There is something very humorous about seeing these plugged into a hub that has each port labeled 10 Gig.
McMaster is a truly amazing company. Their prices are higher than a local hardware store but on par with other industrial suppliers. What makes McMaster amazing is the breadth of product and speed of delivery. In San Diego if I place an order for network patch cables, toilet valves, asphalt paint, and a hydraulic pump by 11am I will have it by end of business day. The site workflow is also great. Filtering is quick and easy even if you don’t know the name of what you are looking for. You can call them 24/7 and get a human that responds. When I call I don’t give them my name or shipping address. Part numbers, quantity, and PO# and your done. It’s a 45 second phone call. I place probably 3-5 orders a day on the site and I am still blown away every single time.
Re:Project-FiFo cloud orchestration adds FreeBSD support on Monday October 09, 2017 @07:08PM (#15438162)
0.9.3 Jails support has no foreseeable changes going forward as far as upgradability. 0.9.2 was Alpha support for BSD to see if there was any interest, once it was determined that there was interest we started looking at what it would take to have a stable implementation. One of the things we had to do was make a version of vmadm for FreeBSD which took a different approach than iocage (what we used in 0.9.2).

We are from a SmartOS background so of course we are biased to SmartOS, but there are software packages that work better on BSD, and it does have some interesting potential with wider hardware support.

Freebsd vmadm has jails, and lx jail support right now. We are looking at adding bhyve. It should not be a large task as we took a jail in a jail approach in order to have vnet support but still lock down in inner jail. This made adding lx jails a minimal task, and I expect bhyve to be no different.

Thanks for the compliments! We love FiFo and hope you do too!

Re:Problems with Android Studio on Thursday February 23, 2017 @01:47PM (#13716533)
Can't agree more. The problem might not be Android studio, it might be the state of development and needing to understand a dozen tools before you can even click "run", but either way you could spend all year teaching the students how to use the tool and still never make anything. Ironically FRC tooling is easier to use than FTC. We ending up using the browser based blocky tools and it has been great. Students don't need anything installed on their computers and can just start building.
Re:DalmatinerDB: A fast, distributed metric store on Tuesday March 22, 2016 @01:13AM (#11334548)
Another exciting and related project is Tachyon, which allows for rapid collection and sending of metrics to Dalmatiner.

Re:GPL Violations Related to Combining ZFS and Linux on Friday February 26, 2016 @01:23AM (#11180087)
As an addition to the above, clearly ZFS is better than the common alternative: raid cards running some unknown firmware (that is most definitely open).
Re:GPL Violations Related to Combining ZFS and Linux on Friday February 26, 2016 @01:22AM (#11180086)
Right. So hard? Its a lot of work that is unplesant and nobody wants to do, I think that qualifies as "hard". I do agree its impractical, but it seems that for something as important as a function, working file system (and don't suggest that butterface fs is a production ready alternative) that somebody would put in the work to make it happen. After all the file system is everything, if you can't safely store your data, whats the point?

Um... If they really cared about making a quality product they would fix their existing problems, including their (apparently) poor choice of a license. Just because it is hard doesn't mean their shouldn't fix it.
