As we saw after the hero Zelenskyy took down Yandex data centers, user count seems to be vaporware in many cases.
Re:NYC's "Click to Cancel" rule is now in effect on Sunday October 11, 2026 @05:31PM (#50048014)
Fines to the non-compliant businesses and forcing them to refund are two major ways he will enforce this.
Re:NYC's "Click to Cancel" rule is now in effect on Sunday October 11, 2026 @05:27PM (#50047985)
This is a very bad thing and very, very scary. Very anti-capitalist. My KPIs that go into my annual review are going to be thrashed, and without the raise I was expecting, I am unlikely to be able to continue to afford my second family. This is literally going to take food out of their mouths. I do not deserve this.
Re:Triple-A Minesweeper on Saturday October 10, 2026 @08:15AM (#50032158)
This is just stellar. My favorite HN submission this year. Excellent.

Yes broad consensus had developed in the ten minutes between announcement and you asking if consensus had developed, and I'm excited to report that it consensed in the affirmative -- it IS Space Bunny Alpha!
Re:Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity on Thursday September 24, 2026 @03:55PM (#49836015)
Near as I can parse it, as a very, very anti-woo person, is as follows:

In a healthy individual with a balanced diet and no deficiencies, there are essentially zero supplements that do anything whatsoever to a measurable degree. Essentially the entire supplement aisle at Whole Foods or whatever is completely woo and useless, and any advertisements are someone trying to make money from you, or some mindless viral craze with no evidence. The exception to this general rule is omega 3s (fish oil is great for this, algae oil is even better given potential heavy metals in fish), protein supplementation if you're weightlifting, and creatine. GLP-1s are a wonder drug that are great if you are not a healthy individual and wish to be.

I am not an SME and I oneshotted this in just 60 seconds by Googleing it.

The great thing is that you did not have to be that guy or even spend time making this comment unless you really wanted to. It wasn't necessary.
Re:The AI job market in 2026 on Monday September 14, 2026 @11:26AM (#49698582)
I have multiple Senior AI Engineer roles posted (really, senior / staff SWE who has reps and sets using AI for development, perhaps working with AI infra) right now. Right now it's a lot of getting Claude working well, model routing working well, and getting us off of commercial LLMs. Trying desperately to hire, but get a lot of "AI-pilled" non-developers in the same way I would open SWE roles ten years ago and get constant "Software Bootcamp" grads. These roles exist, in my anecdotal experience of having multiple of these roles open on my team lol. Perhaps this is just 1/100 ads, or 1/1000.

This is an ad. Flagged.
Re:Stwipe Acquires OpenWouter on Thursday August 20, 2026 @10:39AM (#49375259)
{ "ok": false, "model": "wouter-1", "wouter": "Nee.", "reason": "Wouter is on holiday. He told you about this in March.", "wouter_status": "on_holiday", "tokens_read": 0 }

This is just fantastic.

This should not have happened. But I have a hard time finding any sympathy for cryptocurrency folks. The quote from the article:

"I lost my retirement fund in a hack/Scam when I switched my Ledger over to my new computer and by accident downloaded a malicious ledger app from the Apple store. All my BTC gone in an instant."

Leaves me really shaking my head. If someone has the knowledge to even buy bitcoin or cryptocurrency, I imagine they have enough knowledge to know how utterly crime-ridden and risky of a speculation it is. It's like if someone decides to put their retirement fund into buying bulk illegal drugs and then selling them at a massive markup. Pretty risky, potential high upside, but given they assessed and then accepted the risk, hard to feel bad when they get robbed of all their drugs and lose their retirement funds.

I know, but given the subject of the OP it was an irrelevant garbage comment from a jilted user trying to smear the company. It deserves an equally obtuse response.
No it's design files. Like CAD stuff.
Re:Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (April 2026) on Thursday April 02, 2026 @09:23AM (#47614162)
Same. I found this comment in exactly the same way, and find it equally nauseating.

Creating powerpoints. Presenting the powerpoints to others in synchronous meetings.
Re:I use excalidraw to manage my diagrams for my blog on Monday March 30, 2026 @09:16AM (#47573911)
Love Excalidraw. Used it for decades now, but reach for more powerful tools pretty often as I hit its limits. I'm not asking for the world, but some basics like being able to bold or italicize text would help out a lot.
Re:The Cognitive Dark Forest on Sunday March 29, 2026 @08:58PM (#47569215)
I think the book specifically and explicitly covered the "dark forest doesn't apply when species are near one another" angle.
Re:DARPA's new X-76 on Monday March 09, 2026 @04:26PM (#47314967)
Or, at least, my take on GPT. :) I promise I am a human.
Re:DARPA's new X-76 on Monday March 09, 2026 @03:15PM (#47313983)
It's probably good signal at least, if not a bit of a harsh thing to say that I don't mean in a bad way, that your writing was bland or mediocre since LLMs are basically regression to the mean.
This incident is creepy enough that I would also not agree to a give a random stranger a ride home, absent any additional context or mitigations. Maybe to avoid waking up in an ice bath with my liver gone. But, to not give a ride because of some perceived idea that they would claim you assaulted them or something is a bit "this person should go touch some grass" or whatever.
Re:DARPA's new X-76 on Monday March 09, 2026 @01:58PM (#47312760)
I think I'd rather have them working on airplane tech rather than writing airplane tech press releases. With this approach, it's not just a tactical thing; it's relieving the burden of wordsmithing from technical people.
Re:Microscopes Can See Video on a LaserDisc on Monday March 09, 2026 @10:01AM (#47309187)
Ugh, I'm pretty sure it's Big CED deceptively here to muddy the waters and obfuscate superior LaserDisc Technology. Perhaps flag the post so the moderators can see it and make sure we root Big CED out of these forums and out of our lives for good.
Because the hoards of people who can't find the ` or | or $ on their keyboard outnumber competent people 100:1. I had this exact experience too, so frustrating. Moved to a strictly referral model where I pay my SWEs $10k if a candidate they refer gets hired.
Re:OpenAI – How to delete your account on Saturday February 28, 2026 @09:48AM (#47195974)
This is why I haven't used OpenAI since early 2023-ish, and when I did I signed up with a masked email (though notably I'm sure they can tie my chats to me via my credit card :) ). afaict Sam Altman is essentially a sociopath, like lots of the "ruling elite" these days. And while I still use Gemini and Claude extensively and recognize some of the irony there, I view not using OpenAI as harm reduction to myself.
Very cool, welcome aboard!
Sure, but you created your account 14 years ago and have lost of posts. The person to whom I'm replying created their account 0 minutes before posting the comment to which I am replying. Not really apples to apples.
Did you make this account to post this comment?
Re:Americans are destroying Flock surveillance cameras on Monday February 23, 2026 @04:29PM (#47129132)
If shame were a motivator for this administration or the current grifter class, neither of these things would exist to the current Armageddon-level they currently do. That is to say, completely agree with your take here. There are plenty of government-entity examples of this, but my favorite I've seen recently was a video montage of Elon saying annually, like clockwork, that sully autonomous driving would be here in 2-3 years for the last 12 years or so. If these people had shame, he wouldn't be doing that, as an example.
