Mass market users don't seem to prioritize these kind of values when making software decisions.

Could you give an example something Amazon would have a challenge doing due to its scale?

Because someone needs to say it: We should all be highly skeptical of a single model's results.
Re:The Supreme Court doesn't understand software on Friday June 20, 2014 @07:15PM (#7923432)
I hadn't thought about TBL that way before. Do you have other examples to help make that point? I'm curious...
I like the idea. It could shake up the whole lurker pool of users or fail miserably. Wouldn't it be interesting to have a community of users that are 100% engaged?
You don't think they're building things that matter? have you seen their app install ad network?
What did you always suspect was the core flaw?
Re:Our Skulls Didn’t Evolve to be Punched on Thursday June 12, 2014 @05:41PM (#7886133)
I worked at an oral surgeons office for a few years. Everytime we performed jaw surgery on someone who was in a fight, 9/10 times they also had a broken hand.

The hand wasn't designed for punching either.

Is anybody else bothered by the amount of news this is causing?

Thank republicans who block infrastructure spending every chance they get.
What's wrong with BitTorrent Sync? The fact that it's a company?

Re:Engineering All Hands Support on Thursday April 24, 2014 @05:50PM (#7643291)
We do all hands support at Aarki for our rich media product. We have the support tab located inside the dashboard of our product.

It's really helped out product team discover pain points of customers and find usability issues.

With only one person on support, that person tends to filter information to the team. This is a great working strategy.

Re:Apple Rejecting Apps For Not Showing Ads on Monday February 03, 2014 @05:22PM (#7173944)
Apple wants to create a monopoly for advertising across the entire Apple product ecosystem. If they're the only company with install attribution across apps and devices, they can serve (re)targeted advertising to you on the Apple TV, your iPad, your iPhone, and Safari, all through the cross-platform iAD.
Re:Apple Rejecting Apps For Not Showing Ads on Monday February 03, 2014 @05:19PM (#7173926)
Agreed - app advertisers are playing a performance marketing game with their install ads. This change is going to make user acquisition more tedious in several ways: - some networks will become straight CPC, which will be a pain in the ass to arbitrage to a CPI - there will be a lot of campaign monitoring required - other methods of install attribution simply aren't as reliable. This will affect the eCPMs of in-app advertising that consisted of app-install demand.
Re:Apple Rejecting Apps For Not Showing Ads on Monday February 03, 2014 @05:13PM (#7173896)
Whats wrong with using the highly reliable IDFA for install attribution? 1) Allows the advertiser to know exactly which publisher provided the install, thus allowing for fair billing. 2) Allows advertisers to study users on a app-level to see which sources provide the high quality users. 3) Ultimately helps ad networks target more relevant ads to users, providing a better user experience and higher eCPMs for publishers.

You won't see any ad units that you don't like disappear - the transaction point for the advertiser will just be the click rather than the install.

This is only going to push the industry away from the heavily favored CPI pricing to CPC pricing.

Re:Workplace Equality Is Good for Business on Monday November 04, 2013 @01:08AM (#6667125)
It took the government to intervene into a very long running and prosperous "free market" to bring an end to discrimination, and nobody was making a economic case for it.

Re:iOS 7's Design is Confused on Monday June 10, 2013 @11:12PM (#5859402)
What's confusing about crowded speech bubbles?
Everybody who matters can put that kind of money up. Remember, the more expensive it gets, the more the ad space is worth for publishers and the more they can earn. As advertising gets more expensive, publishers earn more and can ultimately do more.
Disqus is worth way more than $40 million. It's going to become one of the largest ad networks on the web with its insane publisher base.
THere is no reason why the first screen of the iphone on your home page should show the Login screen. Its not relevant to the product, and everyone who wants to use it will understand that you have a log in. Remove it!

Let's not pretend bitcoin is based on "deep computer science" - it's based on fundamental macroeconomics and our understanding of how currency works.
