Good job, Danny :)
Re:2014 Thiel Fellows on Thursday June 05, 2014 @01:13PM (#7852917)
You're generalizing and blaming the entire Thiel Fellow community because of one person? If you can somehow justify that, it still doesn't make sense to spam the entire thread with the same link over and over again. Thanks.

Explicit is better than implicit.
Re:Ask HN: How to tell your friend his idea sucks on Saturday May 17, 2014 @10:59PM (#7761988)
I guess OP doesn't want to gain anything, but just wants to help his friend by giving him honest feedback about his work, at the same time doesn't want to put it out in a way that might sound discouraging or rude.

Nice!

Two questions:

1. What stack are you working on?

2. How does the "instant" search thing work?

"Talk is cheap, show me the code" — The true gravity of this quote (by Linus Torvalds) struck me at the crux of my first startup.

By convention, the syntax for showing the HN community something is — "Show HN : Your Title Here".

And this article doesn't qualify for "Show HN". As far as I've observed, Show HN applies for stuff OP has built or a service/tool you've discovered.

That being said, this is an entertaining set of videos, some of which made me smile.

Sublime Text (or Githubs Atom) works for me.
Re:The Problem and Future of Education on Friday March 14, 2014 @02:42PM (#7400904)
Interesting perspective. Don't you think though, that this research will lead to an increase in efficiency and perhaps subsequently a decrease in operational costs of schools? If yes, then why would educators hesitate to implement the results of this research?

So it isn't a joke?

Ask HN: How do you take time off work?

Working on large projects can be hectic. Everybody needs a break once in a while! What do you do during your break? This thought emerged while writing the following article on my blog — http://arsalanbashir.com/blog/reinvent-being

Re:Packt Publishing ebooks free today with DOTDEBOOKFREE promo code on Wednesday February 26, 2014 @04:59AM (#7303951)
Hi, How does this work? I added a few ebooks to my cart and tried to use the promo code, but it still doesn't show any change.

EDIT — Worked like a charm. Thanks much!

Re:Ask HN: How can I improve my note-taking web app? on Sunday February 09, 2014 @06:07AM (#7205147)
How does realtime actually work? Can you shed light on that, please?
This is a dire contrast to most Asian parents I've encountered, who seem to think that medical and engineering are the only fields that are respectable. Everything else is a waste of time.
This is a whole different perspective. May I ask, why?

Re:Ask HN: Cloned side project on Saturday February 01, 2014 @10:25AM (#7161846)
The project was mostly to give back to the community (not to learn or anything, while it has taught me a lot)

Both mine as well as the other one is open source, but I don't know how to go about a merger.

Re:Ask HN: Cloned side project on Saturday February 01, 2014 @10:02AM (#7161794)
Thank you for the answer!

The issue here is that my product is definitely better designed, and can match (perhaps even slightly bypass) the technical capabilities of the rival product!

But It'd be safe to say the following — The "rival" has established a (4-5k people) community around the product, and my better designed version aims to build a larger community of users. I'm not going to be charging, and neither is he.

Ask HN: Cloned side project

I've been working on something, as a side project. But I ran into somebody else who recently released a similar product.Should I continue to work on mine? Or ditch it because it is redundant anyways?

Re:Open for everyone on Tuesday January 28, 2014 @01:18PM (#7138691)
I got "invited" to svbtle a year and a half ago, and I have ever since used and quit it. I hated (and still do) the fact that somebody else had absolute control over what my blog looked like, and what changes I made.

Nothing so intriguing about it, really.

Edit: Also, the sign up page itself has a confusing user interface.

This.

Damn, if I had your email, I'd send you a personal letter of appreciation. This is just that good.
