscroll, procrastinate?

Don’t fool yourself, we’re not exactly curing cancer.

I’d rather solve a tech puzzle by hand.

Re:You Are No Longer Invited to Dinner on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @03:21PM (#49898949)
Thanks you for this comment.

I’m bad at throwing parties and I’m a bad cook.

So instead I invite friends/family to stay over. Even with kids.

Thats also very gratofying, play some board games, sit next to the fire and then have breakfast together.

Best way to copē with the world at it’s current state.

(Also a European here, mildly affectrd ny war)

Re:SAML: A Fractal of Bad Design on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @01:00PM (#49819125)
I maintain a popular Saml library for NET (aspnetsaml). And yep, I made that rookie mistake too

same. "macOS Tahoe 26+" requirement is a bummer.
Re:Hacking IKEA Furniture on Monday August 31, 2026 @06:38AM (#49508069)
Not when the convention is that theres supposed to be a real person on the other side.

Example: a real musician decides to use AI to generate music (in full or partially) - their audience may still feel cheated.

This comment is (mostly) AI generated.

Which is funny because it complains about the lack of originality

Re:"It works better in the app " on Friday August 28, 2026 @03:32PM (#49483211)
Gmail mobile app doesn't let me search in the "trash" or "spam" folder.

Opening Gmail in mobile browser does not work too.

I have to open it in the browser - then "request mobile website" - then try to search there - aaaahnd it still reset to the mobile version ever other request.

Re:HTML Can Do That on Sunday August 23, 2026 @02:44PM (#49411300)
Try using dialog in safari. It causes full layout recalculation and overloads cpu even on simple pages.

HTML can do everything yes. But the world is not ready

Re:The Amazon Tax on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @06:36PM (#49353779)
> paying Amazon a dollar to show you an ad for the book you searched in the first place.

This is the worst part.

Google Ads are the same. I pay about $2 per click for my EXACT PRODUCT NAME search, otherwise 6 other competitor ads are shown on top of google search before the actual results

Re:My server is a phone now on Sunday August 09, 2026 @01:07PM (#49233275)
You can use a smart plug that turns it on/off. Or even a mechanical outlet timer.

Or set the phone to never charge above 80%

Thta said, keeping it on charger for months will eventually swell its battery, true.

Re:GitHub Is Experiencing Difficulties on Thursday August 06, 2026 @06:33PM (#49203539)
tragedy of the commons, exactly
I've actually created a Chrome extension for [feature 2] ages ago (mostly for myself). If the current URL is on HN - it shows it (with the number of upvotes)

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/hidhfijjhnnajlkikij...

You can contribute to an OSS platform. To accellerate innovation, adoption etc

You CANNOT contribute anything to a model.

Re:Maybe you should learn something on Saturday July 04, 2026 @02:44PM (#48787746)
I live in Europe, had to get my permanent residence permit and for that - you have to pass the language exam. Boy, that was some experience!

I'm in my 40's so learning a new language has activated the brain muscles that were last active when I was... 4?

They were so rusty, slow and amost physically refused to cooperate at first. This was tough. Now looking back it was absolutely worth it, best brain workout ever. Best.

Anthropic: lets embed super secret invisible undetectable unicode telemetry into our prompts

Also Anthropic: lets do this in JS

> world can't deal with something that requires global concentrated efforts

Saddest part is that it used to

The Ozone layer problem was exactly this: coordinated global concentrated effort.

I doubt we can do that again though.

I speak Russian and that version sounds way more natural. But you’re right, just being nitpicky

Funny enough the post is machine-translated by AI - from the Russian original at https://orchidfiles.com/ru/im-tired-of-ai-generated-answers-...
