Re:SoundCloud Raises $60 Million at $700 Million Valuation on Sunday January 26, 2014 @01:19AM (#7124119)
Congratulations to Alex, Eric and the team!

Great software, solid team and a really useful service. In the current climate, this is surprisingly undervalued at $700mn.

One of those 'penalties' for being based out of the States, I guess.

Yes.
Vote up on an AMA!
Congratulations - A great start!
Re:My First Exit on Wednesday July 03, 2013 @07:05AM (#5983693)
Kudos!
Oops, sorry!

Just dropped you a line. Thanks.

Dude, we need to talk! How can we make this happen?
Hey Thanks for checking us out :)

At the risk of arguing with you, I am surprised you thought we argued in the previous comment reply. We thought SHOwnsYou was quite thoughtful in his feedback and had gone through the app. And the response was meant to be thoughtful as well. We genuinely found it useful and tried to emote that.

Just read it again and it still didn't read as argumentative.

I am not sure what the line in the sand is, just say 'thank you' I guess. :)

Thank you.

Hey, thanks for posting :) The two of us were sitting here staring at our Google Analytics & hoping you would comment too!

"There isn't much point to casually browsing the site right now" - Correct, we just came out of private beta, so the amount of data we have and what we have done to visualize it is quite nascent.

Deeper insight - This is our biggest focus right now. People do have a way to comment via the 'Add Update' button on their posts. But most of our testers right now do this via the API so they aren't doing more than maintaining their lists.

Face - Fun! I can share some conversion numbers on this. It almost doubled. Especially the silly ones like the bird and the ManBat :P kinda help to lighten the tone.

Login/Register - There's a big bold button to register once you post your first symptom. And there's a less prominent login/register icon before you post.

Design - Thank you, but even as you saw there's so much more to do especially in the way of onboarding.

Best for Last - Problem -> Solution or Solution -> Problem. There are 3 use cases this makes a ton of sense for. And we have to work hard to demo them as soon as you come in! One of them is that when you and your girlfriend are busy, how can you track each other's issues and get the casual help you may need without taking a break from work or leaving the comfort of your couch.

Thank you for giving it a whirl and very useful feedback!

Dave is doing a fantastic job here! His 'democratic' approach is killing it. The time difference between 3.0 -> 3.1 to 3.1 -> 3.2 was really good, so happy that he's doing this! :)
Re:Hey PG: How About A Salary Survey Section? on Saturday June 01, 2013 @04:21PM (#5805797)
+1 --> Already voted you up, but somehow that didn't feel enough. The irony of this isn't lost on me :P
Re:A Personal API on Friday May 31, 2013 @07:11PM (#5801802)
Would love to show you a working example of a similar project with a public API. We have a number of users giving it a spin and would really appreciate the technical feedback. Email?
Re:A Personal API on Friday May 31, 2013 @07:04PM (#5801770)
Agree 100%! The point that's important to remember about discoverability is that it is usually mission-centric.

e.g. - you want to discover the 'right' kind of people to follow, as to have better or more entertaining or more useful or _____________ information. What is 'right' for you may not be 'right' for me, since our goals most likely aren't the same.

I love Naveen's idea (and more importantly his implemention) & will be playing with it a bit more this weekend. But, the value may not be apparent right away.

Aggregating and mining one type of data across a relationship may be more valuable. It may be that I have to track a similar set of data for myself and my significant other to make sense of the aggregates.

This looks perfect! We have been using some sort of a hackup of a bunch of different ones; thank you for this (& using the MIT license)!

Ok, that looks good! I wonder if LayerVault will put out a DMCA notice for this as well :P
Re:Real-Time Yammer Competitor Hall Launches New Apps on Thursday February 07, 2013 @02:08PM (#5183914)
About time! Besides the hype & price of Yammer, it really sucks at real-time comms for teams smaller than 5-6.

I have never had a chance to use it with a bigger team but at that size they have abysmal state management - if you have more than 1 conversation && use more than 1 device = notification_hell. Its just silly how badly they manage this stuff.

Just discovered Hall earlier today and so far, so good! Good job @bretthellman & team.

Nice to see an open dialogue on here.

How do you see this space moving forward? I wonder if there are a lot of 'nice-to-have' and not enough 'must-have' apps, if any at all.

Re:Goodbye Jody on Tuesday January 29, 2013 @04:44AM (#5133132)
I never had a chance to meet Jody, but had connected with him online a couple of times. He couldn't have been more gracious with his time and knowledge.

Great loss to #startupville & the LA Scene.

Re:Migration flows across the world on Tuesday January 29, 2013 @04:41AM (#5133121)
This is exactly what I was looking for over the past week or so! Great work.
Re:30 New OS X Mountain Lion Features in 2 Minutes on Wednesday July 25, 2012 @02:37AM (#4289693)
Been using it on a fully loaded macbook air. Completely anecdotal but I think my boot times are faster. But my encryption seems slower. Safari is wayyy more stable and faster. Messages is integrated better and love Notifications!

Launchpad is way smoother imho.

Re:Ask HN: Anyone making a living from Desktop apps? on Monday July 23, 2012 @08:17AM (#4280557)
I am certain he meant as an indie dev.
Cool! It maybe useful in those times when I miss a day or two of updates.

Would be awesome to have a Mail.app-like link previewer in an overlay.

Re:Show HN: Easel, web design in the browser on Friday June 15, 2012 @03:50AM (#4115496)
Instantly fell in love with this.

Thank you for not trying to dumb down the UX with an 'easy to use' UI. It's clearly an 'easy to learn' UI and I can't wait to get that invite.

No that's interesting! Gots to dig into this little tidbit.
Re:DDG now searches HN for stories and comments on Friday May 18, 2012 @05:24PM (#3994099)
Ok, this is awesome! Now all I need is the Image Gallery search feature and I can delete Google from my bookmarks already.
Re:Quick Course On Effective Website Copywriting on Friday May 18, 2012 @03:04PM (#3993374)
SmashingMag always comes up with some super useful stuff. Instant InstaPaper It.

I am guilty of having thought "I write based on how it sounds to me!".
