No idea. I built something for this though https://metaweather.com

Since last year the BBC is back using the Met Office https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crm4z8mple3o
Re:Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU on Saturday August 29, 2026 @12:19PM (#49491142)
I've attended a few UK vote counts. Pencil is also used - but you can bring your own pen if you'd like.

I think it's mainly to prevent smudges as the paper is folded to be put into the ballot box. Pencils are also more reliable than pens, and have a longer shelf life between votes, I'd imagine?

At the polling stations & counts I've been to and overseen there is pretty much zero opportunity (or interest) in changing people's votes on the papers. I'd imagine this is the same in most first-world countries. In fact, once I spotted and got corrected a paper missed for a candidate opposing the candidate I was a counting agent for.

Re:Zohran and the Short Link on Thursday August 27, 2026 @06:22AM (#49462456)
bbc.co.uk/thing is the standard for URLs used like this at the BBC, and it works great there too. The ubiquity of BBC URLs on audio/video in the UK helps.

Here's what it was like beforehand. Laughable! https://youtu.be/MEN8KvEuYhE?t=54

Instant tribal labelling - a great example of my point. Nicely done.

I'm off to do some property damage, incite racial hatred and predict civil war to live up to my new moniker :)

Brexit divided and continues to cause paralysis. Soft, hard, or no-deal? Simplistic binary vote specified no mechanism, destination, or future relationship. Leave and remain have completely incompatible visions for post-Brexit Britain.

Along with (IMHO) a polycrisis of far-right immigration agitation, post-COVID stagnation, high energy costs, NHS/social care strain, housing/planning hell, lack of infrastructure investment.

We're not in a great place and, to your point, there is no clear way out.

Yes, I take that expensive and poorly performing train every month or so. It's cheaper and easier to take the car sometimes, unfortunately.

Do they have prominent blogs that are good to read to keep up in the industry you work in?
Re:The time filter in Google Search broke a few days ago on Sunday August 02, 2026 @07:14AM (#49143349)
It's annoyingly disconcerting. A simple database row count apparently now difficult in 2026.

Good point - updated. Thanks!

It's not very good - late around half the time.

Re:Workers Cache on Monday July 06, 2026 @10:34AM (#48805255)
The previous Worker in-front of the cache never made sense to my old school proxy in-front of the appserver mindset. Already using this to speed up a tool. Nice work.

Charities in the UK are regulated by three separate gov organisations - all with not great websites.

I'm building a quick and clear search across all of them plus, I believe uniquely, their regulatory filing PDFs and websites.

Somewhere between 6-9% of total retail electricity spend. So, not almost nothing.
Re:GeoJSON on Friday May 08, 2026 @12:37PM (#48065462)
Have been using geojson for a while and was frustrated at lack of simple web tools play with it in browser. So I built https://geojson.page

That website (for me) uses Cloudflare via WPEngine, which also isn't Azure
Re:An Update on GitHub Availability on Tuesday April 28, 2026 @06:58AM (#47932753)
Prime video uses a non-AWS CDN when I watch football on it here in the UK

Seems pretty sensible to not rely on a single provider for their large complex system?
