Just a joking side note: switch n to t in the URL and you get article for food in Estonian: https://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toit
Re:Atuin Threads: All your agent sessions on every machine on Thursday October 29, 2026 @05:05AM (#50286297)
Was very easy to start using. Loving the experience so far. Falls into right time as well as I'm currently building out my "internal knowledge base" thingie.
That would be a killer move!
Re:Ghostty 1.4.0 on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:28AM (#50269649)
They should train AI for this, God it would help.
Yep. :waves: to ones on similar path.. Switching off from Terminus was hard, but eventually unavoidable. Switched to Jetbrains Mono when Ghostty came out nearly 2 years ago..
Re:Thunderbird for iOS on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:49PM (#50074764)
Already did. Both should be essentially the same, different skins and some rather miner functional differences afaik. Using TB on Android and I agree with critics, like dysfunctional search etc
Re:Show HN: NSL – WSL for Linux on Thursday October 01, 2026 @03:56AM (#49918971)
So I was working with some graphics related stuff and since I think I don't have GPU passthrough, then I could not use it directly this time.
Re:Ask HN: What're You Reading? on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @10:05AM (#49909185)
That's what I got from other reviews as well. But since you poked, I'll pick it up again after I process through this trauma :D
Re:Ask HN: What're You Reading? on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @09:30AM (#49908684)
I DNFed Lin Cixin "The Dark Forest" at 30% ... I really could not get past the shallow characters and boring writing style. Topic was really intriguing and I'm sad not able to grind through it to know what happens, but at the same time.. I was hoping that after same issues on book 1, I could get used to it, but it was just grind...

So I started to reread Brandon Sanderson "Wax and Wayne" series again and was immediately relieved how easy it is to read.

Gladly (Y)

Will try to give it a spin later.

Re:Show HN: NSL – WSL for Linux on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @01:23AM (#49904688)
Exactly opposite, gonna test it out today for a pet project since I can let Claude go haywire inside if it needs to install any deps from systemside. Similar stuff exists, but this seems lightweight enough for experimentation.
Re:A Man Archiving Pirate Radio Station Kool FM on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @11:56AM (#49714505)
Yeah. Relative scarcity of the music really burned it all in and became part of it.
Re:A Man Archiving Pirate Radio Station Kool FM on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @11:30AM (#49714072)
Thank you for sharing this. Touches the heart in two different aspects. Recording radio shows on tapes and listening them with players and shitty earphones before CDs/mp3 players were a thing. Still thankful to my young self for the amount of weird and awesome music.. And then obviously junglist massive. Big up!
Re:This Month in Ladybird – August 2026 on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @12:43AM (#49605670)
Just a small personal touch -- my coworker is constantly pushing me to use Chrome because it "just works", but I'm stubborn as hell. Used Firefox from early 2000s. Oh how I will love to twist his nerve even more once I will switch to Ladybird. Saying this because there has been more harder days to counter these pushes. And to be honest I think we are overthinking about how much this last 3-5 % actually matter for huge crowds.

I understand that your argument still stands in big picture, but in this big world there is plenty of room for Firefox and Ladybird and there is more than enough room to grow. Firefox mostly is being held back with their organization. I'm not convinced that it is technical problem.

But then again, I'm still believing that there will be a year of desktop Linux coming. Maybe even sooner than we expect.

Re:Don't be a meat proxy on Monday August 03, 2026 @03:23AM (#49152325)
I'll try that. I'm constantly telling it to be "brief, plain and on the point" or something similar. Tried caveman, but I think it had it's own issues.

But the jargon heavy very long responses are my main issue with it I guess.

Searched the thread, waited for it to be posted. No pelican on bicycle :(
Re:Orion Browser by Kagi on Monday July 20, 2026 @08:43AM (#48978082)
This. Just cleaned up my t-shirt shelf and need to archive the nice yellow T-shirt they sent to early adopters. Not wearing it.. (Obviously it goes for the services as well). Not happy at all.

My jaw dropped. Very cool. Thanks for sharing.
Re:The lost joy of music piracy on Thursday July 16, 2026 @03:17AM (#48931290)
Closed private trackers are bastions of hope of preserving human culture. Every iteration since oink, they have become better and better and while at one point they will close the current ones, we will persevere. Where else would we find forgotten underground music only few people remember and how specific vinyl sounds. It's the community and love for music.
Re:Curveball on Saturday July 04, 2026 @03:42PM (#48788298)
Oh the lost hours in Neverball..
Re:Response to AI slop is from Robin Williams on Sunday June 28, 2026 @04:31AM (#48705479)
> But Hollywood also eats its own tail. Filmmakers grow up watching films, and they tend to draw from other films, the same way that LLMs just kinda rearrange pieces from ingested text (which is an oversimplification, bear with me).

But this is how culture works I think. It's not the act of copying or rearranging or borrowing but how the material is being processed and what drives the change I think.

Just three words: rule of three.
Re:Switching from Kagi Search to Uruky on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @02:13PM (#48559542)
Giving Uruky a try. Really like the privacy model and that I can avoid giving money to that index with Y letter.
Re:Switching from Kagi Search to Uruky on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @02:10PM (#48559480)
Care to explain what you mean by "shoving AI into...". Uruky is pretty bare-bones and there is no smell of AI anywhere. You talking about Kagi?
Re:Rust (and Slint) on a Jailbroken Kindle on Thursday May 28, 2026 @07:18AM (#48307386)
Would be so nice to use those previous Paperwhites for something like this as well. Instead I just lose them while travelling. Just lost my last 2019/smth edition. 3rd one with such fate..
Re:Hallucinate – Massively Multiplayer Online Rave on Thursday May 28, 2026 @06:43AM (#48307129)
Where is jungle basement or something for those who like their beats broken?
Re:Rubish: A Unix shell written in pure Ruby on Saturday May 23, 2026 @06:42AM (#48246540)
Note that I just elaborated what I thought was being asked. Parantheses - see what switching professionally to Ruby wonderland to Python does to a person! Just in about half a year needed..
Re:Rubish: A Unix shell written in pure Ruby on Saturday May 23, 2026 @06:18AM (#48246444)
ls | grep file.txt vs ls().grep("file.txt")
isn't ~= supported by uv or the discussion is about uv not adding it when package is added by command line rather than editing pyproject file? ~= is standard practice for me, as I always rather edit the file than memorize the commands.
Re:OpenBSD 7.9 on Tuesday May 19, 2026 @10:20AM (#48193664)
I always check their releases to get the song, like in other thread.. last song was 7.3
