Their characterization of the US govt as "a politically desperate administration" intending to "sway[] people and media attention away from their own violence and warmongering" sounds on point to me. The good news is that the administration is desperate and that they know they lack popular support for their life-denying actions; the scary thing is that this will certainly not be the last dumb thing they do out of desperation.

I suppose I'm not the only one wondering whether this could replace Calibre for me. Most features seem to be there, but will it allow me to sync ebooks to my Kobo device?

Yes, there are many lovely people, but it is best not to romanticize the community as a whole -- it's got some issues, too: https://beautifulracket.com/appendix/why-i-no-longer-contrib...
I use ActivityLog2 which also reads FIT files.

I didn't realize that Newsboat has Miniflux support! That means you can read your feeds from the console and keep everything in sync with the web interface or any other client software. I will try this out later.

It's just for sqlite databases.
Congrats! Is this a portable ebook or is it somehow tied to the Kindle?

(Small correction: you mean "translation" instead of "tradition")

This is something cultural sociologists study. See for instance https://www.thomasfranssen.net/sociology-of-culture though I'm sure there are more recent examples as well.
