very meta; the point of this s-1 is you dont need talent anymore

Rob: They're not real. You get that, right? None of it is real. The critics aren't real. The customers aren't real. Because... this isn't real.

Chef Finway: [laughing awkwardly] Okay...

Rob: Derek, why do you care about these people? They don't care about you. None of them. They don't even know you because you haven't shown them. Every day, you'll wake up, and there'll be less of you. You live your life for them, and they don't even see you. You don't even see yourself.

[long pause; Derek's tight smile has slowly faded into a look of sorrow and regret]

Rob: We don't get a lot of things to really care about.

none of the things you listed are needed for personal apps, for personal apps you dont need internet, at worse you just need dyndns.

in the netherlands there is this app Uw Zorg Online for contacting your GP

it is hard to type in your pin code because it misses touch events, I always get my pin wrong

every time I use it I contemplate how did we end up here, how can we have software running on supercomputers in our hands missing touch events

the sad truth is vibe coded programs are better than most programs I use

Re:Tesla takes on $30B in credit as it approaches unprofitability on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @02:04AM (#49904982)
when I say EVs need less maintenance I mean things like cylinder honing or clutch slipping.

do people actually think you buy a tesla and just drive?

I am working on changing the bushings and seals on the forks, and the diagrams are correct, I have them completely disassembled, and tbh I dont think I would've been able to have good mental model of them just from the manual.

The brakes also seem correct and the electrical as well, the starter relay relay assembly and fuses at least seem correct. I have not open the engine itself yet so cant confirm. But I will do a shim check soon, so I will let you know :)

ha damn Astra made the same for my bike (TDM 850) https://punkx.org/tdm850 even posted it to HN but didnt pick up.

I think its amazing to be able to do such vizualizations in 30 minutes or so.

This is approaching Tony Stark making badassium level of tooling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddk9ci6geSs

Show HN: Yamaha TDM 850 3vd 1993 Atlas (made with Astra)

https://punkx.org/tdm850/

I recently bought 1993 TDM 850 and I love it, but its an old bike and it needed some TLC, I bought the haynes manual and the found the partlist and used Astra to create an interactive atlas.I am working on the front forks now to change the bushings and seals, and I dont think I would've been able to do it without the interactive visualization, the partlist was not detailed enough and the manual...

their point is while the 'group' wins, the rest of the world loses.

localized gains, distributed loss.

> then hundreds of dollars to service when they break

Can you explain what do you mean by that? It is quite rare to see broken trrs jack on a laptop, at least I have never experienced one, nor on walkman or anything getting heavy plug/unplug use.

I thought it is an issue in reducing the cost to manufacture the case or something.

depends, I would say it is not safe for work as it makes you question what are you doing there :)

its phenomenology porn

Can you imagine in few years getting Fable level intelligence at 20k tokens per second?

"You are not prepared" --Illidan Stormrage

In the next decade open hardware will win, any machine that exposes itself to be programmed by its user will be infinitely better than a machine that doesn't.

From keyboards to phones to tractors.

The appstore will die, and the walled gardens will die.

Unless they use 'for the children' to make open machines illegal.

I am starting to seriously consider switching my pi-hole from blacklist to whitelist; block everything except few domains. I am convinced now most of the text I read is either ai generated, or people who wrote it have been influenced by AI so much that they write like it.

I cant read this shit anymore.

"creating cross functional AI evaluation team to keep the company honest"

Fucking garbage.

I have an old book between me and the keyboard, and just read it while the AI is thinking, so I can read non AI words.. otherwise its like reading books by the same author over and over and over again.

I will go touch some grass now.

> It's the same tech that's scalable to a certain limit of diminishing return.

of course, my point was that gpt3->4o was smaller jump than opus 4.6->fable

Re:Rewriting Bun in Rust on Thursday July 09, 2026 @07:32AM (#48844201)
yes, I assume we will have the 'replicator' from Star Trek, and programs will just appear as you want them.

experiencing the gpt3->4o->sonnet4->opus4.6->fable trajectory I am fairly confident what we call programmer today will not exist, in the same time regular people will finally be able to tell computers what to do and this will unlock the next stage of complexity in manufacturing/material science/medicine and so on.

of course I am likely wrong, people say: its never as good or as bad as you think.

Re:Rewriting Bun in Rust on Thursday July 09, 2026 @05:57AM (#48843399)
the elastic demand will be consumed by ai

jevon's paradox just says people will consume more software as software gets cheaper, which is likely true, not that there will be more high paid jobs for programmers.

as programmers are not the resource, the program is the resource, programmers were the means of production of said resource.

stated differently: in a world where you dont need programmers to make programs, there is infinity of programs, and no jobs for programmers.

I vibecoded https://punkx.org/apl/learn.html [1] its good slow entry into gnu-apl, at least it got me to be able to make tictactoe, vibecoded or not, it helped me to start.

I am amazed how quickly APL changed the way I think.

Also strongly recommend watching Aaron Hsu on youtube.

There is no better time to re-learn programming, try APL, Forth, LISP, z80 machine code, UXN TAL, just try new things.

"Men are born soft and supple; dead they are stiff and hard. Plants are born tender and pliant; dead, they are brittle and dry. Thus whoever is stiff and inflexible is a disciple of death. Whoever is soft and yielding is a disciple of life. The hard and stiff will be broken. The soft and supple will prevail."
