Re:Qwen 3.6 27B is the sweet spot for local development on Monday June 29, 2026 @03:23PM (#48723877)
It is also available with Ollama now and I am equally impressed too.

Me too, I am on a Jetson Orion 64GB (about 50W max). Using the nvidia graphic cards for AI seem to be so power hungry that it was not a choice I could take with todays environmental problems.
Re:Filing the Corners Off MacBooks on Saturday April 11, 2026 @11:23AM (#47731389)
I have a similar problem. My handicap makes it impossible to use the huge trackpad of all newer MacBooks. I am working still with a 2012 MacBook Pro that had a considerable smaller trackpad. Any idea from you guys how to circumvent these trackpad monsters? Thanks for any suggestion.

Ask HN: Signal EOL on macOS 10.15 (Catalina)

Signal stops supporting macOS 10.15 (Catalina) soon. This is fine and correct, since the 10.15 support by Apple has been stopped for a while too. My problem is, that I depend on an old MacBook Pro from 2012, because I am handicaped and all newer MacBooks have a too large trackpad for me (typing for me is not possible with these trackpads). I could install a current Linux distro on that Mac and...

Maybe it is a good idea to wait and see how the market envolves. I guess ASML has a few more years to be the leader.
Re:The Soul of an Old Machine on Sunday April 16, 2023 @09:53AM (#35590044)
I have a similar Mac, a 2013er. I love that machine so much that I bought another, nearly the exact copy of it, a few years ago. Currently I can not imagine that I will need a better/newer Mac or another modern machine. However I am old/older now and had my share on "I need a new computer/laptop every few years".
Re:Are cryptocurrencies about to go mainstream? on Monday July 03, 2017 @11:42AM (#14689067)
That really depends on the amount.
Re:Why You Should Hire an Old Programmer on Monday July 03, 2017 @10:22AM (#14688426)
Yep, same here too. Worked as a freelancer for 15 years with one company and now trying to find a new contract (with only a small network) is pretty hard (can only do remote jobs due to a handicap).
Anyone knows a good job board for remote jobs in Germany? Thanks!
I agree. Nobody at any time promised anything. If you invested early, it was a high risk that the whole cryptocurrency could just have imploded and actually for many it did (BTC and Mt.Gox or lost wallets). Now a few years later it pays out for those who cared early about it. Congratulations for those.

I wished something similar would exist in Germany too. Maybe I should start a oldgeekjobs.de!
Re:DDoS protection on Thursday September 01, 2016 @09:02AM (#12404892)
I always liked Hetzner and I have a few dedicated servers there. Their service was always fast and very competent. However they are not soo cheap compared to other hosters anymore.

I am sorry Apple, but that message made you look like you are excusing yourself for paying no tax.

Unfortunately with coursera-dl it didn't work.

Re:Homemade Speakers on Sunday July 06, 2014 @06:22AM (#7994187)
A friend of mine created an online app that helps calculating Loudspeaker Enclosures. The app is completely free, no registration necessary.

I think the list was helpful as well. I know quite a few of those acronyms and what hey mean, but a few I did not know.
Re:Apple Releases iBeacon Specification on Tuesday February 25, 2014 @11:59AM (#7298740)
I think you can use it for indoor navigation were GPS is useless. However I am not sure of this.
Re:How I hacked Github again on Friday February 07, 2014 @01:54PM (#7197988)
Matasanos CTF is hard. At least I think so, but a good start anyway.
Re:Applied Cryptography Engineering on Saturday July 27, 2013 @01:52PM (#6113746)
Yes, I've heard about the Matasano's Crypto Challenge, but want to recommend Coursera's Crypto courses too: https://www.coursera.org/course/crypto
Arrrg! Forget about the cloud. I'll host my servers at home, unplug them at night and watch my log files over the day :)
I simply wish him good luck!
