> While it is unclear how the temperature might have been manipulated, one possibility shared on weather forums was that a battery-powered hairdryer could have been used, according to Le Monde newspaper.
Clickbait headline FWIW.
> The payload isn't delivered as a raw binary or a Python file. It's disguised as a .wav audio file.
> The WAV file is a valid audio file. It passes MIME-type checks. But the audio frame data contains a base64-encoded payload. Decode the frames, take the first 8 bytes as the XOR key, XOR the rest, and you have your executable or Python script.
Talk about burying the lede.

Actually SIMs aren't free, they're normally $10. You can sometimes find them for $1 if you look around hard enough [1].
I've been using this plan for about a month or so and coverage has indeed been a little spotty in my area but it's good enough for my needs. If you do want to try it out here's a tip port your number: do NOT do select the option to port during the online activation process. Sign up and activate your SIM FIRST and then call in to initiate a number port request. Once you've activated and signed up for the $30 plan with a port request, there's no way to get a temporary number while waiting for the port request to complete.

Not just for police... I'd imagine event organizers would like to have just such a technology at their venues to prevent "unauthorized recording." Seems pretty useless in practice though. Couldn't you just put your phone into airplane mode?
A question for any lawyers out there: if you licensed a patent that is later invalidated, are you entitled to a refund of your licensing fee?
That drop from the mothership seems like it would make a few people sick. :)
The title is inaccurate. The article is not announcing a trailer, just a teaser poster. From the article:
> Tomorrow you will get your very first look at the battle room with the reveal of the teaser poster on Yahoo! Movies.
What are you doing to help attract sellers? Any plans for auction-style listings?
Seems to be a fraud deterrent. I once had an eBay listing that was "purchased" by a Nigerian scammer. Buyers need to have a reputation system as well in a viable eBay replacement.
Not only are the canisters "not disposable", they also are not the property of the purchaser of a SodaStream device. Instead, canisters remain property of SodaStream and are licensed to the purchaser.

Truly a sad end to a great game. The Glitch player community had some of the most friendly people that I've ever met and I had a great time both playing the game and developing against their API[1]. I think what really killed their momentum was pulling the game back into private beta[2]. Quite a few players left after that and the game obviously never recovered.

The original article (
http://www.zdnet.com/microsoft-radically-overhauls-license-a...) seems to suggest that the full-price retail version is gone entirely:
"This last type replaces the outmoded and overpriced full package product and represents a significant and positive change in the way Microsoft licenses Windows."
Has anybody else received similar information?
Very skeptical about this -- mostly because not only is the connector different, but the headphone jack has moved from the top of the phone to the bottom.
So, how are you supposed to pronounce the name of your project?

Like others have said, I would work on building your portfolio. One way to do this is to donate some web development work to a non-profit in your area -- hopefully one that is well-known in the community. Not only will this give you something to add to your portfolio, but it will also give you an idea of any underdeveloped skills that you need to work on.
I would say that the "Choose Plan" buttons are a little more than "inspiration". In fact, they're exact copies:

In many ways, I think the Apple Store has now become a victim of its own success. Recent discussions on HN and elsewhere mention confusion with the how to actually buy something at the store when all the blue shirts are busy. Most of the stores that I have visited recently are packed with people making it hard for those new to the store to browse and explore. It will be interesting to see what Apple does to address these problems as its stores get even more popular and congested.
If somebody else is creating a petition that is coherent and gramatically correct and I will sign it immediately. A petition like this will never be taken seriously and this one actually makes the arument that software is patentable in the first sentence. I would do it but this site states that creating a similar petition will lessen the possiblity of receiving an official response so I don't want to duplicate work somebody else is already doing.
