Re:Machine Learning Crash Course on Friday March 02, 2018 @03:57AM (#16500063)
They are talking about PhDs in Machine Learning of course
Lots of universities have Data Science Master's Programs, which may ultimately fall under the Computer Science, Mathematics or Stats department. So, it depends on the university.
Re:AI’s Language Problem on Tuesday August 09, 2016 @07:43PM (#12258459)
I am inclined to agree with you, but then I remember that people used to say the same thing about chess. Perhaps completely solving language requires strong AI, but maybe we can get 99% there with something like the "chinese room", an AI that works like a well learned parrot.
Re:Where Can a Ph.D. Take You? Back to School, Usually on Sunday May 08, 2016 @09:48AM (#11654047)
it is a factor, but not the only factor. Besides, the world isn't completely fair, you know.

Being paid less for a more fulfilling/meaningful job IS fair.

This is slower than the sieve right?
If I understood correctly, they are not using any MCTS, I believe they are not doing any look ahead, only greedily selecting the best turn.
Re:Ask HN: Who are your favorite poets? on Monday March 30, 2015 @07:29PM (#9293347)
THE ROAD TO WISDOM

The road to wisdom? -- Well, it's plain and simple to express: Err and err and err again but less and less and less.

Re:The Parable of the Two Programmers (1985) on Sunday January 25, 2015 @10:01AM (#8943053)
I have already started programming, it is just that all the problem sets I have solved were easy enough that I could get to coding right away, and when I couldn't I just thought I was dumb
Re:The Parable of the Two Programmers (1985) on Sunday January 25, 2015 @01:54AM (#8942247)
Wow, as someone who is going to start doing Computer Science next year, I had already heard that most of programming is about thinking, but had no idea that is was to the point of 5 lines of code per day being exceptional.
Re:Mouse Box on Thursday January 22, 2015 @10:32PM (#8933263)
I am okay with the general concept(though I guess it would be a lot better to put a computer on a keyboard, or seriously, on a phone), but I think that claiming this is the future of computing is ridiculous, pretty much the only thing this seems to be good at is being able to procrastinate at work, and once people are aware that you can put a computer on a mouse, that goes away
Re:Ask HN: The best Linux laptop on Saturday November 29, 2014 @09:33AM (#8673790)
I am going to break OPs rule: anybody here has linux running on a macbook air? I really wanted to get a light laptop with a long battery and found no alternative as good as MBA
Re:Ask HN: Hacker forum or IRC? on Sunday August 31, 2014 @12:05PM (#8249616)
I feel the exactly opposite way, I think IRC is the place where I am the most open
Re:Ask HN: Hacker forum or IRC? on Sunday August 31, 2014 @10:30AM (#8249367)
But the whole point is to have a general place with lots of people where all things hacker could be talked about, I spend some time on topic-specific IRC channels but I don't want to talk about python or arch all day, I wanted a channel that was about the community
Re:Ask HN: Hacker forum or IRC? on Sunday August 31, 2014 @09:58AM (#8249294)
Though I think this document exagerates a little, by hacker I meant this: http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/hacker-howto.html

Because I am 16
He said transcribed, I guess he meant letter by letter
Re:Ask HN: How to learn design as a hacker? on Friday August 15, 2014 @12:29PM (#8182891)
funny you ask it like that, there is a book which is literally named "design for hackers" and it is pretty good
