The objection was to you telling Apple employees to shut up and never question Apple authority. And then pulling some mental gymnastics that Apple is 'special' with not being remote friendly

It should be noted that those small number of websites are collectively responsible for most of the internet traffic today:

it has an appearance of it, but we have no idea if that's all the info and/or the real control we have
What kind of tools/tech are you using to do this? I've been thinking of doing the same
I appreciate you open sourcing this. Good luck on future projects.
Re:Apple Sign In on Monday June 03, 2019 @06:26PM (#20089589)
Great feature, shame it's tied to apple hardware - making it inaccessible to those who cannot afford it.

When you're trying to read the site for yourself, it can be distracting and a bit obnoxious.

Except kicking the door down is not particularly scalable or clandestine

Judging from the repo, there is no broadcast of content. Please take the time to read and think critically before you react with misinformation

There's no consent on behalf of the friends if one shares information about their friends to an app. Consent is given directly

Re:After Equifax breach, anger but no action in Congress on Wednesday January 03, 2018 @08:49AM (#16060901)
Did anyone manage to successfully obtain a police report number as a result of this fuck up by equifax?
Exactly, it's much more portable than any other electronic comms system atm.
Re:Ask HN: Why are credit card chip readers so slow? on Monday June 26, 2017 @11:25AM (#14637509)
USA still hasn't adopted the faster payment model of same-day payments between the banks (without charge). Compare that to the UK which most payment transactions are completed within 4 hours

If the cost and cumbersome nature of VR can be reduced to bring it in line with just putting on a set of headphones and still be aware of the outside environment, sure.
>"From what I've seen, users are more than happy to have an application that solves their need no matter what it's created in. Most people don't really think about file sizes, or the fact that Chromium is packaged with Node, they just want their problem solved without visual or performance hiccups."

To be frank, most users often don't have a better performant alternative (outside of maybe a browser tab) so it seems like a redundant point.

People use spotify for their library/features - they'll put up with the client because there's no alternative clients to stream their spotify.
>I read people saying things like Spotify and Atom are "unusable" and slow because they're written in JavaScript when they have plenty of happy users.

Well there isn't exactly a choice of what spotify client to compare it to is there - so users have to use it by default rather than be 'happy' about it.

>I'm willing to take a slight performance hit if that allows me to use the same app on any platform, even if it's size becomes 200 megabytes bigger.

From personal exeprience, it's beyond slight perf hit. Often js apps are the ones hogging most of the resources on my system.

Problem is that's just vague self-help-esq feel-good advice that applies to everything and subsequently means nothing.
well it's a JS app firstly so it's kind of laggy and a bit of a memory hog.
I really like MusicBee - seems to fill my winamp hole for the most part https://getmusicbee.com/
That's the most pragmatic approach. I don't give money to something untested and with no guarantees of getting a working/high-quality product (which aren't covered by regular consumer rights).

You might feel safer - but it's not because of the 'extra security'. That's all it is...a feeling (much like that of feeling safer with a sky being) - http://abcnews.go.com/US/exclusive-undercover-dhs-tests-find...
Re:Carlsbad, CA to photograph every car entering city on Wednesday March 22, 2017 @05:20AM (#13929508)
Looking at the data, most of those deaths come from India and China - countries that have fundamental infrastructure problems. Traffic mortality is a symptom of something much bigger.
Re:Carlsbad, CA to photograph every car entering city on Wednesday March 22, 2017 @05:17AM (#13929493)
Well, unlike the police in your scenario, you don't have the legal power to affect one's rights for one. And the 'sharing online' part could be considered some sort of legal infraction on privacy
> Is it that they failed with XBoxOne, now Sony and Nintendo eat MSFT former console market share as breakfast.

I'll think you'll find that XBone has sold pretty well (faster rate than the 360 in the same time period). It just that the PS4 sold extraordinarily well in comparison. Too early to tell for the switch but WiiU (which was competing with xbone) was nowhere near eating their breakfast.

> This is your only legitimate point, but it grows less legitimate every day.

As a gamer I've not seen much more progress (outside of WINE workarounds, some GoG ports and Valve-specific games). Most AAA games still exclusively windows due to things like DRM (Denuvo is windows-only IIRC)
