Eg: i think my kids will likely be more comfortable, have more convenience, than me — but i worry a lot they will be more anxious and lonely.
I don’t personally believe this gets solved through regulation, religion, or self-discipline.
imo we just need technology products that drastically reduce the cost of things that make us less anxious and lonely
We build sensors that track the behavior of high throughput fluid systems. Our goal is to help the oil and gas industry, water municipalities, and anyone dealing with fluid optimize allocations while reducing spills and theft. Our sensor is a self-contained unit attached to a pipe which sends ultrasonic data directly to our server via cellular/satellite; we then use a mix of physics equations, signal processing, and anomaly detection to determine the behavior of fluid (volume and speed).
We are a small software team based in San Francisco with offices in Houston and Mexico City. You’ll work on models to improve the performance of our 100+ sensors deployed around the world. You’ll also leverage our remotely controllable flow-loop test facility in Houston to generate training data from our sensors. Join us if you want to be a leader at a rapidly growing company that’s using innovative technology to solve hard problems in the physical world.
Software Stack - Python, Django, Postgres, React Contact: [email protected]
FlowCommand is hiring ML engineers to analyze fluid behavior using ultrasonics

Their real gripe is in their belief that the average American is clueless about what goes into that ~5% unemployment stat.
BLS is transparent enough to make this criticism unwarranted, but the media/press covering unemployment statistics certainly aren't careful to define the stats they use.
Whether the 'sleight of hand' is intentional or not is another story (I'm inclined to say it's not, people just need a figure to benchmark to)
worth noting though, that the separation of the two groups [educated/non-sports] and [sports] is probably related to cost of activities ($basketball < $computers or tutors) and also related to the simple probability that top x% intellectuals and top x% athletes aren't likely to overlap. Everyone in-between is then forced to pick sides/friends...and sports-talk is super social/accessible.
e.g. 'WWII in color' films make things feel remarkably more relatable than B/W footage
Wouldn't be surprised if we see a similar change, if not more dramatic, if/when VR becomes a more prevalent form of media
