News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

If you could have a seperate, physical voice to text converter, it would act as a physical keyboard and type in your password, etc.
The house itself. I would have the house be like S.A.R.A.H in Eureka. Or something similar.
Doors. I would have doors open themselves, either because my phone is near the deer and my keys are nearby, or an implanted RFID chip. Or anything. Just a way for doors to open quickly and silently, to just the right amount. Not too much, not to little (it would depend on the situation).

You can embed SVG into HTML if you wish.

Basically, browsers support SVG.

Re:A better alternative to QR codes on Monday January 28, 2013 @10:54PM (#5132231)
I do not believe that this is a viable alternative to QR codes because it most likely needs a database to store each snap tag. A QR code encodes the data into a 2D image. This means that I can scan a QR code without internet access, and without any downloads other than the scanning app. Snap tags most likely need to call home to get the relevant data.

I got one, but didn't get to check it out yet. Will edit this once I do.

I wouldn't be commenting on this.
Re:Ask HN: Open Source, the future or not? on Saturday November 24, 2012 @11:29PM (#4827259)
I had an argument with someone about this, and we ended up agreeing that not everything can be open sourced (figuratively speaking).

Although the complete outcome was more of a stalemate, the above was implied from our discussions.

gStuff.
Re:Ask HN: Alternatives to iGoogle? on Monday November 05, 2012 @11:10PM (#4747219)
To code one would be awesome. I think I just might do that when I have time.

There is, but it hasn't been created yet.

ConstantCrawl

Try solving riddles, mathematical problems, etc. That might help to get you into the right frame of mind. Don't shoot fish in a barrel, try to think about a problem at first. What is the problem, what are you trying to solve? Now, think of the approaches to solving it. How do you get the answer? Then fool around, and twiddle with things until it works. Try to separate problems into types of problems, each type requiring a certain type of solution, and fit you problem into these lists. Just my two cents.
Re:Ask HN: What do you want to see from a Search Engine? on Thursday September 27, 2012 @11:59PM (#4584244)
no personalization, no ads, better shortcuts (calc, etc), finds what i need, indexes more pages.
It shouldn't be that hard to make one. Poll HTML every N hours and et voila.

Well, that's the cheap way.

How about changing the link to the Kickstarter project itself?

Re:Ask HN: What happens to my legal digital media when I die? on Sunday September 16, 2012 @09:50AM (#4529134)
You could give someone you're password (in your will) and hope that they update the credit card info. Otherwise, the account would most likely be closed due to inactivity.

I do not know any company's policy on accounts that are too old.

Coinbase is still in beta, and a lot of stuff probably doesn't work. Give it some time.

Otherwise I would recommend grabbing your own copy of the bitcoin wallet. Legally you should be fine.

Ask HN: Dream Device

What would be your dream device/devices? This includes laptops, desktops, warehouses full of supercomputers, mobile phones, etc. It may even include software, etc.
