Wouldn't idealism be believing you can do nothing and everything will be absolutely fine?
I'll take unfalsifiable statements for $300, Alex.
Re:Tell HN: I'm going on strike this November on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:34AM (#50273292)
So you honestly think one of the largest and most powerful AI-enabled corporations on planet earth is being stopped from firing these people because of a technicality or two on the books? Why hasn't it happened already?

This meme again? Corporations are not capable of anything, but corporations are made of people, and people can care.
Re:What Capital Never Told You About Rent on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @11:11AM (#49802645)
Economies are naturally deflationary (assuming a fixed money supply); services become more efficient, making capital more productive. This happens more or less automatically within competitive markets. So those capitalists do become arbitrarily rich, limited only by institutional factors (tax, labor bargaining, antitrust enforcement). By restricting access to capital markets you're siloing these gains off into their own pool.
Re:The End of Programming on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @05:22AM (#49446101)
The time has long passed since the “inevitable” things should have come into existence, for example universal basic housing. What happened instead of the advent of it is something to behold: somehow instead of supply being provisioned in response to demand, we simply changed the excess demand into an externality. Now there’s been a lot of “rage” about this, but it hasn’t been effectual. We still have plenty of homelessness right now and no particular mechanism to control it. We may not be ready for this change, but that doesn’t mean we will accept the change instead of simply pretending the problem never existed and should never exist, if everyone just behaved right.
Cloudflare is essentially MITM as a service. What else would someone expect?
Does anyone know about the time horizons for executive stock compensation at BigTech? Something has to explain the lack of long-term strategy.

Over the years I've proven myself adventurous and willing to build pretty much anything. I joined a YC startup out of college and also founded and ran a mid-size video game remake project for over ten years. A self-starter, I am excited to find skilled business partners and create lasting value.

Technologically, I am into servers, frontend, and low-level code. My background spans Go, C, TypeScript/JavaScript (incl. React, Drizzle, Hono, NextJS), Rust, PHP, NixOS / Linux, and recently exploring AI idioms such as Vercel Gateway, LLM-as-a-judge, and OpenAI APIs.

Re:Let's Make the Worst Htmx on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @03:26PM (#49173676)
No it's not. HTMX is a backend tech; it hinges on moving your presentation logic from the frontend into the backend, hence the whole hype about it supposedly obviating React.
Re:Let's Make the Worst Htmx on Sunday August 02, 2026 @06:21AM (#49143019)
- Why would you pick $backend technology?

- Because someone told me frontend was dead.

Re:Let's Make the Worst Htmx on Sunday August 02, 2026 @03:21AM (#49141951)
Probably because the news of frontend's death has been overstated.
Re:AI Tokenmaxxing and Hypomania on Thursday June 18, 2026 @07:06AM (#48583617)
The M2 money supply has increased by roughly 48% since 2020. There are probably social consequences to this (as it would be strange if there weren't). Perhaps we are feeling the need to try every possible idea to see if that is the thing that wins the money (which is new, and does not obey the old rules).

Full-stack software developer with 10 years of experience in both enterprise and startups (some YCombinator startups).

In keeping with the trends, I have recently proven ability to embrace AI-driven development through production of a desktop app with a large surface area (link in resume) for which I used primarily Claude Code. The app targets 12 distinct binaries, so I have become opinionated on CI practices as well.

My passion lies in solving customer pain through targeted effort and thinking through a business lens. Seeking a company with a similar user focus and culture slanted toward building value over making noise.

Yes but that representation can be over-applied and misleading. For example you can roughly estimate the price of the entire earth. What does that number mean though? Well, nothing, really.
Re:Building for the Future on Friday May 08, 2026 @10:52PM (#48071337)
Who do you think is publishing anti-corporation “propaganda”?
Re:Building for the Future on Friday May 08, 2026 @12:58PM (#48065781)
Didn’t you just say your landscaper gets fired every year? That would mean they’re not “truly skilled.” So why hire them in the first place if they’re not skilled?

Originally you were assigning zero significance to the act of being fired, now you’re backtracking saying it implies something about value.

Re:Building for the Future on Friday May 08, 2026 @11:05AM (#48064250)
Your snow plower and landscaper don't get judged for having 5+ different customers in 5 years. They don't show up in ATSes as job hoppers.
Re:Programming Still Sucks on Friday May 08, 2026 @04:13AM (#48060180)
That’s actually something I agree with; I was making that statement as a challenge to the parent comment because it seems to be what they believe.

Obviously fields like oncology and genetics are going to have major disruptions. What sort of event would trigger someone needing to redo their entire 7+ years of medical schooling?
Re:Programming Still Sucks on Thursday May 07, 2026 @05:29AM (#48047299)
Doctors have to undergo minor professional development refreshers — not replace their entire education. There is a reason we educate early in life; it's hard to retrain the old (and expensive or even approaching impossible).
Re:Programming Still Sucks on Thursday May 07, 2026 @03:41AM (#48046572)
Most of modern society is new in history; what is that supposed to say? If you are making the point that it's unproven and fragile, that would be a good point and actually one that supports "woe is me" because all of it could disappear overnight considering the fragility.
Re:Programming Still Sucks on Thursday May 07, 2026 @02:26AM (#48046108)
Society doesn't owe anybody anything. So who's to say when you find something else to do, it will pay enough to live?

Savvy ex-YC startup Software Engineer, great at taking a project from 0 to 1 and 1 to 10. My background was initially in React and the frontend world, but I've since transitioned to being a more Go/backend-heavy developer working on high-throughput systems. Clocking in at 9 years of experience, I have worked the full gamut, from early stage startups to Fortune 500 companies — and would love to join a team focused on building a great product for the user. You might want to hire me if you have a need for someone who has both business/finance intuition and also software skills.

That would not run counter to the popular (whether true or not) idea that by using functional programming languages you filter for a higher quality labor pool / applicant pool.
