Re:Ask HN: Are you tired too in this AI era? on Friday October 30, 2026 @06:52AM (#50302233)
Looks like written by an LLM, but it gives a realistic picture. The investors breathing down your neck is something that you don't want in this age, though.

Na, if you do a startup and commit no mistakes, you did not work hard enough. Mistakes are part of an entrepreneur's journey.

It was cheaper to get a pizza delivered before these delivery companies popped up.

I don't know, I cannot look into their head. Why don't you just write that you don't want people to comment that way, that would be more honest.
Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:19PM (#50291504)
They probably comment things like "I don't get why people use these services", because they don't get why people use these services. I honestly do not understand the point of your comment.
Who cares? On 26 March 2019 the European Parliament voted 410 to 192 in favor of dropping the DST requirement in the EU by 2021.

Nothing happend. All talk, no action, as I wrote above.

The EU again is all talk and no action on this topic. 84% said in a poll to get rid of it back in 2018, parliament voted to end it by 2021. But here we are at the end of 2026 turning the clocks back again. Next march same thing. Honestly at this point I don't think it will ever happen, they will still be "discussing"it in 2040.

Why does Opus 5.5 immediately block when I enter this, even when explicitly say it is a quote that was written on Hackernews? What makes it allergic to that sentence?
I had to look it up and maybe it helps others understand: Shaquille O'Neal was bad at shooting threes and only made one three-pointer in his entire professional career (he attempted 22).
You probably cannot imagine how bad some people are at singing. I have people near me who sing completely out of tune, so much that it hurts. I am not an Apple guy, so I cannot test the app myself, but I will definitely send the link at least to those who know themselves that they are terrible at singing, hoping that Christmas will be less painful for my ears this year.
> Because Germany has laws specifically to ban parties that are shown not to be working in the best interest of the people

The laws don't work like that, otherwise we arguably would not have any parties left.

It is not a roadster. A roadster is defined as an open-air, two-seat convertible.

This one is a hard-top super-coupe and I recommend calling it the "Cyberwedge"

He is a technical manager at Anthropic, so what do you expect?
Re:Felix Rieseberg Homepage on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @03:25AM (#50083715)
The view from his window is from Warschauer Brücke in Berlin Friedrichshain or nearby. I have fond memories living there and working on my software day and night.

I love the website, but one thing scares me in his list of projects:

I have a very strong opinion about everything not having the 2.5D viewing mode as TA cannot be a worthy successor for TA. The 2.5D mode was part of the fun.
Don't ask and dance as long as the music keeps playing.

They are really good at generating artifacts, which are windows within the replies containing all kind of visualization, often interactive.

They are still not great at SVG. I just asked Opus and Fable to add a background to an SVG and the results were, well, not great.

Re:I'm the AGI that's wiping out humanity on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @03:04PM (#49982627)
> Do you know how bad things have to be, for a mammal to voluntarily decide not to reproduce?

Actually, the famous 'Mouse Utopia' experiment (Universe 25) arguably showed the exact opposite. The population collapsed despite abundance of food and water without any economic hardship.

You can try to replace women with bots, as those Chinese dating apps showed a few years ago:

Re:Replacing the old battery on rechargeable bike lights on Sunday September 27, 2026 @12:15PM (#49868039)
Younger people probably do not know how bad rechargeable lights were in the past. In the 90s I bough a set of lights for my bicycle that I could directly plug into a 230V socket and I kid you not the battery lasted for less than 15 minutes, which was just one way from my appartment to the pool where I was training at night. I had to ride back without any light until I finally bought a new dynamo. There was not really much progress until lithium batteries suddenly solved many problem.

> They rarely fail and do their job even in damp environments. I take care of my better half's hotel with approx 100 of these installed and we replace one of these once every couple of years.

I had to replace about half of them within the first ten years of usage in our floor heating. It may have been a bad batch, but I would definitely not claim that the rarely fail. My car did not fail once during that time.

Despite not being in the EU, Norway is European without the slightest doubt.

Re:The asteroid currently hitting front end web development on Friday September 04, 2026 @02:36AM (#49561250)
Since a good LLM can handle any of those 40 web frameworks, I think having 40 web frameworks is becoming less of a problem than it used to be. Actually, implementing ideas in an individual manner will become easier. Remember the Bazaar and the Cathedral? The Bazaar kind of failed on the client side, but LLMs may revive it.
Re:Hacking IKEA Furniture on Monday August 31, 2026 @01:14AM (#49505855)
>For those of you who look down on IKEA furniture, I'd like to hear about what alternatives you think need mentioning.

I do not look down at IKEA, but there are things I would buy at IKEA and things I would not. For example I would not buy a sofa from IKEA. For this in Germany I found Bolia, who offer higher quality Scandinavian furniture with a not too outrageous pricetag.

In 1991 Audi presented the Quattro Spyder, which had a detachable solar roof. The idea was to run a fan to prevent overheating of the interior.

And now they won't to power the entire car with energy from solar cells on the car? I have my doubts.
