Re:OMSCS Open Courseware on Saturday December 06, 2025 @10:53PM (#46179012)
This is how I've done it. Some courses have short lectures from 30s to 2.5min which can be annoying

You can download the lectures from many of the courses, but not all, from the site.

Used this book in the network science course at Georgia Tech, it was really good (the class and the book).

Maybe something like Heroku?

What?

Thanks for recommending that app. Looks pretty great
The present kind of does as well
In that case I usually just leave if it's not a site I absolutely have to use
For what it's worth, I didn't think that was edgy. Sometimes it's a good idea to think about worse case scenarios
Re:How to Survive a Car Crash in 10 Easy Steps on Monday May 15, 2023 @03:00AM (#35944659)
I know someone who was killed by this exact situation. No other injuries (that I'm aware of) for anyone else in the car. Their skull was broken
NewPipe is great. I haven't tried ReVanced in a few months because it was a bit buggy. Has it improved?
Re:How Paris Is Taking Back Its Streets from Cars on Friday April 28, 2023 @08:02PM (#35748636)
I've lived there for most of my life and was riding my bike at around the same time and my experience was very different. Every day I'd have people purposefully try to run me off the road while I was biking and some cities in LA don't allow you to ride a bike on the sidewalk. Your experience definitely depends on which part(s) of LA you're in

What? How so? Why?

I love it. Not only is this wholesome, it's pretty cool too
That sounds like a good use case. How making it optional?
Is there a way to register without it also creating a WordPress account?
I just started part 1 and had no idea part 2 was coming out. This looks great
Anecdotally, I've had many Uber drivers who are engineers/software developers
Re:Ask HN: Alternatives to SMS? on Friday March 24, 2023 @05:47PM (#35296085)
Is there a demand for such thing? At least in my circle, yes. Other than that I'm not sure.
Re:Ask HN: Alternatives to SMS? on Friday March 24, 2023 @04:08AM (#35286346)
These are the problems that I've noticed with the messaging apps that you just mentioned. There are other problems that are driving the people in my circle away from Signal, so if no one else is using it then I don't see how it will benefit me. I'll keep the app because a couple of people in my circle are still using it, but its utility has diminished now. Thank you.
Re:Ask HN: Alternatives to SMS? on Friday March 24, 2023 @03:16AM (#35286017)
Yeah, I've never been happy with the fact Signal requires phone numbers as an ID. Beyond the privacy issues, there's also issues that I've encountered when someone used Signal (on iOS) and then stopped using it. Once they stopped using it, others who were still using Signal weren't able to message that person anymore outside of group messages. Honestly, the whole thing is a mess. Thank you.

Ask HN: Alternatives to SMS?

With Signal dropping support for SMS on Android[0], what are some alternatives to Signal? I'm looking for something similar to Signal, but supports SMS. Over time, I've convinced friends and family to convert to Signal because of its privacy-oriented features and ease-of-use. However, now that Signal will be dropping SMS support, it will be unusable for the people who I recommended it to. What...

I used to do this (for about a week), but I'm in school and am constantly learning new things and ways of doing stuff and quickly got overwhelmed. How do you separate the wheat from the chaff and focus on worthwhile topics?

They still go out of their way to accommodate him. His Twitter and Facebook accounts have been reactivated
In my experience, nothing beats solving problems. Even if you get help via solution manuals. I went from being a B/A student to top of my classes (engineering) by solving many problems. I would do my homework and then go back before exams and redo the homework twice for a total of solving the problems 3 times. Never failed me. I actually managed to get a perfect score from a professor who wrote notoriously difficult exams where a 50% to 60% was curved to be a B
