Re:U.S. companies banned from selling components to ZTE on Monday April 16, 2018 @01:24PM (#16850826)
Hopefully the Chinese won't ban their companies from selling to US companies because we'll be screwed... specially because US companies design things to break fast.
fingerprints and DNA are unique.... you can't fake/plant those /s
My router, the Asus RT-N66U can have multiple Wi-Fi guest networks with the default firmware.
Is it possible to know if they target democrats?
Re:The Moon in 4k resolution [video] on Thursday April 12, 2018 @03:30PM (#16824141)
You can expect that the NASA did true 4K without blur and at a good zoom level...
Re:I Downloaded the Information That Facebook Has on Me on Thursday April 12, 2018 @01:58PM (#16823306)
I wish that I could download all the information that Google has on me, but I was stupid and I asked them to hide it from me...
They will force you to update your battery? Don't let their bad policies cloud your judgment....
get a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with snapdragon 625(mido) and flash LineageOS on it (but don't do it on April 1st, and don't install Google's Play services)
Re:The Moon in 4k resolution [video] on Thursday April 12, 2018 @01:18PM (#16822988)
Even if you would film it in 480p, I could re-encode it in 4k... Blu-rays used to do this, not sure if they still do (I don't get physical media anymore)...

In this case, the zoom might matter more then anything else...

Re:Ask HN: Alternatives to Reddit? on Thursday April 12, 2018 @12:42PM (#16822630)
My favorite is https://ns.reddit.com ... and I use the Redirector Firefox addon to redirect all reddit links to this domain ... but of course that probably won't work for much longer
Re:Google is about to launch a Gmail Web Redesign on Wednesday April 11, 2018 @01:37PM (#16813464)
hopefully not as bad as the last one... reverting back would be an upgrade...

Maybe this time they will decide to hide the TO field?

Re:Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook hearing was a sham on Wednesday April 11, 2018 @07:10AM (#16809884)
What's all those lobbyist doing? I thought that they were supposed to advise them in a way that would be beneficial to the citizens?
Re:Don't give away historic details about yourself on Tuesday April 10, 2018 @06:03PM (#16805954)
One problem with this is social engineering... someone could call the company to recover their password and say that they entered garbage for the security question...

I started to enter passphrases instead

Maybe it's because the a large portion of the population started to care and it changed their minds
If you think that, you haven't used a cellphone lately ... You pay full price (actually, probably more then what it should be) and you don't own it...

Tha's good, but an extension is just not the same... it hides the feature from most people.

What would it take for a airplane to be able to pickup someone without stopping?
Re:AV1: A new general-purpose video codec on Monday April 09, 2018 @06:46PM (#16797640)

Re:RSS is undead on Monday April 09, 2018 @05:37PM (#16797223)
If a website offered RSS, it used to be in plain view in the address bar, like this: http://screenshots.oldapps.com/3/large_87_Firefox%201.5.0.12...
Re:RSS is undead on Monday April 09, 2018 @03:08PM (#16795960)
it used to be in plain view all the time (maybe 10 versions ago, I don't remember exactly)
I test my bottled water and it has ~4ppm of stuff in it... my well water has ~400ppm of stuff... I would rather drink the purest one... I could buy a reverse osmosis system to purify my water but I would not be saving money.

The people in my city that have city water often complain about cloudy water, so it's not any better (maybe worst).

Re:RSS is undead on Monday April 09, 2018 @07:35AM (#16792087)
I never stopped using RSS but Firefox has made it a bit more difficult to find out if a site offers RSS...
I'm 36 too but I've issued hundreds of checks... and also issued some indirectly (Bank of America's bill payments issue paper checks to companies when they don't accept electronic payments)
Now we just need a an encrypted DNS provider that isn't NSA's puppet...
