Where did "e" get declared at? It just seems to leap magically into existence.
They are a step backward. They try to make a complicated thing look simple. That is always a mistake.
I like the verbosity of anon classes, they make sense. They look right in the debugger. Lambdas do not look clear they look like vodoo, I very much dislike them and wish they'd never been introduced.
Eclipse's debugger can be configured to show a refined output. The controls are in the upper right in the Debug Perspective. Programmers who make applications are not programmers who write IDE's. If I'd noticed this I don't know if I'd recognized it or dug into it more to understand it but a snarky comment like the one I replied to is not appropriate or helpful.
Why are there so many Haskell articles on HN? It seems like nearly every day there's one or more Haskell articles yet in the real world I've run into one guy in decades that even knew it.
It's reassuring of the human condition that these two stick with it through thick and thin. Charting a course to success even when the medical expert(s) said otherwise.
>> But the idea that this was a thunderbolt of inspiration that hit notch with the best idea ever that then changed the world is just fantasy.
It was a series of thunderbolts and Notch and the whole Mojang gang are freaking geniuses in my opinion.
Yep that's what I was thinking, "Thirty-five blocks of Broadway were destroyed".
Truly amazing! I wonder what would happen to a large city like that if in a blackout for 3 days.
Actually the real problem is people who have your attitude about the problem.
Aging does not necessarily stop the ability to learn anything new. You cited your dad so I'll cite mine, he taught himself assembly programming for fun when he was in his late 60's. He lived to be 75 but always challenged himself to learn and do new things.
"There is solid evidence that neurogenesis (birth of brain cells) occurs in the adult, mammalian brain—and such changes can persist well into old age."

Here's another case cited in the same article above, "His father’s story was firsthand evidence that a ‘late recovery’ could occur even with a massive lesion in an elderly person."

I've been playing with WebGL demos on Ubuntu for years, first Chrome then Firefox. It isn't new. You might also be impressed to find out that Steam is on Linux now too.

I retract my earlier comment, this is cheesy at best Intel. Sad. Still kowtowing to the Gates regime.
This is really big. We might now upgrade to the next Roku with Netflix running in Chrome on Linux, fast, now an Intel CPU device, really cool.
"Hi, I don't think anyone from google is even looking at this since we have no resolution"
What's up with this Google?
>> resume didn't work
I still sometimes have to use Windows for work and resume/hibernate works about half the time. The other half I have to power reset it. That's with HP, Dell and Lennovo running Windows 7.
FYI:

I'm guessing here but I bet the picture for sleep/hibernate ain't all rosy for Macs either.
What version of Ubuntu? If it's 12 then you might need to do what I did for my new PC a year ago to get the latest drivers:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack
That fixed the only issue I had which was with the 1 Gig ethernet. Now I'm on stock 14 and of course it has all the newer drivers already.
>> If you are looking for a locked-down consumer appliance of a computer then linux really isn't for you.
As other have pointed out System 76 targets Linux. I've got an old Dell that shipped with Ubuntu, still works great. Someone else mentioned their new series for Ubuntu, search on the Dell site.
I use the proprietary drivers for nVidia on Ubuntu, always have, works great.
I never [bought] a Mac, always looked like a control freak's dream, a step down from even Windows, let alone Linux.
I propose that going into space is a worthy endeavor on its own without the need to find aliens. The journey of exploration enables us to invent new things that often help our lives on Earth.

Why is it on my PC running windows or Linux, I have to sometimes reboot but not on my Android phone?
