I was surprised as well that an Adobe employee would make such a revealing comment.

How are LLMs and tokens going to help you retain customers who you've spent the past decade pissing off?

"Sowing dissent among your adversaries is very effective"

Yes it is, and some countries have become very good at doing that

Do you ever wonder how Anthropic or OpenAI can release a new state of the art model and then a few months later there's a Chinese open model that's nearly as good?
They're trying to build a moat with legislation, using fear over 'safety' as an excuse to ban these open models
That's exactly what it looks like to me, I guess it's time to re-evaluate those open models.
Is this a signal that open models are becoming good enough for a lot of people?
Re:Emacs Bedrock 2.0 Released on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @05:51AM (#49608045)
Yes, the vi family of editors is just as valid a choice as emacs (and have arguably been the better choice for longer, it's just that personally I could never get on with modal editing)
Re:Emacs Bedrock 2.0 Released on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @05:32AM (#49607898)
yes, stick with emacs even when the next shiny new editor appears and begins it's inevitable descent into becoming bloated and slow
Re:SteamdDB Joins Nexus Mods on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @07:08PM (#49543837)
Yes they are solid_fuel it just so happens that you agree with it and so you deny it's happening.

Responses like the one you just made carried more weight a couple of years ago but people are just getting tired of this schtick now.

The 'host it somewhere else' like doesn't work as you well know. Since whoever hosts anything that doesn't align exactly with modern progressive ideology is labeled a Nazi, fascist, transphobe etc etc etc and their hosting platforms, payment processors etc are bombarded with complaints.

Again though, people like you solid_fuel are losing power so maybe there is a chance that alternatives can exist.

We don't like having an ideology pushed on us. That is the issue solid_fuel

Best of luck to this project. They seem to be targeting developers who are frustrated with Apple and Microsoft which is probably a large market.

And the opinionated aspect is also a positive since there's often decision paralysis for many people new to Linux.

Re:So, you want to make a game engine (2023) on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @12:42PM (#49086554)
It helps to just write games and then over time an engine will emerge from the common code you carry across projects.

Starting from a checklist of features for a game engine almost always ends in wasted effort

No need to damage the cameras, just place some balloons in front of them.
Re:Is surveillance risk chilling your online speech? on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @12:40AM (#48988114)
"do you find yourself expressing yourself less freely on the internet than you did five years ago?"

No, because five years ago was probably the high point of online speech restriction. A time where people were banned from platforms like Twitter and Facebook for expressing political opinions or stating scientific facts

"coupled with a complete lack of _hard evidence_ to back up their views"

Didn't Casey Muratori write a proof of concept windows terminal to highlight Microsoft's substandard implementation? And Jonathan Blow has spent the past decade+ developing his own programming language and funding the development of a game. Seems like they are backing their views.
