You sound like gitlab is the "right" choice.
Not judging your other points, but if you say Tagsschau is the most unbiased program, then you have read too much Der Spiegel.
Re:A Letter to /r/python on Sunday May 20, 2018 @05:21AM (#17111965)
TL;DR I'm famous and contributed to the Python community, I'm depressed (it's real! Check this references) because people don't like me forcing them to use my tool. these people must be awful.
Re:Server-Side I/O Performance: Node vs. PHP vs. Java vs. Go on Monday December 18, 2017 @10:07AM (#15952095)
Yes, there is a javapackager in java 7 and 8, but with jigsaw that comes with java9, it becomes easier: https://steveperkins.com/using-java-9-modularization-to-ship...

You missed the joke.
Re:Server-Side I/O Performance: Node vs. PHP vs. Java vs. Go on Wednesday December 13, 2017 @01:41PM (#15916345)
Java is compile to bytecode which is then interpreted by a virtual machine, it's not compiled to native code, that's why you cannot distribute Java programs as executable like go.
It's been like this forever, the police have access to so called "information management system" directly to QQ and later Wechat. There is no other way to talk to people online, you are monitored in all channels. They have no choice, anyone that doesn't cooperate is blocked. Also the sense of "Privacy" is very weak among Chinese, they are brain washed enough to believe "what are you afraid of if you have nothing to hide". So yeah people will continue to use Wechat and other social channels in China.
Re:Go 1.10 Beta 1 is released on Friday December 08, 2017 @04:14AM (#15877599)
Yeah, good luck getting generics.
Yes, it's very impressive, and the purpose of the whole post IMO is part of the marketing (call me evil). Also if he didn't quit his job, he probably wouldn't be able to get this far within a year.
Re:Show HN: Erlang REST framework on Wednesday November 15, 2017 @04:43AM (#15702620)
For network applications, yes. Web? no.

It actually shares a lot of the usecase with golang, I would say, if the program can be distributed as binary, there would probably no golang.

Which is not so easy to get from what I heard of.
Re:Farewell, Solaris on Wednesday August 30, 2017 @07:18AM (#15131176)
I don't quite get it, why do people shit on systemd on every chance?
Re:React-material-ui with a pure Java stack on Wednesday August 30, 2017 @07:01AM (#15131120)
There is no where they mentioned "replace nashorn", the main feature of nashorn is to interoperate with Java, V8 cannot do that. If you follow the development of Nashorn, they are working on ES6 features right now.

Also replace nashorn with V8 simply is a false statement, V8 is of it's own project established before Nashorn, and it doesn't even belong to Oracle, how can one replace a new project with an old one?

Re:React-material-ui with a pure Java stack on Tuesday August 29, 2017 @01:58PM (#15126230)
What? Where did they say that in that talk? They simply showed a way to execute native code with V8, so it's easier to run node on nashorn. Stop spreading misinformation.

Entry level app at best, hackers? Unlikely.
Re:A Preview of C# 8 [video] on Friday August 25, 2017 @02:08PM (#15100767)
Come on, default method in interface is a Java 8 feature, what's the coolness of C#is there?
Re:Go 1.9 is released on Friday August 25, 2017 @04:53AM (#15097077)
A concurrent map in my understanding, is a map that can be accessed concurrently without explicit synchronization, not each coroutine has a piece of it. Check java ConcurrentHashMap.
Re:Let's Remove the Global Interpreter Lock on Monday August 14, 2017 @03:08PM (#15011642)
It's not going to happen, you not only have to fix all the legacy code, but also fix the developers.
Re:A Review of Perl 6 on Monday August 14, 2017 @07:18AM (#15007879)
Did you compare to python2 or python3, cause python3 is in the same league as perl6.
Re:Toward Go 2 on Friday July 14, 2017 @04:09AM (#14768325)
Regarding the lacking of generics problem, is there a way to get around it, there are always plenty of tools doing that, if the IDE can patch the syntax and support certain kind of prigma to generate the template code, then the problem is almost solved, not sure if it'll cover all cases like Java does though.
Jigsaw is not maven, nor gradle, the versioning problems should be solved by those tools. I'm getting sick of the multiple version dependency problem being brought up over and over again. That's one of the reason why OSGI is not widely adopted. You should watch some of the talks delivered by the jigsaw team.
Re:D Language accepted for inclusion in GCC on Wednesday June 21, 2017 @03:58PM (#14607336)
Call me wrong if I misunderstood, but isn't reference counting also kind of GC?
Re:How is Ruby different in Japan? on Monday June 19, 2017 @01:16AM (#14584744)
It can not win when there are only three people working on it part timely. Check the new feature list of Python release every few months.

VSCode is NOT VS, dude.

As a linux user, I tried:

1) Visual studio only works on windows 2) It runs on mono 3) I don't like .exe and .dll stuff

Re:FindBugs project in its current form is dead on Tuesday November 08, 2016 @11:40AM (#12901649)
This is also the problem for other projects, the leaders' unwilling to giveup their position even they are inactive for a very long time and just hoping someone could help rescuing the dead horse.

Re:Ask HN: Who is firing? on Tuesday November 08, 2016 @05:41AM (#12899142)
Well, giving that the GBP against EUR rate is like 1:1.1 at the moment, even if you have 70k anual salary Berlin, it's much less than who paid 70K in Berin, considering the living cost. And 70K is very reasonable now with Senior title, not to mention manage positions.
Re:Ask HN: Who is firing? on Wednesday November 02, 2016 @09:06AM (#12854243)
Chinese developer working in a Berlin startup here. I agree the Berlin startups do hire a lot of foreingers (there is a report stating that 49% of employees are foreigners), and it drives the salary down, but I can say my salary is the same level as others developers, as developers has such a huge demand here that you can change jobs freely, unlike American H1B visa.

Also because the EU bluecard has a salary requirement, so they usually pays you the lower limit at least in order to get you here. That's the situation of my Mexican friend, he changed job as soon as he worked in the company for a year and get better paid.
