A little context on this post - I've been collecting and cleaning the Australian public record (Hansard) for a little while and have been implementing knowledge bases recently and thought it was worth while smashing it all together into a single resource.

The intent is to collect, label and summarize as much publically available data related to Australian politics and provide useful lenses with which to view the evidence, rather than opinion or cherry picked data.

Would love any feedback/points into directions of data that we could ingest!

I did a bit more reading and noticed in the WebAIM stats that Narrator usage is indeed on the rise. Given that it is included in the OS, I would hope that it ends up as the defacto standard in much the same way as VoiceOver is for macOS.

I completely agree with you. At the very least it could be a feature you opt in to. Would help a ton with the issue of fragmentation as well.

What exactly are you doing?

A lot of high school kids, some in Australia were in the top warez groups back in the day.

Very few people with full time jobs had the time to be super active in the 'scene'. It was almost entirely highschool and college students.

The entire userbase doesn't matter that much. The majority of reddit users don't contribute any decent content.

Keeping the minority of users that are actually producing content happy is what they have failed to do and is the real risk - if there's nothing to look at, the rest of the userbase will follow the content somewhere else.

The outcry was over a female employee being fired. The pattern you're seeing is more likely than not sheer coincidence.

I'm not airing anything except I think her article was bitter - you can read into that until the cows come home.

Personally I don't feel that airing someones dirty laundry on a huge website is an appropriate venue. Isn't this exactly what support groups like AlAnon and therapy aim to address in a more delicate manner?

She claims to be ashamed to admit to a periodontist that her husband died of alcohol related causes...

Then proceeds to describe on a hugely trafficked website how he urinated in a basement sink every night and left her with $64,000 of credit card debt.

I have no desire to shame anyone, it's written now - again I simply stated that it felt bitter to me. Having spent 15 minutes reading her blog, it seems that is a reasonable description of her current mental state.

I wasn't excusing anything, simply stating that perhaps airing ones dirty laundry - particularly about a dead person - in a newspaper no less, just seems bitter.

What a bitter, twisted thing to write about a dead person.

It seems her husbands problems have become a large part of her identity, and what greater way to feel better than write an opinion piece about how shitty he was in the NYT?

Do you think WebRTC is a good enough selling point to have somewhere on the main page?

Regarding open source, we may go down that route quite soon - the code could use some refactoring (this is a pet project for 2 people with jobs ;)

We haven't got a real desire to make money off this in the short term. It's simply for fun and we hope that a community can form around the site.

You completely missed their point, how you can't see that is beyond me.

It's the condescending way you write that makes you seem like an asshole... i.e saying "Hahahahah" all the time - I don't particularly disagree with your points but the insulting tone is unnecessary, don't you think?

No one is talking about minimizing it's importance.

If anything, you're trying to 'minimize the importance' of the enslavement of people in practically every civilization on earth, for generations before the US was founded and still continuing today.

At the end of the day though, that's what the site owner wants, I just don't understand your vitriolic responses to people questioning it.

How can you possibly make this generalisation? On IRC, people can assume whatever they like. Everyone might as well be naked running around doing the tango, if that is how that person chooses to see those users.

It's not.

You're right one one point - programmers do consider themselves to be rational. IRC is one place where biases simply don't exist by definition, because why would they? Nothing defining anything exists unless you explicitly want it to.

I find it extremely irking that you keep trying to insinuate that literally every person on IRC thinks of each other as a 'white male' like you describe. This reveals a problem, not systemic, but in yourself.

Why do you need to tell people your gender on a communications medium that doesn't require you to? I don't consider anyone to be male or female on IRC, they're just users.

The thing I always loved about IRC was that even when I was 12 years old, people took me seriously, not because I was male, or white, or an adult, but because I was thoughtful and intelligent - age in this case being the key differentiating factor.

Disgusting sexist people exist. If you tell them your gender they may well attack you for it, because they are terrible people. What are we debating here? The only assertion I've made is that IRC is inherently gender neutral by definition.

Saying his personal experience proves anything about IRC as a medium is a stretch.

No requirement exists to give your gender or a name that may reveal a gender. That, by any definition, is 'gender neutral'.

If someone makes assumptions about other people it's their own issue, it has nothing to do with what is essentially an anonymous medium. I really didn't think it needed 'proving'.

Like overgard said in a comment replying to your original post, you appear to be offended because someone used the word bro.

If that is the case, my belief is that ethically, your personal experience in this matter does not invalidate the use of a word across an entire culture. Like I implied in my previous comment, where does the buck stop with this type of censorship?

Using your logic, why don't we just get rid of the word 'frat' while we're at it, since you've had such a bad experience with people associated with them. Do you see the slippery slope you're on here?

I'm glad we live in a society where everything isn't geared to appease people like you. Those that I do have compassion for are people with real issues, not feigned concern over the name of an application you had nothing to do with being a word that might trigger a panic attack because you got your ass beat in college.

Maybe you should try therapy for that.
