DoorDash (YC S13) - Palo Alto, CA - hiring engineers and operations managers to build the future of on-demand logistics.

We're creating a platform to connect small businesses with consumers for the next generation of local delivery. Unlike other local logistics companies, we operate a full stack delivery service: by partnering with merchants, hiring our own drivers, and building our own logistics software, we are able to control the entire delivery experience to make it more efficient for everyone.

Our team is looking to grow with talented people who want to build much more than just a food delivery company. We help small businesses grow, give underemployed people meaningful work, and offer affordable convenience to consumers. I'm happy to answer any of your questions: [email protected].

We're hiring for all jobs listed here: https://www.doordash.com/jobs. DoorDash is growing very quickly and we'd love to have you join us!

Engineering:

* Front-end Engineer - build intuitive user experiences by interfacing with our APIs and using your framework of choice

* Software Engineer - create predictive models to efficiently assign drivers to orders and build out our backend systems

* iOS/Android Developer - bring our products for consumers, merchants, and drivers to mobile

* Designer - work with all DoorDash teams to work on any part of the visual delivery experience, including print materials, marketing campaigns, and web UI/UX

Operations:

* General manager (LA/Chicago) - be the CEO of a market. You’ll be responsible for the financials, building a team, running the launch playbook, and reporting back to HQ how your local team is performing.

* Operations Manager, Chicago - Build and scale out a world class driver workforce that's excited about delivering happiness to our customers.

* Operations Launcher - Brings DoorDash into new markets across the country. In this role, you will execute the launch playbook and processes to bring drivers to each city that DoorDash serves.

* Partnerships Launcher - Brings DoorDash into new markets across the country. In this role, you will co-create the launch playbook and processes to partner with merchants in each city that DoorDash serves.

* Bay Area Sales Lead - Grow merchant partnerships for DoorDash in the Bay Area.

* Drive Team Builder - We are looking for someone to join our Operations Team to focus on driver acquisition. You will pitch driver candidates on DoorDash as an expert on our brand, and develop and lead our driver acquisition strategy as we expand to new markets.

* Operations support - join our elite ops team to delight customers by any means necessary and support drivers while they deliver

* Partnerships launcher - bring DoorDash into new markets across the country by creating the launch playbook to partner with local merchants

* Merchant account manager - support small businesses across the country as they grow and partner with DoorDash delivery

* Operations manager - build and scale out a world class driver workforce that's excited about delivering happiness to our customers

* Delivery driver - work full-time or part-time delivery happiness (and food!) to delight our customers.

What you'll get:

* Free lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks

* Health, Dental and Vision covered 100%

* Unlimited free deliveries via DoorDash!

* Competitive salary and equity packages

* Flexible hours. We're an active team that loves to get outside every day

* Open vacation policy

* Free on-demand magic tricks from our in-house magician

(I work at DoorDash)

For restaurants that we haven't yet partnered with, we have a slightly increased price in order to pay for the cost of delivery. However, many of our restaurants pay this fee as a commission, and the price on our website is the same as at the restaurant.

We try to be very upfront about this price difference for our customers. For more info, see https://www.doordash.com/faq/#question4.

Looks like an interesting concept for a product. I don't have much experience selling to restaurants in particular so I can't comment on the business model, but I can offer a couple pieces of advice regarding how to sell software to small businesses:

1) Good job emphasizing "increase revenue". Software is an incredibly tough sell to SMBs if you aren't helping them decrease costs or increase revenue, so the more you emphasize the practical implications of your software the better.

2) The homepage is a little sparse on details. If I owned a restaurant, I'd want to see at least a bunch of screenshots, if not an interactive demo. Telling me that the product gives me happier customers is fine, but I really need to see what I'm going to be working on.

3) On the pricing page, a general tactic is to put real prices and see who clicks on which tiers. That way, you can see how many people would actually be willing to pay for your product and how many are just mildly interested.

4) When you get the emails, make sure you talk to them within a day. I've found that most potentially leads go down the toilet if you wait much longer, so you're going to want to engage them while they're interested.

Shoot me an email at the email on my profile if you want to talk more!

Yeah, I had some odd symlink issues.
Re:Fix broken Python dev environments in Mac OS X Mavericks on Friday October 25, 2013 @07:22PM (#6615369)
It definitely depends on your system configuration. Ideally, it shouldn't break, but however I had it set up was not happy about the upgrade. Did you use the built in Mac python or a new install from Python.org?
Re:Fix broken Python dev environments in Mac OS X Mavericks on Friday October 25, 2013 @07:17PM (#6615345)
I don't know why they should be, but when I restarted my computer after the update I was greeted with a big fat broken virtualenv install, so I wrote this guide to help anyone else with the same problems.
Re:PG charts acceleration of YC applications since noon on Monday October 21, 2013 @06:57PM (#6588749)
Is this a graph of the rate of change (acceleration) of applications, or a graph of the raw number of applications submitted? Some labels might be helpful.
Re:The Strava Files on Sunday October 20, 2013 @02:59PM (#6581018)
I'm a relatively new Strava user, and so far I have found it to be very helpful and motivational in my adventures into cycling. As an inexperienced rider, I'm usually a couple hundred spots down from the leaderboard, so seeing the fastest riders serves only to inspire me to push harder on my own rides. Without this motivation, I doubt that I would try as hard as I do on my recorded rides, so there is no question in my mind that Strava is at least partially a beneficial force.

However, there are certainly times on downhill segments where I have seen fastest time and shaken my head at the ridiculous speeds the riders had to go to win. I've marked my fair share of dangerous segments and I believe that is the users' responsibility to do so to prevent insane accidents like the ones listed in this article.

While I feel complete sympathy for the families of these victims, I don't believe that Strava is at all responsible for what they did. It was illegal, inconsiderate, and gives every other rider a bad name, and regardless of any leaderboards they may have been striving for they should have had more self restraint. Furthermore, I believe that cyclists like that would push themselves to speeds like that regardless of Strava, whether to beat their friends or just set personal records. Just like many other web apps, Strava provides a service that opens up data, and it is up to the user to use the data responsibly.

Besides being a pretty neat way to filter out companies that are willing to put a little bit of extra effort into their hiring process, this is also one of the few appropriate uses I've seen of the Lobster font ;)
