"Doesn't seem conclusive"? I find it hard to believe you could read that table you linked to and claim that speed limits are not effective. Most of the data presented show double digit correlations between speed limit changes and fatalities!

Cars merging in front of you is mainly a problem for human drivers; it's frustrating, but the actual time lost is probably negligible. An automatic car wouldn't care -- maintaining safety is more important than shaving a few seconds off your commute.

Only now I realised they shut down Google Code Search. I tried searching something in an Open Source project recently. The search box on Google Code was still there, but it always returned 0 results... It's quite annoying when they just remove a feature and the only way you find out is by browsing Hacker News.

While I agree that C (and C++, and Obj-C) have some problems that make it really easy to write completely buggy software, I wouldn't go as far as blaming programming languages for buggy apps.
Plus, I don't understand why people keep praising XMonad for its lack of bugs. It has some bugs that are quite annoying (eg. stuck windows that don't close, locked with only one tile on a screen) -- on the other hand, I've never seen a bug in metacity.
