Show HN: Lacuna – open-source inline AI writing suggestions for your Mac

https://jackdamon.org/blog/lacuna/

This past week I built (prompted) a tool I find myself using day to day and wanted to share it with others who may find it useful as well.“Lacuna” is an opinionated way to invoke LLMs into any text input on your Mac. Specifically, you can type bracketed phrases {such as this}, press Shift-Command-K (or a different shortcut of your choosing), and the tool sends your bracketed phrase + the...

Re:Pear AI founder: We made two big mistakes on Monday September 30, 2024 @05:15PM (#41702211)
you're obviously joking, but it'd be interesting if you actually tried :)

people seem so caught up in founders' particular ideas at the pre-seed stage and forget that YC is investing in people - specifically: people who try. you can jokingly quip that you'd be better at forking vs code, but at the end of the day they're doing it - not "waiting for their check" - and you're making fun of them on the internet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Show HN: I made an open-source Chrome extension to visualize NBA player stats

https://www.visual-stats.com/

Hi HN,I love both basketball and the NBA, but one thing that's always frustrated me as a basketball fan in the Internet age is how most websites with player career statistics default to text tables for displaying stats. It just seems so obvious that this data should be presented in line chart form: it's much quicker and easier to grasp a player’s career trajectory when you can literally see the...

Re:Reddit Launches Long-Awaited IPO with $748M Target on Monday March 11, 2024 @09:06AM (#39667720)
yes, we should be celebrating this. also, 1) cash comp was $1m and the $190m equity grant vests over 10 years, 2) see the comment posters username - are we surprised by this take? lol

nice, congrats on shipping
seems to be unnecessary criticism?
if you want it, build it :)
ignore the naysayers; nice job building out your idea

haven't used tailwind before - why is it particularly helpful for UI color palettes?
Re:Prestige in US Today on Thursday November 05, 2020 @10:03AM (#24998823)
Sure, but you can avoid lifestyle inflation while still knowing your worth. At €9,000 / month (> €50 / hr), 2+ hours spent trying to save €100 just isn't the best use of your time.
My quick thoughts on a VC case: it's a $100M revenue company at ~500k sales / year. There's apparently 144M podcast listeners in the US, so you need 0.34% of that population to purchase your product each year. That may be an aggressive assumption, but investors also may think 'podcasts are a huge and growing market, even if this idea isn't the one that works out, there's a lot of potential in the "podcast creation" space'

@acnops this would be a great feature to implement in the back end to allow users to input a Youtube link rather than upload a file.
Cool product and nice landing page - clean and to the point.

Heads up: the format in which you've included links results in broken links when clicked

Re:SpaceX successfully launches two humans into orbit on Saturday May 30, 2020 @07:35PM (#23365813)
I mean the whole point of capitalism is another leader can try to do better, and if they do the market will allocate them resources. It’s not like Elon was handed spacex with 8,000 employees; he built it up.
Re:Ask HN: How to stop anxiety from too many choices? on Sunday May 10, 2020 @11:45AM (#23133506)
you yourself said the answer (reduce choices). just because it is obvious does not mean that it is not difficult. choose one thing to go deep on, and adjust as you learn more information. make sure you actually go deep though - don't just adjust as soon as things get difficult.

life is also really hard so try to have a sense of humor along the way - this is all one big game :)

Re:Turning Off Autoplaying Previews on Thursday February 06, 2020 @04:47PM (#22260724)
what causes you to say much despised? I personally enjoy thumbs up v thumbs down - I find with 5 star ratings systems people resort to extremes and usually use it like a thumbs up/down anyway (1 star or 5 star)
