So they leaked a story about Nvidia violating export restrictions in order to “blackmail” Nvidia into… obeying export restrictions? Wow, that’s some good old fashioned Trumpian 44D chess right there.
How do you imagine it working, this regulation whereby an index designed to track the 500 largest companies is required to exclude some of those just because they happen to be run by a guy you dislike?
Selection bias. Nobody blogs about and posts on Hacker News about the billions of accurate, useful, non-weird AI summaries that Google also serves every day.
Can you explain the scenario where Anthropic getting to “aligned” superintelligence first blocks their competitors from creating unaligned superintelligence?
SF is the quintessential boom town. Yet every batch of newcomers eventually thinks they have the right to be the last batch of newcomers and get to declare that the city should remain the same forever more, in its current state, perfected by their presence.
You can’t do intercity trips on California high speed rail either.
Waymo is already working, on roads today, for less time and money than it took to build zero miles of high speed rail in California.
You're being facetious, right? How is it different from regular data science?
What’s “modern” data science?
You don’t have to invest your 401k in stocks.
There’s a form of Gell-Mann amnesia at work here. Why would you expect a company that is unethical in its business practices to be ethical where it counts, in its reporting? The answer is that it isn’t.
From section 1: “In conventional rideshare (e.g., Uber and Lyft) deadheading, the miles driven without a fare-paying passenger, has been estimated to exceed 40% of the total vehicle miles traveled (VMT) (Henao et al. 2019)”
I don't know that it's that disappointing. I doubt most of the great mathematicians were actually doing it to achieve immortality. I suspect most of them were either after (possibly indirect) practical applications (via the math -> physics -> engineering pipeline) or just "for the love of the game", appreciation of the beauty of math and the intellectual joy of doing it. AI might also take over the practical application side, but the other aspects are still there for the taking.
Lol. I assume you’re being facetious. But those companies have all been at it for decades.
Yeah, poor little OpenAI. A real David vs. Goliath story.
Clickbait title. They only cut off the AI that was using Google as their crawler, which was not a good idea in the first place. I’d love to ask the developers of these AIs: what exactly did you expect to happen here?

Who do you think will win the Nobel Prizes this year?

If they’re not willing to pay up, then there isn’t really a shortage.
> positioning itself as a threshold nuclear state, and may attempt to secretly cross that threshold at any time (as North Korea did).
As Israel did.
Is (1) new? LaBerge had empirical evidence for lucid dreaming decades ago.

Many of the people who RTO will just end up spending most of their day in a phone booth on a videocalls with people in other offices anyway.
OpenAI competes with Google, so obviously the government invited them to testify about how Google is a big bully that has no competition.
Not a paradox, just a dilemma.

Why is this flagged? Seems like a reasonable take and not obviously spammy to me. Maybe overly optimistic about AI progress, but that’s debatable.
Same way you prevent humans from breaking your codebase: tests, code reviews, static analysis, etc. I agree with others that say treat AI like an intern or junior dev. They can speed you up if managed well, but need oversight. Over time the AI will get better, and will learn to learn as senior developers do.
