Re:Itch.io Taken Down by Funko on Monday December 09, 2024 @04:24AM (#42364402)
Isn't insane that many of the comments are linking the CEO of Funko,

Am I the crazy one for seeing that in relation with the recent Health Care CEO events?

Interestingly this taught me I never look at usernames, thanks for pointing out
I think point 2 could be an advantage, not a downside. If no-one you speak to mentions the broken window, maybe it's not a big issue. This assumes you speak to a mix of old and new users
Re:Flattr is closing down on Thursday January 18, 2024 @11:57AM (#39044191)
It's important to make the distinction between:

- Twitch is losing money because the costs of running the platform are higher then the revenue

- Twitch is losing money because they're aggressively investing in growth

if you want to know about the viability of the concept, I'm not sure which one it is, video streaming and small payment processing could both be quite costly

Offtopic: this title seems to mess with the title AutoCapitalizer
I just tried https://www.google.com/search?q=%22I+used+this+quite+frequen... and it works for me now, but I definitely recall having problems searching verbatim before, perhaps they improved/changed it recently?
that's what that means yeah, but not necessarily present it in the same way

Re:Minify and Gzip (2022) on Monday July 17, 2023 @09:28AM (#36758004)
I like the idea, but just tested your specific example with https://facia.dev/tools/compress-decompress/gzip-compress/

and the second version compresses better, as my intuition already thought, without knowing how gzip works, because you still need a kind of identifier for repeated strings, and how much shorter than 1 byte can they be.

AFAIK for hearing damage frequency does not matter
what about a non-empty bar prohibits slow drinking?
With "narrow slice of the market" I think they mean that their usecase is a small market, not that they capture a tiny part of it.

Someone made something fun in the tools they know and shared it with the public
Would also depend on the reason you want to reduce it.

Privacy? Data? Attention? Propaganda?

Re:Vint Cerf’s Career Advice for Engineers on Tuesday May 16, 2023 @03:42AM (#35958763)
Interesting way of looking at it, and I actually think it applies to a lot of advice.
Regarding drawing analyzers, spectrographs:

I feel it actually has become a lot more expensive to draw individual pixels to a screen with the cpu compared to 20yrs ago.

Perhaps just because the resolutions are higher, but maybe the architecture (hardware or os) have just changed.
