Nice, but why are the listed repositories in a code block and not clickable?

Those are their home pages. The home page just changes depending on whether you're logged in.
Re:Simple Helper to Extract Values from a String on Thursday October 04, 2012 @05:31AM (#4611542)
A neat idea, but I'm against hiding the underlying regular expressions from a user. They're such a powerful tool, anyone using them for matching or extraction should read up on them. That said, for simple use this is cool and probably something that would appeal to beginners.

Re:The iOS 6 disaster: Apple bit off way more than it could chew on Friday September 21, 2012 @11:39AM (#4554176)
This is a really terrible article. "iOS 6 is a disaster, but it's not just maps.. it's also maps and maps and maps". Seriously? The contents of this article constitutes a "disaster"?
Re:OS X Mountain Lion available on the Mac App Store on Wednesday July 25, 2012 @05:47PM (#4293258)
Odd. Tried that too, got an access denied message. I see others are having issues too https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4136828?tstart=0 can't see to get past this.
Re:OS X Mountain Lion available on the Mac App Store on Wednesday July 25, 2012 @05:30PM (#4293177)
Weird, that version isn't displaying for me. This is all I get: http://cl.ly/image/411o3o252t3E and none of those versions work on Mountain Lion :(
Re:OS X Mountain Lion available on the Mac App Store on Wednesday July 25, 2012 @12:38PM (#4291719)
Looks like I've lost all the command line tools. Trying to install them via Xcode 4.4 results in telling me I don't have the appropriate permissions to download them (I have an Apple Developer account but I'm not signed up to any programs).

This of course breaks homebrew installs (I found the issue when trying to run an application that uses image magick).

Anyone else having this issue?

Re:Google+ gets a redesign on Wednesday April 11, 2012 @11:18AM (#3827914)
I think the new UI. One thing I have noticed, though, is that my 'stream' is displaying posts from all sorts of people I have no idea about, not just people in my circles. A little confused with that, the only option I have is to select individual circles.
Re:GitHub for Mac 1.1 on Wednesday November 23, 2011 @05:25PM (#3272040)
Great update, I love the line-by-line committing. One thing that would sell me on this app, though, is having an interface for repo issues. Without that, this is more of a "Git for mac" than a "GitHub for mac", in my opinion.

Keep up the great work guys!

Re:Blogging: The Hacker Way on Saturday November 19, 2011 @11:11PM (#3257250)
Whilst that might be an interesting idea, it would probably drive people away from focusing on great content. "Ooo I want comments and I'm only two blog posts away!"
Re:Grove.io: Hosted, Searchable IRC Chat For Teams on Tuesday November 08, 2011 @04:09PM (#3212818)
Assuming you'll have to create an entirely new Grove account for each bot you want to add, though?
I agree this is an issue, and one I've come across a couple of times. I use 1Password for OS X and iOS. I have the database synced with my Dropbox and backed up locally too. I have two strong passwords that I remember. One is to open up 1Password, and the other is for my personal email address. Now's the time people start yelling at me telling me I should use 1Password for my personal email login too, but that proved, many times, extremely inconvenient.

I use the Chrome and Safari 1Password extensions for 1-click logins, and it's a setup I'm extremely happy with. On the few occasions I've needed to access an account without access to my 1Password, I've reset my password via my personal email address and changed the password when I next have access to 1Password. I'm not going to pretend password managers solve all problems, but they certainly help.

UK also, 13:47, it's downloading
Re:Google+ for iOS is out on Tuesday July 19, 2011 @12:10PM (#2781520)
Interesting. I'm running iOS5 beta3, and when I attempt to hit the Stream, the app dies. Does this happen for anyone else? EDIT: Also when I click on someones profile in the 'cirlces' list.

I can't really give any impressions on the app without these things working, but viewing photos and photo comments feels nice and responsive.

Re:A lesson in timing attacks on Tuesday July 19, 2011 @09:22AM (#2780734)
A nice writeup. I think the title is a little misleading though. The 'programmer' part was telling me that there would be a few more specifics on some of the smaller details. I'm really looking forward to checking out Google+ though. This review, like many, only makes me want to get my hands on it sooner

Re:Hacker News Search on Saturday June 04, 2011 @01:47PM (#2619973)
+1 for this. I use AutoPatchWork so it's not very accessible (I can imagine this the same for those not using AutoPatchWork too, though)
Re:Dropbox Attempts To Kill Open Source Project on Tuesday April 26, 2011 @03:33AM (#2484307)
I can't see that they've done any of this. They've been pretty polite about the whole thing. At least that's what the article says. The fact they mention that their terms give them the right to deny users access to their service at any time doesn't mean they're threatening. It's just a reminder.

They're said the DMCA was a mistake and they hold their hands up to that. Aside from that, I can't see how they've done anything wrong. OK so asking the author to remove it from 3rd party sites is a bit cheeky, but that's all they did.. ask. I would have asked too, the author didn't have to. He clearly didn't want any trouble.

Imo Dropbox should have just fixed then, and sat there and laughed when people tried to use Dropship and it not work. It would have saved 'Dropbox attempts to kill open source project' and may have even caused for 'Dropbox fixes file hashing issue x days after open source project built to exploit it'. That way, both win. But that's just my 2 cents

Re:Pry: A better Ruby REPL on Sunday April 24, 2011 @12:21PM (#2479091)
It's actually built for this purpose. It's not supposed to be anything like ripl is. I'd also recommend using that as a lightweight IRB alternative. But Pry isn't supposed to be that.

Also, Pry is currently weighing in at less than 2 thousand lines. It's not going the way IRB is going, but it is indeed very feature full, and probably will contain stuff you may not use every day. It's also easy to extend, so moving commands out of core and abstracting them into their own external libraries would be simple, would we ever want/need to slim the library.

Re:Pry: A better Ruby REPL on Sunday April 24, 2011 @09:06AM (#2478788)
Link to GitHub repo: https://github.com/banister/pry

People should know Pry is relatively new. We're actively writing code daily to improve it. We have some pretty awesome items on the TODO list, so keep an eye on it!

To answer an FAQ: There's no reason not to replace IRB with Pry, or at least extend IRB with Pry inside of your ~/.irbrc

Re:Tell me why I suck on Wednesday February 23, 2011 @09:37AM (#2254174)
I totally agree. I guess it's limited to the cases where you feel you can help the candidate with further job searching
Re:Tell me why I suck on Wednesday February 23, 2011 @08:22AM (#2253968)
It's not really happening at the moment, I'm a freelance developer now. But after having a discussion with a friend going through the same trouble, I had the question.

I probably didn't ask as much as I should/could have, I possibly asked 5-10% of employers, and when I had either no response or a negative 'you didnt suit our needs', I guess I just gave up. I think it's extremely dependent of the company, and surprisingly the person you're dealing with directly inside the company.

Re:Tell me why I suck on Wednesday February 23, 2011 @08:11AM (#2253936)
A very good point. It's actually the UK, but to be honest.. The same can be said in most countries nowadays
Re:Tell me why I suck on Wednesday February 23, 2011 @08:05AM (#2253915)
I didn't really think of "Oh maybe some companies DO want to give feedback, its just better that they dont, for say perhaps, legal reasons". The sorry part makes total sense though, I've seen that a lot.

I guess there are those kind of people who feel discriminated against what might only be some helpful feedback, it's a shame, because it's one of the most educational means of response I've come across, in my experience.

Thanks for your response
