Louis Rossman is a good one although it’s pretty focused on MacBook repairs.
Exactly that!
Also I do appreciate the feedback, I have tamed down the ads on the site- I’m usually behind my pihole so didn’t realise quite how annoying they were.
Whilst the ad revenue normally doesn’t even cover the hosting costs of the site - which isn’t even expensive! It does give me the motivation to write more content.

If you don’t like ads feel free to use an Adblock - I use https://adblockplus.org/

If you want to buy a Pi for a very low price you could even setup pihole: https://pi-hole.net/

There’s nothing misleading when I say I’m not doing this to make a quick buck. I’m really not it’s just a lockdown project as there really isn’t much else to do in my spare time.

I’d love too! Maybe one day once the pandemic is over.
Thanks for the share!

Exactly!

It’s in the article. 4.15 compiled specifically for the onboard SOC. It’s not a Debian kernel.

I tried that, it refused to execute armel binaries however arm64 worked fine.

I’m not sure if it’s a bug or something I was doing wrong but I gave up and just finished the install on the device.

The board already has spi flash but it’s only 8 or 16mb. Enough for buildroot or maybe openwrt but Debian ain’t going to fit in there.
Re:Running Debian on a 32MB RAM Single Core ARM SBC on Friday January 01, 2021 @09:36AM (#25603522)
It doesn’t, it’s Linux only for now. Unless someone builds uboot for bsd. Even then there would be a huge amount of work to do to get it running stable.
Re:Running Debian on a 32MB RAM Single Core ARM SBC on Friday January 01, 2021 @09:33AM (#25603502)
I remember running it on this cheap iomega NAS drive around the same time. Very similar specs although it had a SATA controller.

I agree, or even something like openwrt. This was just to see if it could be done, it’s not the most practical OS for the hardware but it runs pretty well!
My mistake, sorry!
Re:ITX Motherboard with an Elbrus CPU on Monday December 28, 2020 @03:46PM (#25563026)
Back then these were designed specifically for government agencies within Russia. Suppliers weren’t allowed to ship them outside of Russia unless you could prove it was for certain research projects. I found someone that was willing to buy a Elbrus motherboard and ship it to me, it got stuck at Russian customs and returned to the sender - fortunately he managed to return it to the supplier and I got my money back.

I agree, the bootloader is a massive shame! Personally I’d rather go with a power9 based board. But let’s see where this goes, it’s certainly interesting.
