I think the idea with having a personal assistant / house help / cleaner is that you spend money so you can be doing more of what you like to do (and/or to some extent also what makes money). If you already enjoy everything in your life, you shouldn't hire one.
Re:Burning Man Death Rates – A Short Lesson in Statistics on Thursday October 01, 2026 @05:18AM (#49919516)
I'm also curious if you 'died at Burning Man' if you're attending BM, fell ill, made it to a hospital and then died.

It works fine now.
Re:GPT-6 Astra on Friday September 04, 2026 @05:20AM (#49562312)
Is that alone really a better metric? At least in Europe a lot of people travel during holidays, so there's less risk breaking into city flats because they're empty.
Re:Sick leave: Germany rising but not the worst in Europe on Saturday July 04, 2026 @02:55PM (#48787862)
That's the whole point, before they would only need to do it on the fourth day of sickness, now you need to go to a doctor on the first day. More workload for doctors and either sick people coming to the office infecting others, or getting the whole week off immediately.

I guess it depends on who you ask, Anthropic says 99.26%: https://status.claude.com
Re:Claude Code Routines on Wednesday April 15, 2026 @04:49AM (#47776377)
I have the same sentiments, but I also get a lot of value out of simple things like memory for long-term project planning and task management. I'm willing to commit to one provider right now with the assumption that memories (and now routines) can be ported within a few hours to a new provider (for example Claude Desktop provides a prompt to export memories from other providers). Also the memory being human readable (markdown files) makes me worry less about lock-in.
It complements https://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/ nicely. As someone not living in the US, I'd find it interesting to at least have some other non-US cities available in the free plan though.
Re:Travel in Style. UniFi Style. UniFi Travel Router on Tuesday December 23, 2025 @01:20PM (#46367724)
Did anyone see a price mentioned? It would be nice to have a travel router that just plugs into your UniFi network.
I got gifted Computer Engineering for Babies and big Babies last Christmas in preparation for having our first child :) They are great!
Re:Figma and Adobe are abandoning our proposed merger on Monday December 18, 2023 @09:58AM (#38683331)
Being on the receiving side of that can be very frustrating. Even though users can cancel easily and without any human interaction, they cancel their credit card which then costs us multiple months of revenue in cancellation fees.
Instead of allowing 24 hours, I prefer to agree on a start time with the candidate, schedule the email to go out at that time and expect to receive the reply two hours later. That way everyone has the same amount of time.
Messaging apps like WhatsApp will save to your photo library though (unless disabled).

So any photo sent to you would be scanned. If you someone sent you a bunch of files, that might trigger a manual review, that would most likely flag your account.

I wouldn't expect that immediately deleting them would stop the review process.

I only had issues so far when I accidentally didn’t convert the signed page back to an image.
Re:Hardware Microphone Disconnect in Mac and iPad on Friday April 03, 2020 @08:50AM (#22768656)
Just a warning (I don’t know the specs of that ThinkPad) but just because it’s a physical switch doesn’t mean it actually physically disconnects the device.
Re:Guide to running Elasticsearch in production on Sunday February 23, 2020 @04:25PM (#22399641)
I can't answer for cloakandswagger, but GPs comment sounded to me like this blog post is missing something essential because it doesn't talk about security.

This isn't an expensive course on setting up the perfect ES cluster in production.

As someone who is currently planning to set up a substantial ES cluster, I'm very grateful for someone to write up their learnings in such a compact overview.

Re:What Is Color Management? on Monday January 20, 2020 @12:02PM (#22100196)
Isn't that what Apple's "True Tone" is about? (I just know of that one, but probably there's something similar on Android devices)

Re:AWS Customers Rack Up Hefty Bills for Moving Data on Tuesday October 22, 2019 @01:54AM (#21320721)
But in all fairness, if you actually implement that ”best practice” HA infrastructure, you will also be miles ahead of almost all internal IT departments.
It takes fuel (onboard) + oxygen (environment) to create the CO2. I assume that’s where the additional mass comes from.

Re:Name one thing in this photo on Friday April 26, 2019 @03:56AM (#19755567)
I'm only reading about people getting really uncomfortable looking at this (on reddit).

To me it did nothing, although I also couldn't recognise any of the items in the picture.

Does anyone else have the same experience?

Re:When to Buy Your Own ISBNs on Friday January 25, 2019 @08:39AM (#18997746)
The FAQ of the company responsible for selling ISBNs in Germany (1000 ISBNs cost ~310 EUR incl. VAT here) states that the country of the publisher is the decisive factor on where to buy the ISBNs. So if a book written by the author got translated to German, would he have to buy a German ISBN?

Otherwise he could just acquire all his ISBNs in Canada for free?

I was just thinking how a terminal web browser gets you laid :)

resmio (https://www.resmio.com) – Berlin, Germany (ONSITE, VISA)

Founded 11/2011, we're doing marketing automation (newsletters, yield management, simplified SEM) and a CRM & table plan for restaurants. In short, helping restaurants getting online.

We're looking for an iOS developer who is able to enhance/clean up/rewrite our existing iPad app made by freelancers. You will be the only iOS developer in the team (8 developers right now) and working with our designer on improving the app. Our backend stack is based on Heroku, Django, Postgres, Redis and some Go.

The resmio office is in the heart of Kreuzberg. While being a growing team (currently ~25 employees), there's still plenty of room to express yourself and shape the whole company culture with your ideas!

We'll help with any potential visa / work permit issues.

Our jobs page: https://www.resmio.com/jobs/

Contact: [email protected] (or me directly at [email protected])

Actually, is there some analysis on that?

I always suspected that, with all the high-tech equipment, after the initial stockpile is gone (and a few hundred planes is not a lot if you look at WW2), it's much harder to scale up production (if one country alone even produces all the necessary parts like semiconductors, rocket engines, etc.).
