I'm not on reddit this is hackernews- I am an indie filmmaker and a programmer amongst other things. Are you a bot?
Re:CorridorKey 2.0 on Monday October 26, 2026 @07:44PM (#50252772)
Both and now they are one in the same.
Re:CorridorKey 2.0 on Monday October 26, 2026 @07:42PM (#50252763)
No- but actors are unnecessary puppets- nowadays I don't need actors which is great for me as a director- as an animator you act out all the shots/scenes yourself anyway- and nowadays you can just do the mocap/change your voice etc- human actors are not needed anymore and thats a good thing. The status quo will slowly replace the human actors with ai one's.

Actors have been given this ridiculous unwarranted status in modern times- they are nothing but puppets so who cares what actors think? They are just puppets that play make believe that they don't even make up themselves = redundant.

Re:CorridorKey 2.0 on Monday October 26, 2026 @07:37PM (#50252724)
Haha- yes a filmmaker for 25+ years- had an original self made/produced animated feature film in the Sundance film festival, have made 6 original animated feature films- I've made several green screen heavy projects in the past- they suck for everyone involved except vfx companies/software or plugin companies. I'm still making films- heavily modified game engine cg + mocap- green screen is terrible for everyone and its a good thing its dead.
Re:CorridorKey 2.0 on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:59PM (#50252365)
Indie filmmaker who had an original animated feature film in Sundance featuring lots of green screen in it many years ago- green screen is dead- game engines + pure cg/2d anim are the future of indie film-

Directors hate green screen, actors hate green screen- obsolete visual fx artists larping as storytellers/filmmakers love green screen.

Re:CorridorKey 2.0 on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:54PM (#50252323)
So its for mainstream film studios? Thats tired status quo stuff.
Re:CorridorKey 2.0 on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:41PM (#50252151)
Already obsolete- who keys anymore besides youtube slop peddlers?

Just go full cg or full ai gen.

Photopea has ad's though- Photocraft doesn't- he may of made Photopea "by hand" but it is a direct copy of Photoshop- "AI" copies better and faster than "Ivan Kutskir " and doesn't include ad's- dude was just a temp human thief that needs to sleep and eat (hence the ad's) AI is a far superior thief
I use it everyday- I don't need Photoshop anymore- its faster and does everything I need it to do- the only other "creative" artcraft app I've really tried to use is Filmcraft, the Premiere replacement but I'm still using Davinci Resolve Studio as Filmcraft isn't as far along as Photocraft but Davinci Resolve Studio is slow, bloated, can't customize the UI and barely has an API so I can't wait to dump it
As a human artist/film director/animator/musician etc I view "AI" as just another tool in my toolbox and what a tool it is!

In animation/film production- studios would have a "TD" on hand- a technical director- a programmer on staff to tweak workflows for artists, build new tools etc-

Now my TD chills in VsCode waiting and working for me 24/7 in the form of Claude Code, Kimi Code etc

I can also have my TD embed another TD(Deepseek flash 4.1) into the new tools(making them smarter and more useful) my TD builds for me while I am in active production on the same PC

All of this allows savvy creatives to dream bigger as a single person is capable of anything a "big studio" can do-

So artists need to leverage these new tools and be more ambitious.

Aesthetics are dead- original ideas are it.

Just enabled it- Love Kagi!
Re:It's getting harder to focus every day on Friday July 24, 2026 @12:23PM (#49037908)
It's getting easier to focus every day for me-

Why? I never used any kind of mobile phone or tablet and I use LLM's to automate away the things I don't want to do.

I use a laptop(VOIP for texts and calls), desktop PC, a b6 physical notebook and a sony voice recorder-

B6 notebook(graph) https://www.amazon.com/STALOGY-Editors-notebook-Black-S4104/...

B6 cover with pocket https://www.amazon.com/Raymay-Fujii-CN162B-Notebook-Multi-Co...

Sony voice recorder https://www.amazon.com/Sony-ICDPX370-Digital-Recorder-Built/...

*these pens are zen for drawing and writing https://www.amazon.com/uni-ball-Vision-Needle-Rollerball-Poi...

I take notes/draw constantly as I take the b6 case with me everywhere- I keep the voice recorder in the pocket of the case when I need to dictate an idea, an article, record a song idea or a comedy bit, dictate a blog entry etc-

But all the actual "work" which these days is really just ideas is done on physical paper and a pen or with my speaking voice- no tapping, swiping etc- no notifications or any of that nonsense- so I work outside mostly- in various places- on planes- standing in line- all the places everyone is tapping/swiping onto a screen around me-

It's 10x easier to focus when you are outside and/or in public with a pen and pad in hand and no screens/tech to destroy your attention-

That's a great one!
Re:Why do people hate the tech industry? (2023) on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @08:57AM (#48920151)
The tech industry took essential human things away from regular people and sold it back to them as metered services.

Social skills, friends, short term memory, dating, sex, intelligence etc

Tech intentionally exploits regular people for its own gain, intentionally breaking peoples brains for techs profit.

In short "tech" doesn't care about anything but the "bottom line" its the same as the military industrial complex- people break, people die, genocide happens and we empower it... who cares we're getting rich.

No one sees the faces of the military industrial complex but tech CEO's(the faces of the industry) proudly smile for the camera's and rub their billionaire lifestyles in the publics faces.

In short people hate the "tech industry" because it has taken everything away from everyone while enriching a few- and its all public.

Like others have already said- just disable the memory function- if you are hesitant about doing that- go read the memory file(profiled you) it has made on you.

You have the right to remain silent, the profile your LLM has made about you can and will be used against you in a court of law.

Re:The AirPods Effect on Friday June 19, 2026 @06:35AM (#48597007)
Control group here- Adult from Silicon Valley that has never used a mobile phone/flip phone etc and has never used airpods either of course

My take- phones and social media have made everyone socially retarded and airpods are driving them further off that anti-social/socially retarded cliff

When I still lived in Silicon Valley I'd see people post things on local subreddits like "How do I make friends here?"

The simple answer is don't be a socially retarded dork- trying being a socially flexible and available human and not a socially retarded robot that wants the rest of the world to compromise for you-

In my opinion they have traded para-social relationships(podcasts, youtubers etc) for real social relationships-

They feel more "comfortable" with the para-social ones because they can control everything about it which has made them more uncomfortable with the real world they can't control-

You can't control when people might talk to you- or what they might say- BUT that's the beauty of real life- you might make the best friend or start an amazing relationship from chit-chat about nothing in the most random place-

Lock yourself out of those spaces/places/instances with your phone/airpods and your doomed to a life you "control"- a lonely boring fucking life

BUT hey, at least your "consuming" more "content" generating more profit for big tech instead of having friends- good job!

You probably also are helping out big-pharma consuming more anti depression meds with your self enforced loneliness instead of just talking to other human beings-

Put your phone away, don't wear your airpods and live in real life- or continue with your airpods and your neck cranked down into your phone- you don't need friends anymore, AI will be your friend.

Re:Making Peace with Your Unlived Dreams on Monday June 08, 2026 @04:51AM (#48442846)
Having dreams tethered to physicality if you are not physically gifted(Snowboard champion) and/or dependent on gate kept power structures allowing you in ("famous" film director) are dreams built for disappointment if you don't meet the required pre-requisites-

This is why the realms of art and creativity are great substrates in which to plant the seeds of your dreams in-

IF your dreams are to make/create things nothing can stop you these days except yourself with all the tools and knowledge available now- you can't control the outcome after you've made the thing- but the happiness and joy comes from the excitement of the happy accidents on the journey and the pride of completion of course-

I'm an artist/filmmaker/animator/dev/musician and the best moments of my life are still from creating things that almost no one sees- they get no acclaim- they win no awards- almost no one cares- but that doesn't matter as the joy comes from the creation- I'm happy with the works I create-

If your dream is to write a book, write a song, make a film, make a game, create a piece of software/useful tool, make a painting etc- the skill and budget required for these things is lower than ever-

That is not to say it has been cheapened- especially with "AI" tools-

Idea is always king- always use your original ideas- never "AI" suggestions and the things you make are yours, forever.

Absolutely ZERO of my dreams will be unlived, except the project I won't finish because I will die while it is progress- so I'll die happy anyway doing the work I love (shrug)

TLDR: make realistic dreams that depend on your willpower and creativity not your physical attributes and you will live all your dreams except one.

Re:I learned Unity the wrong way on Sunday April 19, 2026 @07:00PM (#47828475)
Unity dude here, learned alone/self taught-

Being old enough to enjoy reading technical books/articles is a + and knowing the acronym RTFM

I learned about collection types other than array/list from reading this article by the creator of the game Project Zomboid- as he used Stacks for zombie behaviors https://ia600303.us.archive.org/18/items/pdfy-G4Wm9sq1LU298r...

Then I got this book which is a great overview of C# for use in Unity https://csharpplayersguide.com/

Remembering which ones are FIFO and LIFO helps you remember what is what for etc

But yeah- had to read an article and a book- I hated most of the Unity youtube tutorials- enough info/help to get you going but they leave you stranded in the woods without a path out because you were blinding following someone else when you walked in.

Better to read/learn and understand the small bits yourself slowly as they are the breadcrumbs that lead you out.

I love wiggly paint(got it from your itch.io so I know its the real one) Keep up the great work and thank you.
Re:Drones will realize the promise of suicide terrorism on Saturday June 14, 2025 @02:54PM (#44278046)
Something like that- I'm an artist/creative and was working on a (Black mirrorish)story years back about this, thats were the thought comes from- a related ransom system would also be built into it- would create an offshoot of Defi known as DeathFi.
Re:Drones will realize the promise of suicide terrorism on Saturday June 14, 2025 @02:50PM (#44278020)
They've already used prediction markets to bet on peoples death as in the case of Sinwar from Hamas. It seems like all the pieces are there and moving into place- I'm just an artist/creative imagining things though(shrug)
Re:Drones will realize the promise of suicide terrorism on Saturday June 14, 2025 @02:34PM (#44277916)
Re: crypto and this "The collapsing institutional monopoly on violence will yield a renewal of local and personal violence, and a very messy working-out of a hierarchy suited to the new conditions."

If prediction markets come to act as proof of life oracles- which they already have in a few cases- things get very dark very fast for everyone I reckon.

Thank you- I was just curious.
Re:AI is not our future – Procreate on Friday May 30, 2025 @01:57PM (#44138560)
Yes I do think we should be compensated for it, and we are- when we talk of compensation that usually refers to money- I'm referring to other forms of compensation-

I feel compensated on a spiritual level for my work- I do other things for money and my art can stay "pure" in a sense-

It's said that if you "sell your soul" you are unable to ever "buy it back"- so why sell it in the first place? Just so you can try to get "rich" and attempt to buy it back later because you are soulless and miserable? Doesn't make sense to me.

Maybe art is something higher? A higher cause? I was really inspired by the Rudolf Steiner book "The arts and their mission" early in my career- worth looking into if you are in the arts.

Re:AI is not our future – Procreate on Friday May 30, 2025 @10:26AM (#44136559)
For filmmakers- smart phones + cheap video cameras + free video editors + youtube monetization create what from my perspective is human made content slop. So to me slop is slop- it doesn't matter if a machine or a human "made" it. It's all slop and it all sucks haha.

Grifters will always grift- curation is what is important to sort through and ignore the slop- maybe there will be some systems with special fingerprinting algo's to "find" original human made non slop?

Re:AI is not our future – Procreate on Friday May 30, 2025 @10:22AM (#44136519)
I do agree with the original artists work being disregarded but I think that has more to do with the aggregation and the lack of curation that is not motivated by $- as an unknown artist creating original work for 20+ years I'm optimistic about permission-less donation supported AI curators digging up unknown creative works and sharing them with humans.
Re:AI is not our future – Procreate on Friday May 30, 2025 @10:20AM (#44136487)
Sure- as the AI is trained on the work of humans- so if someone had an idea "inspired by ai" its really just saying they were inspired by humans anyway- for me personally I'll never ask an LLM for "ideas" though-
Re:AI is not our future – Procreate on Friday May 30, 2025 @10:17AM (#44136458)
No I don't see it as theft- in that I choose to not be a part of the formal film industry- I don't "monetize" any of my work- I have nothing that can be stolen but my aesthetics- but aesthetics are dead imo- they no longer have value- as an artist my ideas are what is valuable- and no ML/AI etc can "steal" my ideas as I haven't thought of them yet- my art and ideas are an expression of my soul- no machine will ever have a soul so I'm not threatened one bit my Ai etc
Re:AI is not our future – Procreate on Friday May 30, 2025 @10:14AM (#44136429)
Native speakers are the ones doing the re-writing of the lyrics in those languages. The ai tool just converts the say Russian singer voice into different voices.
